Assessment and Planning in Educational technology.pptxKavitha Krishnan
In an education system, it is understood that assessment is only for the students, but on the other hand, the Assessment of teachers is also an important aspect of the education system that ensures teachers are providing high-quality instruction to students. The assessment process can be used to provide feedback and support for professional development, to inform decisions about teacher retention or promotion, or to evaluate teacher effectiveness for accountability purposes.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

It is my privilege to present the Batch of 2012; these students are young, bright and to
put it simply ‘ready’ to take on the world. In keeping with the tradition of the University of
Petroleum & Energy Studies, we aim to develop our students into ‘industry-ready’
professionals that sets them apart from their contemporaries by enabling them to
deliver high performance and results.
The previous year, I am pleased to share, has been an eventful one for UPES. The
events that stand out have been the academic collaboration with IBM for cutting edge B
Tech IT Programs, a first of its kind initiative in the world and the establishment of the
Management Development Centre (MDC) at the UPES Campus. These collaborative
programs reflect the broader spectrum of innovative measures that we undertake on
continuous basis for high academic rigor and excellence in our curriculum. Moreover, we
remain steadfast in our vision to play a pioneering role in providing domain
specialization education and talent to the industry particularly in the high growth Energy
and Core Sectors of the country.
To the recruiters, I welcome all of you to the Placement Program - 2012. I extend my
deep felt appreciation to our past recruiters for their continued support and look forward
to many new ones to join and be part of our placement program.
To the students, these are exciting times that you start your professional journey when
opportunities abound. I am sure you will continue to do us proud and excel in the
career chosen.
Dr P Diwan
Vice Chancellor
11. Born out of a unique vision, UPES was created with the aim of providing domain specific and
industry ready management, engineering & legal professionals, at the graduate, postgraduate
and doctoral levels.
Since its inception in 2003, it has become the preferred destination for students & corporates
in the Energy and Core sectors. More than 3000 students have passed through its hallowed
portals and are today enjoying key roles in their chosen sectors.
The UPES campus is located in the sylvan surroundings of the Pondha valley at the foothills of
the Himalayas in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, and offers an unsurpassed environment conducive
to academic, personal & professional growth.
Moreover, our commitment to supporting innovation and technology to develop sustainable
energy solutions makes us a favoured destination not just for senior research fellows &
scholars, but also for institutional funding from government agencies and corporate partners.
Also, having realised that modern research increasingly straddles multiple disciplines &
locations, we have established strong working relationships with a number of world-renowed
universities and institutes so as to facilitate joint seminars, faculty exchange programmes,
review of PhD theses and mutual exchange of scientific publications.
The ultimate responsibility for governing and managing UPES lies collectively with the Board of
Governors, the Board of Management, the Academic Council and various University officials.
