The missile man of India
6. o A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born in India on October 15,
1931.
o A lifelong scientist, Kalam's prominent role in India's
1998 nuclear weapons tests established him as a
national hero.
o In 2002, India's ruling National Democratic Alliance
helped him win election against the country's former
president, Kocheril Raman Narayanan; Kalam became
India's 11th president, a largely ceremonial post, in
July 2002.
7. Contribution to self
It might well be noted that Dr. Kalam was born to a poor
boatman and his wife at a small village in Chennai called
Rameswaram.
He didn’t have enough resources for a good career still,
with his persistency and a vision for success, he went on
to be called as the “Missile Man of India.”
Rocket Science is the word used as a substitute for
impossible tasks, still he became one of the most
successful Rocket Scientist of India.
8. It should be noted, that Dr. Kalam started work at his
school level, to support his family income. Still with his
consistency he was a excellent student as well.
He even sold newspapers to support his family as he
believed in quality of work rather than believing in the
level of work.
As he says,
9. Contribution to Team/Organization
As good team member, Dr. Kalam showed a great
consistency with his team projects during his college days
at MIT.
Also his team spirit showed wonders at ISRO, where with
his support and contribution to his team working on SLV-
III, they successfully launched Rohini satellite.
Dr. Kalam’s colleagues agreed to his contributor ship to
the organization in his days at ISRO.
10. In one of a rarely known incident, during the launching of
Rohini Satellite, a fire broke out at the testing lab. And Dr.
Kalam without caring about himself, grabbed some
important papers and with his one of his colleagues,
jumped out of the window.
Hence saving both his colleague and some research papers
from the massive blast that took place.
11. Contribution to Society
Kalam served as the 11th President of India, succeeding
K.R Narayan form from 25 July 2002 to 25 July 2007.

as the People's President.
This itself suggests his contribution to people and society.
12. He served the country with complete sincerity throughout
his term as the president of India.
He also gave the society the strength to fight its enemies
in the form of Rohini missiles and Pokhran Nuclear test.
Even after his retirement, he continues to inspire many
people(especially students) to achieve their respective
goals.
He runs an NGO an also active on social network to help
the society with his knowledge and positive thinking!!
We need contributors like him for speedy progress of the
country.
