An effective learner uses various strategies to learn, including getting feedback, examples, and help when needed. They are problem solvers who set goals and make connections between ideas, and know how to assess their own learning progress and ask questions when confused. Effective learners support their peers and view challenges and mistakes as opportunities to learn rather than give up. Being "in the pit" means feeling stuck or struggling, but effective learners have plans and strategies to get themselves out of the pit, such as asking for help or using different approaches.
