Man La Mancha Rhetorical Devices
The first song that I will be evaluating will be Man La Mancha. The first thing that I noticed that
my section did really well was the dynamics at measure seventeen. The whole band could work
on is staying in balance with other people because you could pick out certain voices in the
sections. In delsonaya we really could of brought down are volume when the flute solo came in
because she could be barley heard over the band. The bass voices could improve on ninety eight
because when we would come up in the menacing it sounded as if we were slurring the notes and
not making them prominent. the trumpet on the solo at the start was amazing and sounded perfect
and was played musically. This was one of my favorite songs in are concert and I think

Essay On Pathogenesis Of Arthritis
Discussion Over five decades of research, have shown complex pathogenesis of RA. Variable
clinical responses to targeted therapies, such as TNF blockers, T cell costimulation inhibitors,
and B cell depletors, demonstrate that the disease is heterogeneous and probably lacks a single
mechanism that applies to all patients (21). Inhibition of adjuvant induced arthritis (AIA) in rats
is one of the most suitable test procedures to screen anti arthritic agents since it closely resembles
human arthritis (22). The present study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of the use of MPEE
for one and two weeks on ankle diameter, serum levels of RF, pro inflammatory biomarkers (IL 1
ОІ and TNF О±), anti inflammatory cytokines (IL 4 and IL 10),... Show more content on

Moreover, previous study demonstrated that the effect of thymol, a natural monoterpene phenol
primarily found in mandarin peel, on anti inflammation not only comes from the expression of
inflammatory cytokines but also from the iNOS and COX 2 pathway. The promising anti
inflammatory effect of thymol may involve in the inhibition of NF ОєB and MAPK signaling
pathways (26). TNF О± being a key inflammatory mediator triggers an increase in synovial
proliferation and also production of other secondary mediators. TNF О± also induces osteoclast
differentiation. Overproduction of TNF О± in affected joint causes a cascade of secondary
mediators involved in the recruitment of inflammatory cells which leads to joint destruction (27).
The actions of IL 1ОІ include induction of knee joint inflammation, cartilage damage and bone
resorption (28). Cyclooxygenase (COX) is strongly induced by IL 1ОІ and plays an important role
in the pathophysiology of rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, down regulation of pro inflammatory
cytokines and NF ОєB may be an appropriate therapeutic strategy for rheumatoid arthritis (29). The
current study revealed increased serum levels of both IL 1ОІ and TNF О± in the RA control
groups. These results run parallel to several reports showed that progression of RA is accelerated
by pro inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. TNF О± and IL 1ОІ are reported to be associated
with the progression of RA (30). Also, it was observed significantly high levels of IL 1ОІ

Pablo Neruda Metaphors
Poems are a way for people to express their feelings in an art form that provides enough literary
clues and expressive qualities to help a reader understand what is being expressed. Pablo Neruda
became a legendary poet in his lifetime from 1904 to 1973 in Chile. He never failed to leave a
part of himself in each of his poems for the reader to either identify with or interpret, which is most
evident in his use of metaphor. His metaphors can be labelled as being open , for they provide
literal comparisons between two completely unrelated ideas, which leave room for personal
interpretation. Because of the confusion evident in those connections, the reader is immersed into
the metaphor and its resulting tone, mood, and connotative meanings. Pablo... Show more content

When Neruda comes to a conclusion about his feelings, speaking to his loved one, he tells her
that if she feels compelled every day to love him with implacable sweetness,/ if each day a
flower/ climbs up to your lips to seek me,/ ah my love, ah my own,/ in me all that fire is repeated,
/ in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,/ my love feeds on your love, beloved (Lines 38 44).
As the poem concludes in the sixth line, the reader is softly coasted to the end of the poem.
Neruda knows he may have to part from his lover one day, but he ensures that she understands
that as long as she continues to love him without his presence, he will feel her commitment and
continue to love her back. He describes her devotion using the description of a flower climbing
up to her lips to seek him. The flower is part of an open metaphor, since the meaning of the
statement can differ despite the flower being a clear symbol of love. Either the flower climbing
to her lips is literal, as she may kiss a flower in memory of Neruda when he is not around, or it
can be a representation of relentless, passionate love. After using the metaphor of a flower, the line

Reflection On Solidarity Versus Charity
After having been in your domestic/ national/international field placement, what is your
perspective on solidarity versus charity? Provide examples from your experience. When I think
of solidarity and charity, they both appear very similar and there is no black and white answer.
However, when I think of charity, I always think of giving to those who have less than you. It is
this idea that you may have authority or higher power over someone less fortunate. When
volunteering for a charity, there is this idea that anything a volunteer does will be helpful. An
example of charity to me, would be donating cloths to a shelter. From experience, interning at a
shelter, people would always donate clothes. As this was necessary and helpful, at one point we
were unable to accept any more clothing donations because we had too much. I think when people
donate clothes, they automatically think they are contributing to the charity, following the idea that
by doing that they helped the agency out.
Solidarity on the other hand is a more personal approach to helping others. To me solidarity is
when an individual truly works with others to identify what it is that they need or want, not just
assuming that whichever service they provide will be helpful. I believe that solidarity takes more
of an equality and empowering approach, which leads to working more collaboratively with
individuals. I think an example of solidarity for me, would be my last year s internship at the
domestic violence

Personal Narrative-Plowing Water
I was at the point of suffocation. The massive rubber soles overpowered my own feet, the
heavily insulated vest pressed my sides together, and I could have sworn it clenched me tighter
and tighter by the second. The mask compressed against my face, concealing my eyes and nose
from the air I desperately longed for. It forced me to breathe out of a compact tube, exposing the
claustrophobia I did not know I had. But before I even had time to think, I went plunging under.
The tepid salt water instantly enveloped me, and within seconds I floated back to the top. I was
mystified by what may be lurking beneath my legs, which were plowing back and forth to keep
me up straight. I immediately began to disregard the heavy gear I modeled so gauchely,... Show

was able to calm down after a few minutes and remained on the sunny, sandy beach, content with

Acute Respiratory Syndrome Research Paper
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome: A Lucky Evolution? Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
(SARS) was a viral disease that quickly spread China and the world in 2003 to 2004. The corona
virus targeted the respiratory system and killed 10% of people who caught it. By examining
articles that relate to this disease, I have come to the conclusion that SARS was just a One Hit
Wonder that was the result of a lucky evolution because of how and when it happened. The virus
only lasted for 2 years, evolved from bats, and is not likely to happen again in the same way. First
of all, SARS was a lucky evolution because it only lasted for about a year. The first case of SARS
was documented on November 16, 2002 and there have been no known cases since 2004.
According to the EDU, a total of 8,098 people worldwide became sick ... Of these, 774 died. The
virus disappeared after only about 2 years, and only a 10% fatality rate. If the virus was not a

According to Berkeley University, the ancestor of [SARS was] a bat virus ... SARS is actually
divided into 8 strains, with the 3rd and 4th strains, called SARS 3 and 4, infecting humans. Of
the 6 other strains, 5 of them are carried by bats. Berkley also says, Chinese horseshoe bats . .
.are the [common] carriers of the SARS virus The disease came to humans by way of live animal
markets in China, where the bats were kept in cages and handled by many people. All it took was
one of the two human infecting strains to jump from the bats to one of the handlers, and the disease
was set to infect all whom it came in contact with. Even though bats are a common source of
infection, there are several reasons why the infections rarely become epidemic. The ancestors of the
SARS virus had evolved to infect bats, and when one strain infected humans, it wasn t prepared to

Christianity Reward and Paul
Paul c.5 c.67
Paul was an important follower of Jesus and made a big impact on the growth of Christianity.
Paul s life span was 3 67 AD. Paul traveled 10,000 miles around Rome to teach Christianity. A
couple of the places he visited were Ephesus, Philippi, Corinth and Athens. Paul taught to the Jews
and Gentiles. The story of Paul is that his name was once Saul. Saul was traveling to Damascus
and a bright light from heaven shone on him. Saul was before hand persecuting Christians for their
faith. The bright light was God/Jesus. He asked Saul to why he was persecuting him. Saul realized
what he was doing was wrong. He got baptized, changed his name to Paul and started preaching
about Jesus and Christianity.
Constantine c.272 c.337
Constantine founded the Edict of Millan. This said that everyone could worship whoever the
wanted without persecution. Constantine helped Christian s a great deal, because before they were
being persecuted. Constantine wasn t always as fond of Christianity. Constantine one day had a
dream/vision that led him to next put crosses on his soldiers shields. They won their battle and
Constantine became fond of Christianity, he said that God was one of the causes for winning. The
religion of Rome was stated as Christianity by him in 392 AD.

Mesopotamia Problems
Mesopotamia was located in Middle East, between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, now this land
is located mostly in Iraq. Mesopotamia is the place where humans first formed civilizations.
Mesopotamia is called the cradle civilization. This is known as this because the people of this
culture developed a large amount of things. For instance: government, written language, religion,
agriculture, and large cities. The early settlers in Mesopotamiastarted to go into small villages and
towns. Eventually they learned how to irrigate land and they grew crops on large farms, after that
the towns grew bigger. Later these towns turned into large cities.
Most of the people lived in mud brick homes. In the cities every family had its own house it didn t

In Mesopotamia there were unpredictable flooding. This caused the land
To become desert like if there was only a little bit of rain. To solve this problem the Sumerians
dug into the banks and created some irrigation canals that carried the water to fields. This allowed
them to grow many crops. Also the villages and towns were on flat land with no natural barriers.
This made it very difficult to defend and there was no standing armies. This caused the Sumerians
to build mud brick walls around their cities for defense.
Sumerians had a low supply of resources available for building and making tools. To solve this
problem they traded cloth, grain, and crafting tools with the people from the mountains and deserts.
In exchange they received stone, wood and metals. Another problem was that the people of
Mesopotamia fought against each other for control over the Tigris and Euphrates. However this
problem wasn t solved and and it still continues today. The people in Turkey wanted to build dams
along the rivers for power and irrigation. Syria and Iraq wanted to use the water from these rivers
for power and

Irac of Negligence
Introduction: In Rebecca Zorba s Restaurant case, the main issue is whether negligence exists of
the defendant? There are three prerequisites must be present before the tort of negligence can
arise: a duty of care must be owed by one person to another; there must be a breach of that duty of
care; and damage must have been suffered as a result of the breach of duty. (FoBL, 2005, p70)
In addition, another element must be satisfied to prove negligence is the causation. This essay
will analysis Rebecca v. Zorba s with these four issues. IRAC Process No. 1 Does Zorba s

IRAC Process No. 4 Is there any defenses can be rise? There are two defences to an action in
negligence: contributory negligence and voluntary assumption of risk. (FoBL, 2005, p83) This
case only involves contributory negligence. According to section 26 of the Wrongs Act 1958
(Vic.), the result of a successful plea of contributory negligence will be an apportionment of
damages. So, if a defendant is a negligent without any contributory negligence by the plaintiff, the
plaintiff will receive 100 per cent of the damage, but if the plaintiff is held to be contributory
negligent to the extent of 40 per cent, then the plaintiff will only receive 60 per cent of the
damage. (FoBL, 2005, p84) For instance, the case of Liftronic Pty Ltd v. Unver[10], the
defendant (Liftronic Pty Ltd) was found liable in negligence but Unver s damages were reduced
by 60 per cent due to his contributory negligence. In this case, Rebecca had seen the waiter
wiping the floor, and assumed that all of the moisture had been cleared away. Then she did not
ask the waiter about the damp floor, continue to dance vigorously. Therefore, the defendant could
apportion part of damages by contributory negligence. Conclusion: To sum up, based on the law of
negligence, the issues and precedents, Rebecca could win this case by legal process. Because the
defendant Zorba s Restaurant owns a duty of care to Rebecca, the restaurant has breached that duty
of care;

Case Study Of Heinz
BRAND HEINZ Heinz
Introduction:
Till a few years back the fast food market in INDIA was not a very prominent industry mostly
because there were less of fast food joints and disposable incomes. But with the growth of both
these elements the fast food market in India received a boost. Fast food and ketchup are directly
proportional to one another. The sweet and tangy taste provided by ketchup adds to the entire
experience of a delicious or finger licking meal. Thus the rise in the demand for fast food has
resulted in the rise in the demand for ketchup in INDIA. According to a recent survey, it is
estimated that Indians spend about Rs.4,449 crore a year in fast food centres.

Though the blind test it has been found that Heinz is in 2nd number followed by Maggi and
Kissan. Heinz gave tough competition to Cermica (1st position) but due to lack of tanginess and
little sweeter taste it occupied second place.
Verdict on Positioning:
After studying all the above aspects I found Positioning of Heinz Ketchup in India is CORRECT .
Earlier, their positioning of product was not right and they were not concentrating on their POP s
and POD as their value proposition was Redder Thicker and Tastier which is very common in today
s ketchup market.
Heinz Ketchup Brand is getting up in market after its new campaign Grown Not Made .
Heinz has used its retro style of packaging which makes their product easily identifiable on the
shelves of the supermarket.
Recent commercial Indian ad launched by Heinz was as per their POP s and POD.
Recommendations:
Ready meals are one of the fastest growing areas of the food market in developed, as well as
developing countries such as India, so there is a tremendous growth opportunity for ready meal
manufacturers. Hence, company should also introduce new varieties of ketchup to enhance its
brand image in the

Selma Sparknotes
The film Selma tells the story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. s fight for equal voting rights during
the Civil Rights Movement of 1965. Many events in the beginning of the movie set up the plot
for the rest of the film; Dr. King accepts his Nobel Peace Prize, a group of black girls are killed in
a bombing by the Ku Klux Klan, and Annie Cooper is denied the ability to vote by a white
registrar in Selma, Alabama. King then asks President Lyndon Johnson to pass a law to allow
African Americans to freely register to vote. The unsure president tells King he has more important
tasks to focus on and dismisses the Reverend s request. Throughout the film, King s actions are

However, blacks were still unable to vote freely. In order for an African Americanto vote, they
would have to have an approved, registered voter to allow them to vote in addition paying the
poll tax. Annie Lee Cooper, played by Oprah Winfrey, is denied the right to vote when going to
register at the county courthouse in Selma, Alabama. After punching the sheriff because he poked
her neck with a club, Cooper is arrested. Dr. King travels to Selma and when checking into his
hotel, is punched by a white male. These two racist remarks depicts the attitude of whites towards
King and the hardships blacks are still facing after the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Dr. King, played
by David Oyelowo, later makes an official statement to the Southern Christian Leadership
conference to urge the country to ensure the equality of voting rights after President Johnson
dismissed King s request to pass a bill. King preaches at Brown Chapel and later discusses with
SCLC and SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) the best strategy to make the

Paul Laurence Dunbar s We Wear the Mask and His Facade...
Paul Laurence Dunbar s poem We Wear The Mask is about his views on
racism and the struggle for equality for the African Americans. What is so
beautifully unique is how he wrote it in an artful, refined dissimulation of his true
self. He is deliberately misleading and often indirect as if to hide beneath his
words, coming across as oblique and delicate at the same time. This further
stresses the idea of the mask, being concealing and elusive, in many ways.
This particular piece of work is unequaled, not only to the literary world,
but the author himself. Paul Laurence Dunbar s other poems are written in a
specific dialect, brought on by his African American descent. One example comes from

veil to shield the emotions of bearer of the mask and personal denial of specific
emotions whether they are guilt, sorrow, or anger. Emotions are tightly capped
when the mask hides our cheeks and shades our eyes where you cannot tell if
he is crying or smiling.
The debt we pay to human guile is reference to the slavery and struggle
of the African Americans. Human guile is the trickery, cunning, and deceit of
those who enslaved them. Dunbar doesn t actually mean that they are in debt
but it was sarcasm and irony to the fact that they have paid their lives to people
who had no interest in the well being of the African Americans, only in the
leisure of their own. It is clear the wounds afflicted during the ever lasting conflict
were deep but Dunbar states with torn and bleeding hearts we smile because
while the struggle was hard, he knows somehow that it will come to and end and
his people would flourish. More importantly, the mouth of which they smile with is
laced with myriad subtleties , countless misleading crafty features that leads you
to understand the facade, knowing there is hurtful doubt behind it.
Paul Dunbar then continues to question the world and it s eagerness to be
over wise , to recount the African American s miseries one after another. While

Pros And Cons Of Cameras On Police Officer
The Pros and Cons of Cameras on Police Officer s
In this day in age, technology has a big influence on people lives and one of these influences is
the use of recording videos. Going on the internet you can find any type of video and stream it,
which can be good for a learning experience, but it also could have a negative experience as well.
This is no different for police with body worn cameras, since there is always will be pros and

In this years time frame, the study found that citizens complaints went for .07 per thousand contacts
without the use of cameras to 0.07 per thousand contacts with the use of cameras (Ariel, Farrar,
Sutherland, 2015). The study shows that police worn body cameras can be a good solution to a
growing problem of citizens complaints.
False Accusations Increase Accountability
One of the ideas behind the cameras is to help with false accusations made against law
enforcement. A problem that police deal with is the accusations that police stick together,
therefore it is the perception that law enforcement will not go against another officer s word. No
one is perfect, therefore I am sure that this has happened before, although the idea of the camera
is to show the public that no one is above the law. Implementing these cameras will help by
adopting an objective, transparent monitoring system that allows us to defend those unjustly
accused and correct or punish those caught abusing their power, we can prove to the public we
believe no person should be above the law, particularly those sworn to uphold it (New York Times,
2013). This will put more pressure on the police officer, but at the same time it will increase their
accountability by making them more aware of their surroundings when a situation may occur.
Provide Valuable Evidence Another important factor in the police worn camera is the valuable
evidence that is provided

In his desire to further increase its revenues at approximately 300%, he sought new
opportunities. The bank teamed up with GRC and entered into a guarantee agreement with the
Home Guaranty Corporation (HGC) for the securitization of P5.8 billion worth of housing
loans. The guaranty program aimed to liquefy through the asset backed securitization (ABS)
ranging from P10,000 to 1.0 M, with a yield of 15% per annum paid quarterly and a term of five
years. This strategy met with great success for 6 straight years of record increases in profits. In
2006, GOCB was highly leveraged with as high as 85 percent. However, it managed to lower the
debt ratio to 60 percent to retain shareholder confidence and ensure the bank s eligibility for a B
bond rating. Strong reputable brand name, financial strength, and a strategic fit were the three
key ingredients why the GOCB s 10 million shares had market value of P250 each which is 10
times the net income per share. This further boosted its market position to hold the top 20 spot
with a total resource base of P35 billion as of December 2007, which comprised of 10% of the

Sugar and Its Effect on Our Bodies
Many foods and drinks around the world are laced with sugar and the sugar levels are indicated.
Sugar is added to not only sweeten things, but to also improve the texture. Sugar is to some extent
used as a preservative as well, for example, when added to cut up fresh berries, the berries remain
fresher for longer than one without sugar. Processed foods are likely to have higher sugar levels
than home cooked foods since adding sugar is a modest way adding volume and weight. Sugar also
aids in making inferior foods pleasant. Unfortunately for consumers, sugar escalates calories while
having no nutritional value to the consumer.
Effects of Sugar on our Bodies
Sugar comes in various forms and not just the white powder beet sugar we are used to. It comes
in the form of corn syrup, maple syrup and honey, and affects the body negatively in equal
measure. For example, excess sugar has adverse effects on metabolism and may lead to all
manner of diseases. Below I will discuss the top disturbing effects of added sugar and why people
should avoid or at least control their sugar intake.
пѓ Added sugar has no nutritional value to the body and is bad for the teeth. I am sure you have
heard this on numerous occasions, but it is worth reminding you. Added sugars such as fructose
corn syrup and sucrose contain high amounts of calories and zero essential nutrients. For this fact,
they are stereotyped as empty calories. When people consume 10 20% of calories as sugar, this

Augustus Analysis
Nevertheless, Tacitus also wrote after the time of Augustus at the end of the first century AD,
however unlike other sources he conveys a very bias perspective on Augustus and his rule. This
may be due to the change that Augustus made to the government, especially when the empire was
left to be run by power hungry successors after Augustuss death. This in hand would of left Tacitus
blaming Augustus as he was the first roman emperor, leaving Tacitus to experience tyranny,
corruption and decadence which may explain his bitter and ironic political analysis. This is also
seen as his writings are filled with snide remarks (innuendo) of Augustus and essentially how he
created corruption, governmental scandal and innocent people being destroyed because of his lust
for power. Overall, these three sources are equally biased because they were all issued after
Augustus s reign yet still show a depiction of Augustus which is an opposing view to that found in
other sources, as all three of the primary sources believed that an emperor... Show more content on

This confusion of being good is show in the characters of Rorschach, Nite Owl, and Silk Spectre
II. The character of Rorschach had a very dark childhood as he rejected is by his mother causing
him to always be against women. He s very closed minded this is seen when Dr. Manhattan
agrees with Ozymandias s plan to bring the world together. (Moore 405 406). Rorschach becomes
a psychopath when it comes to dealing with criminals; he always wants to get rid of the bad.
Rorschach punishes those who he thinks are evil with no remorse and according to him he is the
real definition of heroism. In Rorschach s journal, we see the inner thoughts of his character and
psyche... Rorschach s journal entries and the crumbing morale of the surrounding city offer the
reader a harsh and frank critique. (Cummings 21). That showed that the point of his journal was just
to provide the reader with harsh truths. Rorschach believes that humans have no value and the only
point of life is to make sure that there is justice. In

Final Design For The Ball Sorting Device Essay
Final Design
Our final design for the ball sorting device is composed of 5 primary components: Ramp,
separation device, dome, base, and collection device.
Separation device:
The need for a separation device came to attention as interference between the balls on the ramp
as well as the dome was observed. To avoid interference there needed to be space between the
balls. The separation device is a hollow, circular cylinder with rods inserted horizontally (parallel
to the radius and perpendicular to the height) from one side and out throughout the other, but at
different angles, with vertical spacing between the rods. This would basically function like a
pegboard; As the balls fall into the cylinder they will collide with the road and will fall onto either
side of the rod, and continue falling until they hit another rod. Each time they hit a rod there will be
a ВЅ probability for the balls to tilt towards either side. A total of of rods were inserted. A
cardboard tube was used as the cylinder and chopsticks as the rods. The materials chosen were
cheap, lightweight, and strong enough. This introduces randomness in the system as well the
slowing of the balls falling so that space between the balls are created. The balls then enter the ramp.
Ramp:
The ramp is the source of energy for the balls. Energy here is in the form of gravity, as the start of
the ramp is elevated to and it provides potential energy using the formula, where m is the mass of
the individual balls provided, h as

Imagery Pattern of Clouds in the Portrait of an Artist by...
The Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce is widely recognized by New Critics as
one of the greatest novels of its age for its aesthetic artistry. In the Portrait, a powerful
autobiographical novel of bildungsroman, commonly known as a coming of age story, that follows
the life of Irish protagonist Stephen Dedalus, Joyce portraits his momentous transition to adulthood
as a passage of psychological struggle towards his ultimate philosophical awakening and his
spiritual rebirth as an artist. Most visibly in Chapter Four of the novel, Stephen Dedalus, after the
denial of his own priesthood, goes on to seek his artistic personality through his secluded journey
amongst a myriad of natural elements. Dramatizing the Stephen s... Show more content on

He heard a confused music within him as of memories and names which he was almost conscious
of but could not capture even for an instant; then the music seemed to recede, to recede, to recede,
and from each receding trail of nebulous music there fell always one longdrawn calling note,
piercing like a star the dusk of silence. Again! Again! Again! A voice from beyond the world was
calling. (107)
Here, Stephen instantly displays a strong intimacy with the wafting clouds as they draw his
attention away from the pressing commandments posed by the Christian decree. Personifying the
clouds as the wanderers with spirits as his companions, Stephen takes refuge amongst the aimless
cloud to drift across the boundless sky. Dappled and seaborne, Stephen admits himself not so
purified and free of desires as devoted Christian brothers, as well as his earthly origin that he is
inevitably composed of. Consequently, Stephen finds imagination to be his key towards his own
enlightenment; just like the capricious clouds, Stephen follows his imaginations and brings the
perpetual beauty out of the sluggish matter of the earth to its sublimity across the clear sky (108).
Joyce also portraits clouds as the mild framers of the sunlight, an indirect contrast with the
conventional square framed windows at the church that Stephen

Ethical Issues In The Movie The Insider
The movie The Insider portrays what one man was willing to give up to provide the public with
beneficial information. Dr. Jeffrey Wigand left his work in healthcare for a job with a tobacco

stunt and Wigand was removed from those efforts to research on cigarette additives. Wigand
discovered additives used to improve flavor caused cancer and took the information to the
executives, to have the additive removed. The executives declined the request and Wigand was

Comparing The Negro Artist And The Racial Mountain By...
Langston Hughes is arguably the most famous black writer in all of American history. His works
are anthologized and taught in schools all across the nation and he is viewed by many as a
shinning beacon of American artistry at its best. Part of his genius in addressing racial issues in the
United States is in his nuanced approach to racial healing. Langston Hughespresents two different
ways of looking at the issue of race: one in Theme for English B and I, Too highlights a need for
national unity and oneness, while another, expressed in his essay The Negro Artist and the Racial
Mountain supports a celebration of one s heritage. Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri

black Americans their unique cultural heritage (Longabucco). Had Hughes followed the
conventions of early twentieth century literature, and tried to whitewash all of his writings, he

work role produce the following:
* Write a description of the duties and responsibilities of your own work role (1.1)
* Prepare an explanation of the expectations about your own work role as expressed in relevant
standards (1.2)

Having codes of practise within the care industry is important, due to the industry entitling you to
work with and amongst vulnerable individuals in society, ensuring that there is a certain standard of
work along with a certain standard of moral and ethical behaviour.
Within a job description the main points usually tell you what tasks and responsibilities you are
required to do, it does not state how these requirements need to be carried out. In order to find
this out, you would refer to the relevant standards that are in place that allow you to work.
Relevant standards, like codes of practice will differ depending on the country in which you
work. Each UK country has National Minimal Standards that are used by inspectors to ensure that
services are being delivered at an acceptable level. National Occupational Standards are also set
across the whole of the UK to ensure that an individual effectively carries out their work within the
care industry. The National Occupational Standards form the basis to all qualifications in the care
sector (Pearsons College amp; FE College, n.d.).
The two main pieces of legislation that provide the framework for ensuring children s personal
development and health and safety in a setting is the Childcare Act 2006 as well as the Health and

Imagery is describing an author s use of vivid description that evokes the reader to feel as if they
can visualize the scene. In the book, imagery is portrayed by the author to make people feel like

described in this quote, I watch the highway lights, my eyelids sinking, then the summer

communicate the emotions to the reader. When Tim was describing the size of the pool at the

Peter chooses to help people around Queens out of the goodness of his heart, because he knows
he has the power to. Before Uncle Ben dies, he tells Peter that with great power comes great
responsibility (The Amazing Spider Man). Peter takes this advice to heart and uses his powers
to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. When asked by Tony Stark why he
chooses to fight crime, Peter says, When you can do the things that I can, but you don t... and
then the bad things happen, they happen because of you. (Captain America: Civil War). This
statement shows how Peter has taken on the burden of powers by devoting himself to stopping
bad things from happening. Peter s willingness to take up his responsibilities to save innocent
lives makes him a great character. Peter Parker s devotion to his family elevates his character to
a higher standard. Peter is devastated when his uncle dies but doesn t allow his grief to pull him
away from his aunt. He does everything in his power to protect Aunt May from finding out his
secret, because he knows how much she would worry about him. After his best friend finds out
about Spider Man, Peter begs him not to tell Aunt May by saying You know what she s like, if

Narrative Of Slavery By Frederick Douglass

Frederick Douglass s Narrative paints a very real and powerful picture of slave life. During the
time that his Narrative was written, some believed that black people were unable to contribute
to society and should simply be used as workers for white people. He shows how white slave
owners maintained power and control over their slaves by their brutal and inhumane treatment
of them and by keeping them ignorant and uneducated. Slave owners routinely kept very basic
information from their slaves. Douglass writes, I have no accurate knowledge of my age, never
having seen any authentic record containing it (Belasco 1016). Also, I do not remember to have
ever met a slave who could tell of his birthday (Belasco 1016). This is, of course, something that
white children knew and most even celebrated but for a slave to ask about was considered,
improper and impertinent, and evidence of a restless spirit (Belasco 1016). In addition to not

Two Approaches Of Pragmatics
According to Schmitt (2010), there are two approaches of pragmatics, a cognitive or psychological
approach which is exploring the relation between linguistic meaning of utterances, the
decontextualized, what speakers mean by their utterances on a particular situation and how hearer
interpret those utterances on those particular situations. Cognitive approach was developed by
philosophers Austin, Searle, and Grice. On the other hand, social pragmaticsapproach which focuses
on the communicative exchanges between individuals in social, cultural and other contextual
factors. Brown and Levinson (1978 1987) introduced face model of politeness to this approach.
The main objective of pragmatics is to study on how non native speakers comprehend and produce
speech acts in a target language. Speech act is not the whole of pragmatics, but is perhaps currently
the most important part of the subject. Many of the topics addressed in both narrow and broad
views derive from three major pragmatic theories: Speech Acts, Conversational Implicatures, ...

Rhetorical Analysis Of Ronald Reagan s Speech On The...
On January 28th, 1986, Ronald Reagan used his stature as president to show sympathy for the
country in the light of tragedy, in his speech entitled Speech on the Challenger Disaster. His main
point expounds on the importance of the Challenger Disaster in the history of space exploration. He
supports this claim by first explaining the effect the disaster had on the public, then offering his
sympathy for the families of the astronauts as well as the entire nation, and finally declaring that the
country must continue to explore space so the deaths of the astronauts were not in vain. Through
Reagan s use of rhetorical appeals, tone, and rhetorical tools he effectively persuades the American

Reagan carefully chose his words during his speech on the Challenger Disaster, using specific
pronouns completely changed the way the country received the message. It was initiated when
he said, we ve never lost an astronaut in flight; we ve never had a tragedy like this (5). Later he
also stated: We ve grown used to the idea of space, and perhaps we forget that we ve only just
begun (7). Reagan s use of we throughout the speech shows the nation that even high figures
such as celebrities and political figure, in which Reagan represented both, also feel as the
common people do in times of struggle and devastation. Allowing the citizens of America a
shoulder to cry on for a dark and challenging time in the history of the country. Towards the end
of the text Reagan started to create allusions for the American people to compare the fallen
astronauts to. Such as when Reagan stated: the great explorer Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship
off the coast of Panama. In his lifetime the great frontiers were the oceans, and a historian later
said, He lived by the sea, died on it, and was buried in it (10). Also he makes reference to the
religious figures at the end when he says, slipped the surly bongs of earth to touch the face of
God (11). Using these allusions, Reagan was able to effectively convince the audience that the
astronauts died for a reason and a cause, to expand our knowledge of space and explore what it
could possibly contain. In the case that Reagan had not given this speech it could be possible
that many people around the world would want to back off from exploring space because it could
kill people that attempt to travel into it. But Reagan s speech was able to revoke confidence in
NASA and other space programs, letting moms let their kids become astronauts and not saying no
because of how dangerous it could be.

A Thousand Splendid Suns By Khaled Hosseini
In Khaled Hosseini s novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, women live in an oppressive,
discriminatory Afghan society in which they are deemed useless and obtain little to no rights, yet
still manage to endure the burden that falls upon them. After the immensely false interpretations
of her father and the bitter fatality of her mother, Mariam s father demands she marries a stranger
considerably older than her at the age of fifteen. Rasheed prays daily in hopes for Laila to produce

evident when youthful Mariam unwillingly marries an outright stranger because her father and
wives demands she do so.
Mariam is in absolute disbelief when Jalil s wives instruct her to marry a forty five year old man
immediately while Jalil watches speechlessly and approves of the arranged, instant, forced marriage
. After less than a month of living with her father, his wives find the perfect opportunity to remove
Mariam from the household which simultaneously abolishes the last trace of her father s

Examples Of Ethical Issues In The Movie
6.Do you think the form of presentation of ethical issues in that art form a correct portrayal of the
ethical issue? Was it lost in details or made subtle, intangible and more convincing? 300 words.
The ethical issues manifest in the form of unintentional irony. Bruner remarks in the first half of the
movie that she is an agnostic, skeptical woman and does not believe in Father Moore s explanation
of the events that have transpired. Later on when she herself experiences some events that veer on
the threshold of the supernatural, she decides to prove to the court that Emily in fact was possessed
by demons. In the end, failing to produce adequate evidence, she manipulates the jury using Father
Moore s background and influences them further by invoking their faith, the faith that she has
newly discovered.
If the viewers find themselves engaging with the supernatural aspect of the film, they certainly miss
the ethical breach that Bruner commits. Because the viewer follows the movie only from the point
of view of either Bruner or Father Moore, they are oblivious to the manipulation that Bruner and
Father Moore execute throughout. The ethical issue is not presented as the central issue the use of
religious sentiments to sway the public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie, when Emily was refused medical aid (approved by her), raises the question,
whether right to life include, right to die. In Indian context, Supreme Court in the case of Gian
Kaur v. State of Punjab 1996 AIR 946 held that Art.21 is a provision guaranteeing protection of
life and personal liberty and by no stretch of imagination can extinction of life be read to be
included in protection of life. Further, in State of Punjab v. M.S. Chawla (dated 17 December,
1996), it has been held that the right to life guaranteed under Article 21 includes within its ambit
the right to health and medical care which were not granted in this

Visual Analysis Of Geico Ads
Advertisers pay billions of dollars to create ads every year, and some prey on mankind s
weakness, buying products they don t need. Magazines are a popular place for advertisements
because of the broad spectrum of people that purchase them. Magazines are sold in stores and
people buy subscriptions to them too. The techniques used in some advertisements should be
consider wrong and even dangerous. Some examples of the things used in advertisements are
sexuality, fear, and bribery. Because these techniques are out there, people should be made aware
of their seductive powers. GQ: 60th Anniversary Edition has a Geico ad that shows some of those
techniques (73). The audience that advertisers want to appeal with this ad are males who like fashion

Advertising plays a big part in life, not having it could hurt the economy, and primarily as a
country not enough people would buy things because they simple don t know about them. So,
advertising is a key informational tool about products in society today. The economy is built
around people spending money on all products that exist in the world, sustaining it through
taxation. A person usually buys something because it appeals to them in three ways: It looks
good, it s a great deal, and this is a necessity. Because an item looks good, doesn t mean people
should buy it but this is the case most of the time. Also people love when they can save a dollar
or two, and this is why there are coupons a different type of advertisement similar to the Geico
ad, essentially still promising that it will save money if money is spent. Is saving money
spending money, just to save a percentage in the long run? Sometimes, people will not save
money because they don t have the product to begin with, and it can if an existing product is
price reduced by a similar product. The main reason people want to believe they buy something
is because they think it s a necessity to their life. In life there are tons of products that are needed,
and some of those are advertised such as healthcare that should be free. People need insurance in
the society they live in today, and people can even be

Statement of Purpose for a Career in Nursing
It is said that the environment of our upbringing plays a salient role in determining the ambitions
we pursue, the moral values we cherish and ultimately, the lasting contributions we make to
society. I firmly believe that my formative experiences laid down the foundation for passion for
nursing and constitute one of the salient reasons why I am determined to pursue this profession.
For me nursing, is more than a mere vocation, it is a moral commitment, the manifestation of my
natural talents and the actualization of the deep seated aspirations that I have nourished since
childhood. My mother was an accomplished nurse and always set a remarkable example for me
to follow by displaying virtues of compassion, moral courage and dedication to the public good.
My life experiences compelled me to emulate her example by cultivating the virtues of compassion
and genuine sensitivity to patients. My formative experiences and core values led me to enter this
career in the capacity of a Certified Nursing Assistantwhere I was distinguished for not only my
competence as a nurse assistant, but also for my remarkable sensitivity to the needs of the patients.
I intend to continue to actualize my natural talents by pursuing a career in Nursing.
To her profound dismay, the social, political and economic circumstances prevented her from living
consistently with the lifelong aspirations that she imparted upon me. As natives of Sierra Leone, we

Essay On The Age Of Wordsworth
The Age of Wordsworth (1798 1832) is considered to have begun with the joint publication of
Lyrical Ballads by the Lake Poets , William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The poetry
of this age witnessed altering of the theme from public and impersonal to subjective. Common
people and common things were given the most importance. Depiction of countryside, rural life,
pastoral life and Nature was common. The subject of the poetryswitched from facts, reasons to the
world of imagination, passion, and senses. Imagination is the soul of romantic poetry. Poets
employed it to experience transcendentalism and spirituality. Emotions were the bed rock of
romanticism. It took over reason and logic. Poets talked about the elementary passions of human
beings, derived through the senses eyes, nose, ears. It was marked with super naturalism and was
devoid of materialism. They had a vision of the mystic and mysterious forces whom they called the
divine. To complement the subject of poetry, the language used by the poets was simple and rustic,
the one that is spoken by common people. There was no stereotypical and conventional diction.
Poets used various forms of meter. Rhyme and rhythm wasn t their actual concern, expressing the

its glorious fiction with bizarre and outlandish occurrences and it s boring mundane truth. As the
plot progresses one will be able to understand this divide between what is true and what never

primarily a fictional recounting of the life of Edward Bloom. A majority of the plot takes place

Within the story, his weaknesses seemed to overpower the significance of the strengths. The one

jealousy created by not receiving the same love from God. I believe that it is significant that
Cain s weaknesses are shown in the story. It proves a case where most humans can find relatable

suffering. Out of all the characters from the Hebrew Bible, the noblest seemed to be Noah. This is

Pulmonary Valve Syndrome Research Paper
Pulmonary Valve Stenosis, Pediatric
Pulmonary valve stenosis is a heart problem some children are born with (congenital heart defect).
This defect is a stiffening or narrowing (stenosis) of a one way valve in the heart. It is the valve
that allows blood to flow from the pumping chamber on the right side of the heart (right ventricle)
into the blood vessel that carries blood to the lungs. If not enough blood is flowing through the
valve, not enough oxygen will get into your child s blood. The child s heart will also be forced to
work harder.
Pulmonary valve stenosis develops during the first 8 weeks as a child is growing inside the womb.
It sometimes develops with other types of heart abnormalities. Pulmonary valve stenosis can range

The Best Days Of My Life
I have lived in Columbia for all my life. I have lived in two different houses in a matter of
fourteen years. There are some days that I want to forget because I hated what I did that day,
also, there are some days in Columbia that I will never forget. For example, the day I moved was
one of the best days of my life because now I don t need to share a room with my brother. Also,
seeing all the stuff we have had in his garage that we have had for 14 years. When I was looking
at all those stuff it reminded me how special our old house was. One of my personal favorites
was when I was in 5th grade. At my school we had something called Safety patrol, and that is
where we come before and after school to tell the K 4 to stop running and to walk to the
playground or the bus. Usually, after school, I would go to my aunt s work and it would be the
best time. I got to see all the different things she does. She gets to see people at the hospital,
which I got to do 1 time and the patient was the nicest in the world. She gave me 10 dollars to
buy food of my choice and I got a cheeseburger and fries for lunch. Since my aunt and my mom
work at the hospital usually after about 20 minutes I would go over to my mom s office and go
and finish my homework. Then I and my mom would go home. this really reflected on my life
because after going home I learned that even though people are not as safe as other people we
can still help them in certain ways. Moving is also one of my favorite things, but the main
reason is changing schools. I changed from Lange to Gentry. When I first heard we were
moving I was so mad because at Lange I had so many. Friends that I never wanted to forget but I
only knew about 3 5 people at gentry so it was scary for me. The first week of school I had to go
to my friend Charlie s house because at the time we had not moved to into our new house.
During school, it was a shock to me because at the time I did not know that Gentry and Lange
look the same so, during the first day, I knew every single room from up to down. When I got
my schedule for the first time I did not have everything I did at Lange. On my original schedule, I
did not have band or AVID on there so I had to go to the office and get

The Change of Baseball Over the Years Essay
From the sandlot to stadiums seating over fifty thousand people, the game of baseball has
provided people of all ages with a common foundation; a sport we can all call our national
pastime. Though its concept sounds simple, a game using a ball and a bat, millions of people all
over the world have sought involvement in it by either playing at some level, or just sitting back
and watching a game. With professional baseballattracting more and more fans each season, no one
knows what limits this sport can reach. For the time being though, it has been a real home run.
Like any other sport, baseball developed over an extended period of time spanning way back to the
1600 s. The first evidence of the sport was a game called rounders, ... Show more content on

A man by the name of Alexander Cartwright, a sportsman from New York started the first organized
baseball club, the
Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York (30). Along with establishing the first baseball club,
he added a set of written rules, which are extremely parallel to the ones of today (30). Some of
these rules, stated in 1845, include, the distance between all the bases being ninety feet, and having
nine players on each side. No longer would players be plugging runners, but now they would be
tagging them with the ball. The rule of forcing a player out at a base was also introduced in 1854.
Finally, other rules changed over time such as the length of the game change to nine innings and
the distance from the pitchers found to home plate now being sixty feet. Another major landmark
in the history of baseball, the invention of the newspaper box score, occurred in 1845 as well. With
all these new advances, the game naturally began to spread across the country (32).
Not only did the famous Civil War (1861 1865) spread our nation into the north and south, but on
a positive note, it also spread the sport of baseball all over the country. As an example, the union
soldiers would play the game as a form of recreation as the rest of the union troops and even
confederate prisoners would watch (47). Something similar to a domino effect started as the
prisoners and soldiers came home from

The first thing that I noticed that my section did really well was the dynamics at measure seventeen. The whole band could work on is staying in balance with other people because you could pick out certain voices in the sections. In delsonaya we really could of brought down are volume when the flute solo came in because she could be barley heard over the band. The bass voices could improve on ninety eight because when we would come up in the menacing it sounded as if we were slurring the notes and not making them prominent. the trumpet on the solo at the start was amazing and sounded perfect and was played musically. • 3. Essay On Pathogenesis Of Arthritis Discussion Over five decades of research, have shown complex pathogenesis of RA. Variable clinical responses to targeted therapies, such as TNF blockers, T cell costimulation inhibitors, and B cell depletors, demonstrate that the disease is heterogeneous and probably lacks a single mechanism that applies to all patients (21). Inhibition of adjuvant induced arthritis (AIA) in rats is one of the most suitable test procedures to screen anti arthritic agents since it closely resembles human arthritis (22). The present study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of the use of MPEE for one and two weeks on ankle diameter, serum levels of RF, pro inflammatory biomarkers (IL 1 ОІ and TNF О±), anti inflammatory cytokines (IL 4 and IL 10),... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, previous study demonstrated that the effect of thymol, a natural monoterpene phenol primarily found in mandarin peel, on anti inflammation not only comes from the expression of inflammatory cytokines but also from the iNOS and COX 2 pathway. The promising anti inflammatory effect of thymol may involve in the inhibition of NF ОєB and MAPK signaling pathways (26). TNF О± being a key inflammatory mediator triggers an increase in synovial proliferation and also production of other secondary mediators. TNF О± also induces osteoclast differentiation. Overproduction of TNF О± in affected joint causes a cascade of secondary mediators involved in the recruitment of inflammatory cells which leads to joint destruction (27). The actions of IL 1ОІ include induction of knee joint inflammation, cartilage damage and bone resorption (28). Cyclooxygenase (COX) is strongly induced by IL 1ОІ and plays an important role in the pathophysiology of rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, down regulation of pro inflammatory cytokines and NF ОєB may be an appropriate therapeutic strategy for rheumatoid arthritis (29). The current study revealed increased serum levels of both IL 1ОІ and TNF О± in the RA control groups. These results run parallel to several reports showed that progression of RA is accelerated by pro inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. TNF О± and IL 1ОІ are reported to be associated with the progression of RA (30). Also, it was observed significantly high levels of IL 1ОІ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Pablo Neruda Metaphors Poems are a way for people to express their feelings in an art form that provides enough literary clues and expressive qualities to help a reader understand what is being expressed. Pablo Neruda became a legendary poet in his lifetime from 1904 to 1973 in Chile. He never failed to leave a part of himself in each of his poems for the reader to either identify with or interpret, which is most evident in his use of metaphor. His metaphors can be labelled as being open , for they provide literal comparisons between two completely unrelated ideas, which leave room for personal interpretation. Because of the confusion evident in those connections, the reader is immersed into the metaphor and its resulting tone, mood, and connotative meanings. Pablo... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Neruda comes to a conclusion about his feelings, speaking to his loved one, he tells her that if she feels compelled every day to love him with implacable sweetness,/ if each day a flower/ climbs up to your lips to seek me,/ ah my love, ah my own,/ in me all that fire is repeated, / in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,/ my love feeds on your love, beloved (Lines 38 44). As the poem concludes in the sixth line, the reader is softly coasted to the end of the poem. Neruda knows he may have to part from his lover one day, but he ensures that she understands that as long as she continues to love him without his presence, he will feel her commitment and continue to love her back. He describes her devotion using the description of a flower climbing up to her lips to seek him. The flower is part of an open metaphor, since the meaning of the statement can differ despite the flower being a clear symbol of love. Either the flower climbing to her lips is literal, as she may kiss a flower in memory of Neruda when he is not around, or it can be a representation of relentless, passionate love. After using the metaphor of a flower, the line is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Reflection On Solidarity Versus Charity After having been in your domestic/ national/international field placement, what is your perspective on solidarity versus charity? Provide examples from your experience. When I think of solidarity and charity, they both appear very similar and there is no black and white answer. However, when I think of charity, I always think of giving to those who have less than you. It is this idea that you may have authority or higher power over someone less fortunate. When volunteering for a charity, there is this idea that anything a volunteer does will be helpful. An example of charity to me, would be donating cloths to a shelter. From experience, interning at a shelter, people would always donate clothes. As this was necessary and helpful, at one point we were unable to accept any more clothing donations because we had too much. I think when people donate clothes, they automatically think they are contributing to the charity, following the idea that by doing that they helped the agency out. Solidarity on the other hand is a more personal approach to helping others. To me solidarity is when an individual truly works with others to identify what it is that they need or want, not just assuming that whichever service they provide will be helpful. I believe that solidarity takes more of an equality and empowering approach, which leads to working more collaboratively with individuals. I think an example of solidarity for me, would be my last year s internship at the domestic violence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The massive rubber soles overpowered my own feet, the heavily insulated vest pressed my sides together, and I could have sworn it clenched me tighter and tighter by the second. It forced me to breathe out of a compact tube, exposing the claustrophobia I did not know I had. But before I even had time to think, I went plunging under. The tepid salt water instantly enveloped me, and within seconds I floated back to the top. • 8. Acute Respiratory Syndrome Research Paper Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome: A Lucky Evolution? Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) was a viral disease that quickly spread China and the world in 2003 to 2004. The corona virus targeted the respiratory system and killed 10% of people who caught it. By examining articles that relate to this disease, I have come to the conclusion that SARS was just a One Hit Wonder that was the result of a lucky evolution because of how and when it happened. The virus only lasted for 2 years, evolved from bats, and is not likely to happen again in the same way. First of all, SARS was a lucky evolution because it only lasted for about a year. The first case of SARS was documented on November 16, 2002 and there have been no known cases since 2004. According to the EDU, a total of 8,098 people worldwide became sick ... Of these, 774 died. The virus disappeared after only about 2 years, and only a 10% fatality rate. If the virus was not a lucky evolution, and was designed to infect people, then would it... Berkley also says, Chinese horseshoe bats . . .are the [common] carriers of the SARS virus The disease came to humans by way of live animal markets in China, where the bats were kept in cages and handled by many people. All it took was one of the two human infecting strains to jump from the bats to one of the handlers, and the disease was set to infect all whom it came in contact with. Mesopotamia is the place where humans first formed civilizations. Mesopotamia is called the cradle civilization. This is known as this because the people of this culture developed a large amount of things. For instance: government, written language, religion, agriculture, and large cities. The early settlers in Mesopotamiastarted to go into small villages and towns. Eventually they learned how to irrigate land and they grew crops on large farms, after that the towns grew bigger. There are three prerequisites must be present before the tort of negligence can arise: a duty of care must be owed by one person to another; there must be a breach of that duty of care; and damage must have been suffered as a result of the breach of duty. (FoBL, 2005, p70) In addition, another element must be satisfied to prove negligence is the causation. This essay will analysis Rebecca v. Zorba s with these four issues. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... IRAC Process No. 4 Is there any defenses can be rise? There are two defences to an action in negligence: contributory negligence and voluntary assumption of risk. (FoBL, 2005, p83) This case only involves contributory negligence. According to section 26 of the Wrongs Act 1958 (Vic.), the result of a successful plea of contributory negligence will be an apportionment of damages. So, if a defendant is a negligent without any contributory negligence by the plaintiff, the plaintiff will receive 100 per cent of the damage, but if the plaintiff is held to be contributory negligent to the extent of 40 per cent, then the plaintiff will only receive 60 per cent of the damage. (FoBL, 2005, p84) For instance, the case of Liftronic Pty Ltd v. Unver[10], the defendant (Liftronic Pty Ltd) was found liable in negligence but Unver s damages were reduced by 60 per cent due to his contributory negligence. In this case, Rebecca had seen the waiter wiping the floor, and assumed that all of the moisture had been cleared away. Then she did not ask the waiter about the damp floor, continue to dance vigorously. Therefore, the defendant could apportion part of damages by contributory negligence. Conclusion: To sum up, based on the law of negligence, the issues and precedents, Rebecca could win this case by legal process. Case Study Of Heinz BRAND HEINZ Heinz Introduction: Till a few years back the fast food market in INDIA was not a very prominent industry mostly because there were less of fast food joints and disposable incomes. But with the growth of both these elements the fast food market in India received a boost. Fast food and ketchup are directly proportional to one another. The sweet and tangy taste provided by ketchup adds to the entire experience of a delicious or finger licking meal. Thus the rise in the demand for fast food has resulted in the rise in the demand for ketchup in INDIA. What is so beautifully unique is how he wrote it in an artful, refined dissimulation of his true self. He is deliberately misleading and often indirect as if to hide beneath his words, coming across as oblique and delicate at the same time. This further stresses the idea of the mask, being concealing and elusive, in many ways. This particular piece of work is unequaled, not only to the literary world, but the author himself. False Accusations Increase Accountability One of the ideas behind the cameras is to help with false accusations made against law enforcement. A problem that police deal with is the accusations that police stick together, therefore it is the perception that law enforcement will not go against another officer s word. No one is perfect, therefore I am sure that this has happened before, although the idea of the camera is to show the public that no one is above the law. To be able to finance this new strategy and to aggressively revive our bank, GOCB is contemplating a major move that will, in effect, recover from losses brought about by increasing mortgage default payments, valued at P5.0 billion. The bank teamed up with GRC and entered into a guarantee agreement with the Home Guaranty Corporation (HGC) for the securitization of P5.8 billion worth of housing loans. The guaranty program aimed to liquefy through the asset backed securitization (ABS) ranging from P10,000 to 1.0 M, with a yield of 15% per annum paid quarterly and a term of five years. This strategy met with great success for 6 straight years of record increases in profits. In 2006, GOCB was highly leveraged with as high as 85 percent. However, it managed to lower the debt ratio to 60 percent to retain shareholder confidence and ensure the bank s eligibility for a B bond rating. Strong reputable brand name, financial strength, and a strategic fit were the three key ingredients why the GOCB s 10 million shares had market value of P250 each which is 10 times the net income per share. This further boosted its market position to hold the top 20 spot with a total resource base of P35 billion as of December 2007, which comprised of 10% of the entire banking industry s total resources. ... • 19. Augustus Analysis Nevertheless, Tacitus also wrote after the time of Augustus at the end of the first century AD, however unlike other sources he conveys a very bias perspective on Augustus and his rule. This may be due to the change that Augustus made to the government, especially when the empire was left to be run by power hungry successors after Augustuss death. This in hand would of left Tacitus blaming Augustus as he was the first roman emperor, leaving Tacitus to experience tyranny, corruption and decadence which may explain his bitter and ironic political analysis. This is also seen as his writings are filled with snide remarks (innuendo) of Augustus and essentially how he created corruption, governmental scandal and innocent people being destroyed because of his lust for power. Overall, these three sources are equally biased because they were all issued after Augustus s reign yet still show a depiction of Augustus which is an opposing view to that found in other sources, as all three of the primary sources believed that an emperor... • 22. Final Design For The Ball Sorting Device Essay Final Design Our final design for the ball sorting device is composed of 5 primary components: Ramp, separation device, dome, base, and collection device. Separation device: The need for a separation device came to attention as interference between the balls on the ramp as well as the dome was observed. To avoid interference there needed to be space between the balls. The separation device is a hollow, circular cylinder with rods inserted horizontally (parallel to the radius and perpendicular to the height) from one side and out throughout the other, but at different angles, with vertical spacing between the rods. This would basically function like a pegboard; As the balls fall into the cylinder they will collide with the road and will fall onto either side of the rod, and continue falling until they hit another rod. Each time they hit a rod there will be a ВЅ probability for the balls to tilt towards either side. A total of of rods were inserted. A cardboard tube was used as the cylinder and chopsticks as the rods. The materials chosen were cheap, lightweight, and strong enough. This introduces randomness in the system as well the slowing of the balls falling so that space between the balls are created. The balls then enter the ramp. Ramp: The ramp is the source of energy for the balls. Energy here is in the form of gravity, as the start of the ramp is elevated to and it provides potential energy using the formula, where m is the mass of the individual balls provided, h as ... The Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce is widely recognized by New Critics as one of the greatest novels of its age for its aesthetic artistry. In the Portrait, a powerful autobiographical novel of bildungsroman, commonly known as a coming of age story, that follows the life of Irish protagonist Stephen Dedalus, Joyce portraits his momentous transition to adulthood as a passage of psychological struggle towards his ultimate philosophical awakening and his spiritual rebirth as an artist. Again! Again! Again! A voice from beyond the world was calling. (107) Here, Stephen instantly displays a strong intimacy with the wafting clouds as they draw his attention away from the pressing commandments posed by the Christian decree. Personifying the clouds as the wanderers with spirits as his companions, Stephen takes refuge amongst the aimless cloud to drift across the boundless sky. Dappled and seaborne, Stephen admits himself not so purified and free of desires as devoted Christian brothers, as well as his earthly origin that he is inevitably composed of. Consequently, Stephen finds imagination to be his key towards his own enlightenment; just like the capricious clouds, Stephen follows his imaginations and brings the perpetual beauty out of the sluggish matter of the earth to its sublimity across the clear sky (108). Reagan s use of we throughout the speech shows the nation that even high figures such as celebrities and political figure, in which Reagan represented both, also feel as the common people do in times of struggle and devastation. Allowing the citizens of America a shoulder to cry on for a dark and challenging time in the history of the country. Towards the end of the text Reagan started to create allusions for the American people to compare the fallen astronauts to. Such as when Reagan stated: the great explorer Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship off the coast of Panama. In his lifetime the great frontiers were the oceans, and a historian later said, He lived by the sea, died on it, and was buried in it (10). Also he makes reference to the religious figures at the end when he says, slipped the surly bongs of earth to touch the face of God (11). Using these allusions, Reagan was able to effectively convince the audience that the astronauts died for a reason and a cause, to expand our knowledge of space and explore what it could possibly contain. In the case that Reagan had not given this speech it could be possible that many people around the world would want to back off from exploring space because it could kill people that attempt to travel into it. After the immensely false interpretations of her father and the bitter fatality of her mother, Mariam s father demands she marries a stranger considerably older than her at the age of fifteen. Rasheed prays daily in hopes for Laila to produce a male offspring and is exceedingly unappreciative and disrespectful when Laila produces a female instead. Rasheed and the Talibanclaim it is extremely blasphemous and embarrassing for a married Afghan womanto look directly into a man s eyes, wear makeup, or display her knees so Rasheed asserts Mariam and Laila wear burqas. Women s diminished rights and limited input in society is evident when youthful Mariam unwillingly marries an outright stranger because her father and wives demands she do so. Mariam is in absolute disbelief when Jalil s wives instruct her to marry a forty five year old man immediately while Jalil watches speechlessly and approves of the arranged, instant, forced marriage . After less than a month of living with her father, his wives find the perfect opportunity to remove Mariam from the household which simultaneously abolishes the last trace of her father s scandalous mistake of an affair with his housekeeper, Mariam s mother. Was it lost in details or made subtle, intangible and more convincing? 300 words. The ethical issues manifest in the form of unintentional irony. Bruner remarks in the first half of the movie that she is an agnostic, skeptical woman and does not believe in Father Moore s explanation of the events that have transpired. Later on when she herself experiences some events that veer on the threshold of the supernatural, she decides to prove to the court that Emily in fact was possessed by demons. In the end, failing to produce adequate evidence, she manipulates the jury using Father Moore s background and influences them further by invoking their faith, the faith that she has newly discovered. If the viewers find themselves engaging with the supernatural aspect of the film, they certainly miss the ethical breach that Bruner commits. There are some days that I want to forget because I hated what I did that day, also, there are some days in Columbia that I will never forget. For example, the day I moved was one of the best days of my life because now I don t need to share a room with my brother. Also, seeing all the stuff we have had in his garage that we have had for 14 years. When I was looking at all those stuff it reminded me how special our old house was. One of my personal favorites was when I was in 5th grade. At my school we had something called Safety patrol, and that is where we come before and after school to tell the K 4 to stop running and to walk to the playground or the bus. Usually, after school, I would go to my aunt s work and it would be the best time. I got to see all the different things she does. She gets to see people at the hospital, which I got to do 1 time and the patient was the nicest in the world. She gave me 10 dollars to buy food of my choice and I got a cheeseburger and fries for lunch. Since my aunt and my mom work at the hospital usually after about 20 minutes I would go over to my mom s office and go and finish my homework. Then I and my mom would go home. this really reflected on my life because after going home I learned that even though people are not as safe as other people we can still help them in certain ways. Moving is also one of my favorite things, but the main reason is changing schools. I changed from Lange to Gentry. When I first heard we were moving I was so mad because at Lange I had so many. Some of these rules, stated in 1845, include, the distance between all the bases being ninety feet, and having nine players on each side. No longer would players be plugging runners, but now they would be tagging them with the ball. The rule of forcing a player out at a base was also introduced in 1854. Finally, other rules changed over time such as the length of the game change to nine innings and the distance from the pitchers found to home plate now being sixty feet. Another major landmark in the history of baseball, the invention of the newspaper box score, occurred in 1845 as well. With all these new advances, the game naturally began to spread across the country (32).
