Summary Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress
In the novel, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, by Dai Sijie, it can be observed that
through another character s perspective as well as their own, Luo and the Seamstress
relationship is less than ideal and what once may have been a whimsical experience would soon
fall from its glorious state. A big indicator of the relationship issues is the Old Miller s point of
view, him being unbiased and just an observer. His use of imagery may symbolize more than
what initially meets the eye, so to speak. The Old Miller relates the Seamstress to a swallow, her
arms as wings and he shows her flying through the air with the other birds, this could show many
different things but to tie all this together it would be best to say that this shows that the Old
Miller sees the Seamstress as a free living and elegant being. He shows her flying above her
surroundings and that seemingly depicts her as a celestial being, above(or better than) this
world in which this takes place. This is contradictory to how the Old Miller views Luo. The
Miller briefly goes over Luo while calling part of him shrunken, and depicting him falling asleep.
At first glance the shrunken comment was very accurate but it may also be to show how much
of opposites Luo and the Seamstress are, what with the Seamstress flying with the birds and Luo
laying on the shore, shrunken. The Old Miller also tells how the Seamstress falls into the water,
her wings, extended, did not fold until she touched the surface of the water and plummeted into
the depths , this not only shows that she can jump into a pool of water but also may give an
unintended representation of the relationship between Luo and the Seamstress. Although this
would be beyond the Miller s knowledge it is possible that Sijie intended this, the Seamstress
being the bird, being swallowed by the water, surrounded in it s embrace. Moreover Luo is
controlling the Seamstress in ways that are unconventional to a good relationship, he trains her to
be civilized and won t let her be herself, sounds like he s enveloping her into his world, much like
the water envelops the Seamstress into itself and pulls her to the depths. The Miller s overseeing
eye may provide an

Comparison of Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs with Skinners Behaviorist Theory The definition of
motivation according to Dictionary.com is: The reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving
in a particular way; the general desire or willingness of someone to do something. Where it gets
confusing is in the reason for behaving a certain way. What is it that causes a person to perform a
task? Is it something that comes from deep inside of the person or is ... Show more content on

Once that need is fulfilled there is no need for the behavior. The criticism for Maslow s theory is
that measurement of satisfaction of needs is impossible and whether people have been devoid of
basic needs, it does not stop them from the pursuit of self actualization. (Heylighen, Francis (1992)
A Cognitive systemic Reconstruction of Maslow s Theory of Self Actualization. P[47]).
Skinner s Behaviorist Theory In comparison, B.F. Skinner s theory is based on operant
conditioning which is a system that is based on rewarding and punishing behavior. Through this
type of system an association is derived from the consequences of the behavior. Behave well,
receive positive consequences, behave badly, and receive negative consequences. Unlike
Maslow, Skinner did not take into consideration internal needs; he believed in only looking at the
external cause of the behavior. In his opinion it was a matter of positive reinforcement, negative
reinforcement, extinction and punishment to explain behavior. Skinner believed positive
reinforcement strengthened behavior. You completed a task that was required you receive a
reward for it. The reward could take any form such as a piece a candy to a bonus for a job well
done. Negative reinforcement also strengthened behavior in reverse. This entails removing a
sanctioned or a penalty once the behavior has changed. For example, a parent has taken away a

The Challenges And Issues Facing Schools
Introduction
The challenges and issues facing schools are becoming more complex subtle to address. There is a
tendency towards school board members seeking to advance personal interests and agendas on the
board s decisions which has enhanced the instances of conflicts of interest and controversial issues
in many schools. The distinction between the roles and responsibilities of the board members from
those of the superintendent has become blurred, making it essential that superintendents make
decisions that enable them survive in their roles. According to the California School Boards
Association, CSBA, (2013), the school board has the responsibility of establishing and adopting
various policies that set the overall direction and vision for district schools. School boards are
involved in strategic planning for the schools, through identification of strategic goals and priorities
for the district, Alberta School Boards Association, ASBA, (n. d). Through various policy
formulations, school boards assert their philosophy by developing various frameworks and
guidelines that steer the school system and actions of its employees.
Decision making in the school district
School boards make various decisions in executing their mandates. They are engaged in gathering,
evaluating and processing information for decision making, while giving due consideration to the
interests of all students. The school board may however make an approval to delegate some of its
tasks to an individual

The Ethics Of The Byu Idaho Sport Organization
This week s reading focused on the topics of organizational theory and the management of sport
organizations along with organizational goals and effectiveness. Through the writings of Slack
and Parent in Understanding Sport Organizations, the aforementioned topics were well versed in
delivering information to be prepared for this reflection. Describe one of the Ways to Look at
Sport Organizations (Chapter 1) using the athletic department described in the case study (or
you can select another sport organization for which you are more familiar)? Over the course of
reading chapter 1, we learned multiple ways to look at sport organizations. With the use of, A
New Collegiate Model, a case study on the intra collegiate athletics at BYU Idaho, I will examine
them based on one of the models from said chapter. Examining the BYU Idaho sport organization
as a culture seemed rather logical to myself. When looking at an organization as a culture, one
needs to view the culture of which the organization is placed in; the culture of the society will more
than likely have an influence on their mode of operation. Slack Parent explained to us that when
studying organizations as cultures, know that they are concerned with the roles leadership plays in
the manifestation of culture. At BYU Idaho, I believe they did a respectable job at delegating roles
in the transition from an intercollegiate to an intra collegiate program. With the discontinuation of
one model to introduce and

Dean trailed in the polls miserably, garnering support that was typically less than the margin of
error. But Dean was a unique candidate. Part of his appeal was that he was not a traditional
polished politician, but was an outsider to the political game. The Dean campaign was not getting
much media coverage (Trippi called them dismissive ). The Dean camp felt the only way to
succeed was to bypass the traditional means of building a campaign and appeal directly to the
American people (Rampton, 2004).
Joe Trippi brought with him a background of working for dot coms in Silicon Valley, giving him
significant exposure to the web. He noticed that while Dean trailed in the polls, the social
networking portal Meetup.com (where users group up on a specific topic and propose meeting
times at local venues) had 432 members for the Howard Dean group, more than any other political
candidate. Trippi put a link to the Meetup.com portal on the Dean campaign site membership leapt
to 2,700, while the next closest Democratic candidate, John Kerry, had only 330 members
(Rampton, 2004). These numbers would continue to grow: in January of 2004, just before the Iowa
caucuses, Dean boasted 177,000 people registered

The Epidemic Of The Nineteenth Century
Introduction The cholera outbreak or the epidemic of the mid nineteenth century was the start of
modern epidemiology. John Snow is considered the father of the modern epidemiology.
Epidemiology is defined as the distribution and determinants of health and diseases, morbidity,
injuries, disability, and mortality in populations. Epidemiological studies are applied to the
control of health problems in populations. (Friis, Epidemiology 101, p. 3). During the mid 1800
s, John Snow revolutionized the epidemiological methods we are currently still using. John
Snow believed that cholera was transmitted by contaminated water and was able to demonstrate
this by mapping out the cases of cholera. Once he mapped out the cases he found that there was a
cluster of cases around the Broad Street pump. The pump was removed after Snow present his
evidence and the cases of cholera started to decline. This is truly remarkable for its time, linking
the contaminate water to increasing cases of cholera at the time and this was all done before the
development of the germ theory and the invention of the microscope. Shortly after the John Snow
s discovery, London started to in placed sewage systems. Sewage systems and treatment are
responsible for providing clean drinkable to people in developed countries. Some developing
countries aren t fortunate enough to have sewage systems and treatments plants making it hard for
their citizens to have access to clean drinkable water. Water is known to be

Mercury Surface Essay
Mercury s surface is covered with impact craters, basaltic rock and smooth plains, many a
consequence of volcanic floods and pyroclastic deposits. Other important features of Mercury
include vents which seem to be the cause of magma carved valleys. They are often grouped
togther in irregular shaped depressions called hollows that are believed to be the aftermath of
collapsed magma chambers, and mineral deposits inside craters at the poles. It was long thought
that Mercury was geologically inactive however new evidence tells us there may be some level of
life. The atmosphere of Venus is primarily carbon dioxide, (96.5%). The remaining 3.5% is
nitrogen. Old evidence suggested sulfuric acid content in the atmosphere, but it is now known...

Earthquakes then trace the trail of the downward moving plate because it descends into layer, a

Monk Warriors from the Heian Period
While many individual monk warriors are still recognized from the Heian period in Japan, the most
notorious amongst them all in Japanese records and literature is Shinjitsu. Regarded as Japan s
number one evil martial monk, 1 Shinjitsu comes across as more of an akuso (evil monk) than the
ultimate representation of the greedy and violent sЕЌhei 2 that previous interpretations and
literature make him out to be. In his book The Teeth and Claws of Buddha, Mikael S. Adolphson
attempts to better classify Shinjitsu as the monk commander and warrior administrator he was, and
it is this new interpretation that makes him so important. Shinjitsu, in historical records, was less
likely to use his monastic position than use his ties in the imperial court and with other nobility to
assert his control, and was in fact involved in the first event of the imperial court calling for help
from monastic troops. Born in 1086, Shinjitsu belonged to a branch of the Minamoto clan, the
Seiwa Genji, who were renowned for their military services and accomplishments. After Shinjitsu s
ancestor Minamoto no Mitsunaka helped the Fujiwara clanstrengthen their position in the imperial
court, members from their branch of the Minamoto family were called the teeth and claws of the
Fujiwara. 3 Shinjitsu s grandfather and father (Yoriyasu) followed in this tradition, and Shinjitsu
seems to have picked up traits from both of them, two of which are made obvious through the
historical records concerning him.

Pros And Cons Of Bangsamoro
To our honourable adjudicators, competitive co debaters, guests, a pleasant morning to everyone.
Compromising peace agreements between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines
and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) may lead to betrayal. Betrayal, in a sense that
the ruling president, which is President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, might put the Bangsamoro people
s life in danger. We all know that President Duterte s decisions when it comes to these kinds of
problems are somewhat diversed. For instance, last November 3, 2016, President Duterte and
MNLF s leader Nur Misuari talked about a Pre Agreement with regards to peace talks. However,
the said agreement between MNLF was later on reclaimed last January 27, 2017, in which the

Social Causes Of Youth Homelessness
On this essay, I am going to write about youth homelessness the causes of this phenomenon in
this country, and why it remains an issue very complex to resolve. There are a number of causes
for youth homelessness but we can divide them into two big groups: Causes derived from social
policies such as lack of funding or cuts to housing benefit; and causes derived from personal
circumstances, for example, a family breakdown.
Both renting and owing a home are challenging options for young people for many reasons
including lack of skills and money; that in some occasions translate not having somewhere to stay.
On the social causes for homelessness we find that one of the biggest issues is the shortage of
housing, the parliament estimates the need for additional housing in England at between
232,000 to 300,000 new units per year, a level not reached since the late 1970s and two to three
times current supply. Even though this does not only affect young people in my opinion young
people are one of the most disadvantaged because the lack of supply makes housing very
expensive and under 25 s get paid less minimum wage so they can t afford to pay a house
deposit. Another important social policy cause is that since April 2017 young people aged 16
21(with some exemptions) will not be entitled to apply for housing benefit a move made by the
government to prevent young people slipping into a life of benefits (HM treasury 2015). However,
this new policy in my point of view just makes the

Narwhal Research Paper
The association of about 20 narwhals or so were just sitting there, dazed, on the wet and slippery
ice. The smaller, younger looking narwhals were bluish and blackish. And the older looking ones
had more snowy white to them. Age differentiation is extremely easy because the growth of the
narwhals was rapidly going from being easily about five feet as young narwhals and about 20
feet that are older. They lazily sat there either eating some fish or taking a daytime nap. Some had
very noticeable tusks, while others didn t. Most people do not know about these animals while, in
fact, they are actually the unicorns of the sea. Narwhals have basic information like all creatures,
and have prey and predators. These mystical creatures have a tooth that was a mystery to many

Like how unicorns are related to horses, narwhals are related to many kinds of whales. Some
included are: bottlenose dolphins, belugas, orcas, and harbor porpoises. These narwhals can
grow rapidly like most kinds of whales. They can grow from being just five feet in length as a
newborn and 17 feet as an adult. Also, newborns weigh from about 175 to 220 pounds. And adults
are usually around 2100 pounds. Age differentiation of narwhals has been easy not just because the
weight and length, but because of their color. Younger narwhals are more gray while adults are
lighter in color. This makes it easy to tell the difference between young and old narwhals. Even
though it is easy to tell the difference between narwhals in itself, narwhals are usually not seen too
often because they do not come too close to the shore. And they can dive down to 5,000 feet.
Though narwhals are interesting, they are threatened by many factors, natural and unnatural

The Long Arm Short Story Analysis
Mary E. Wilkins Freeman s short story The Long Arm is based on the famous Lizzie Borden
narrative, following the prominent story of a daughter being accused of the murder of her miserly
father. Both Lizzie and her fictional counterpart, Sarah Fairbanks, were made to look guilty based
on the destruction (or alteration, in Sarah s case) of a dress that was thought to hold incriminating
evidence. However, they both were acquitted based on a lack of compelling evidence against them.
Despite these similarities, Freeman did change some aspects of the tale in order to provide a
commentary on genderand more closure than the Borden case provided. In the story, Freeman
provided Sarah a love interest (whom her father disapproved of), which offered her an additional
motive. The forlorn lover, Henry, gave authorities another possible suspect in the case. While
there has been some speculation of Lizzie having a secret lover, no theories have been proven,
and certainly no romantic interests were accused of the murders. Another addition to The Long
Arm was a clear confession of guilt at the end of the story, including a clear motive and step by
step depiction of the whole ordeal. Freeman also excluded prominent figures from her version of
the narrative, such as Abby Borden (Lizzie s stepmother and second murder victim), Emma Borden
(Lizzie s older sister), and Bridget (the family maid).
Even though Freeman took some creative liberties in regards to the Borden tragedy, the story shared

A Documentary On Tattoos And How They Affect Human...
I conducted a survey and three interviews to create a documentary on tattoos and how they affect
human relationships and interactions. This paper is an analysis of what it takes to make a
documentary. Documentary originates from the word document which means a film or article that
records factual information. Documentary means to present facts objectively without editing and
adding fictional information (Stott 6). Some of the first documents are from Benjamin Glassberg in
1938 and Saunders Redding 1951 before the word documentary was even created (Stott 6). At first,
a documentary was known as a humandocument because it had emotional ties to the information
though it was factual information (Stott 7). Emotion itself is completely subjective because not
every person in the world will have the same emotion to the same event. Thus giving birth to two
different kinds of documentaries official and human. In 1938, photography was introduced into the
world of documentaries by providing photographic proof of factual information. This brought about
a bigger war between objective and subjective documentaries because along with photos came more
emotion (Stott 11). How could an author of an official documentary choose photos without any
bias? All this information made me want to challenge myself and make an objective documentary
on tattoos. I personally have tattoos and plan on obtaining more so the challenge here is to take
information attained and record it without any of my own

Toys And Gender Stereotypes
Compartmentalization is a process that begins before a person even takes their first breath in this
world. The color of their room is picked out based upon gender as is their clothes, toys, and name
all before they are born. Girls get girl names, girl toys, and other girly things so that they know
what genderthey are, as if it was a hard thing to figure out. The same thing occurs with boys but
young ladies are the ones being held back from aspiring to do big things or really anything other
than cooking and being a mom. This issue is largely due to compartmentalization being that our
entire lives are predetermined by society based on our gender and while many break free from the
stereotypes it is much harder to do so when your entire community... Show more content on

The fashion doll Barbie came into the lives of children everywhere in America in 1959 when the
toy company Mattel Inc. began producing them on a mass scale. These toys would create a huge
gender stereotype at first where Barbies were just being made to look pretty and fashionable, it
was not until later they gave Barbie many versatile roles to inspire girls to be much more than
pretty. Pleasant Company later came out with American Girl in 1986 which were different from
Barbie and typically came with a book. The books usually captured the past in a romanticized
manor and but also had some very empowering messages for girls which was a step in the right
direction. Then Bratz in 2001 made by MGA Entertainment which had an entirely new take on
gender role orientation. Research presented by Karniol, Stuemler Cohen, and Lahav Gur (2012)
suggest that girls gender role orientations have an impact on which doll they prefer. The study
they conducted pertained only to younger girls who explained their preference as to why they
might choose a Bratz doll over a Barbie doll or why they might not even have a preference at all
and how their perception of gender coincides with their choices. Bratz were marketed to teens, or
dolls for tweens, which appealed largely to older girl on their way to becoming teens. In their
research they look at feminine versus masculine traits in the dolls and incorporate how the girls
might associate those traits with the dolls they state that, Feminine girls, who are more gender
stereotyped, would be expected to indicate greater liking of Barbie, which is more stereotypical in
her clothing, coloring, and appearance. (Karniol et al., 2012, p.889). Karinol argued that the doll
that the girls chose would be based off their gender role identity and that by following the four
gender roll orientations: masculine, feminine, undifferentiated, and androgynous she

dilemma of adjusting to, or resisting, the alterations being endorsed within their civilization. It isn

themes found in the piece are still very present within our society today. We are living in a time
where those possessing political power are indeed wandering too far into the religious sector of
America, stripping away freedoms that should belong to the people. Just as Elizabethan England

The Tarzan soundtrack stands out from the rest of the Disney line up as it was the first Disney

to Phil Colins influence on the music and his creation of original songs that shape the world of

Legalizing Drugs And The United States Essay
Legalizing drugs in the United States would lead to great trouble for the country affecting all
citizens. Legalizing drugs will cause chaos among Americans. Edmund Harnett a deputy chief and
executive officer wrote an article, Drug legalization: why it wouldn t work in the United States.
Harnett is also involved in the narcotics division of the New York police department. William J.
Bennett the director of the national drug control policy wrote a heavy article, Drug Policy and the
Intellectuals. James Q. Wilson has a political science degree and is the author of many crime
articles including, Against the Legalization of Drugs. Disorder is the last thing this country needs
from legalizing drugs. The legalization of drugs is undesirable because it would ruin relationships,
would harm the safety of everyone, and would promote violence.
Many people in favor of legalization feel that drugs would not have a negative impact of families
or other relationships. However, All relationships would be in jeopardy if drugs were legalized.
Suffering would be placed on the lives of many family members for their lifetime. Watching a drug
addiction is painful and would most likely cause grief between relationships. Drugs create trust
issues among friends and family. Drugs promote lying and stealing often times for money to
obtain drugs with. Drugs destroy one s character. Drugs take away a person s sense of
responsibility and dignity (Bennett 550). When a person s character is

The Constellation Explosion In Greek Mythology
Sandefur 1
The Constellation Orion
Many of the constellations in the night sky are based on characters in Greek
mythology. Orion is a constellation and he has an interesting story in Greek mythology.
There are numerous versions of the myth of Orion, but one of the more common
stories is that Orion claimed to be the greatest hunter in the world, much to the dismay
of Hera, the wife of Zeus. She had a scorpion kill him, so Zeus put Orion in the sky as a
constellation to honor his fallen son. The scorpion also has a constellation, but cannot
be seen at the same time in the night sky (Zimmerman).
While the name Orion is important in Greek mythology, many cultures have been

Andrew Carnegie, Eugene V. Debs, and Horatio Alger Essay
Andrew Carnegie, Eugene V. Debs, and Horatio Alger
During the late nineteenth century rapid industrialization paved the way for extreme economical
wealth of many business. In accordance with the overflowing wealth in the nineteenth century
many individuals held similar but yet contrasting views toward the wealth that was created in the
United States. Among these individuals were AndrewCarnegie, Eugene V. Debs, and HoratioAlger.
One of the best known philanthropists was the American industrialist Andrew Carnegie, who
devoted the latter part of his life to giving away most of the huge fortune he had amassed in the
steel industry. Following the principles laid down in his essay Gospel of Wealth , Carnegie
returned over $300 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The doctrine specifically advocates nationalization of natural resources, basic industries, banking
and credit facilities, and public utilities. It places special emphasis on the nationalization of
monopolized branches of industry and trade, viewing monopolies as inimical to the public welfare.
Debs attitudes toward the wealth that was create was that the government should redistribute it, so
that everyone could be equal economically. Even though this idea may seem absurd it can be
looked upon as an action of Andrew Carnegie in a less radical form.
Washington differed from both Carnegie and Debs but yet still held one similar aspect that ties him
with them. On September 18, 1895, in Atlanta, Georgia, Washington made his famous compromise
speech. In this address he urged blacks to accept their inferior social position for the present and to
strive to raise themselves through vocational training and economic self reliance. This attitude of
able to achieve economically through hard work contrasts the idea of both Carnegie and Debs.
Carnegie believed in predestined wealth. However Washington s attitude was if one works hard, one
can become rich. It also contrasts Debs attitude because Debs believed in the redistribution of
wealth. However despite theses differences there is one thing that ties them together: the
redistribution of wealth. Washington founded

A Brief Note On The Computerized Patient Record System Essay
Introduction Assessment
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) operates one of the largest nationwide healthcare
systems. (Tsai, 2012). In 1998 the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) was released at a
national level. (Lovis, 2011). CPRS has been made possible because of the extensive set of clinical
and administrative application within VistA.
VistA is the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture. It is VA s Health
Information Technology (IT) system. It provides an integrated inpatient and outpatient electronic
health record for VA patients, and administrative tools to help VA deliver quality medical care to
Veterans. (Lovis, 2011). CPRS organizes and presents all relevant data on a patient to support
clinical decision making. It allows clinicians to interact with the patient s data, add problems,
notes and enter orders. It supports alerts, notification and guidelines. (Lovis, 2011). The adaption
of VistA to CPRS, the new addition to this was My HealtheVet portal. My HealtheVet is a secure
website. The VA follows strict security policies and practices to make sure that your personal
health information is safe and protected. The My HealtheVet Program is based on the core belief
that knowledgeable patients are better able to make informed healthcare choices, stay healthy, and
seek services when needed. The primary goal of the Program is to support veterans as empowered
healthcare consumers with improved quality, access, and

system. In order to simulate the ad hoc network Networks or so called MANET There are many
simulation available networks such as QUALNET , OPENET and NS2 etc[25]. First part of this
section, we will take the overview of all such networks with their usage, advantages and

NS2 is developed as the completely object oriented network simulator by Using the technologies
such as OTcL and CPP. The class hierarchy which is presented in the OTcL and C++ interpreted is
very much supported by the network simulator in which there is one to one mapping in between
compile hierarchy and the class in the interpreted hierarchy .
NS2 contain two types of programming languages used that we have discussed above, such as C

Use C++ : is used for the speed efficiency in the simulation of the networks.
Use OTcl: the reason is that OTcl language is suitable for the programs and configurations which
are demanding for the fast and frequent network changes.
Thus such tool is very flexible for the useNs 2 as it also allows user to existing protocols for their
application simulations as well as to develop their network protocol in order to extend the
functionality of the tool. Network simulator also helps for the performance measurement from the
trace analysis functionality which is very important for the research purposes in order to measure
the efficiency of particular application or particular routing protocol. NS2 is open source and free
software tool which is widely available for downloads from the Internet. It was initially developed

Multicultural Literacy
Discussion When students finish middle school and move to high school, is when they are mostly
likely to drop out of school. Students don t see the point of continuing their education when most of
the time they don t understand or don t relate to the information that is being presented to them.
Most of the time students rather be out in the streets with their peers causing havoc, than being
inside a classroom. Typically, this often occurs in urban areas where the schoolpopulation usually
consists of students with culturally diverse backgrounds. According to the textbook Content Area

Kenneth O Reilly s Racial Matters Essay
Kenneth O Reilly s Racial Matters
In his book Racial Matters, Kenneth O Reilly presented the facts as he sees them, with little
interpretation. He delivered a sharp historical account of the unconstitutional methods the Federal
Bureau of Investigation used to weaken and destroy what it labeled to be subversive groups in
defense of its ideal of America. O Reilly saw the role J. Edgar Hoover played to be essential to the
manner in which the FBI illegally refused to protect Black lives and persecute Black organizations
during the civil rights movement. The events described in Racial Matters, could be prevented in the
future, if people became more aware of the involvement their own government had in the systematic
destruction of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However damaging Hoover was to the civil rights movement, our nation s number one elected
official, the president, aided him in three consecutive terms.
People must critically analyze the events which take place in America and fight against injustice
when they see it. Hoover fought against militant Black groups because they represented a threat to
public safety. However, the rise of such groups as the Black Panther Partywas the direct result of
the perceived, and realistic failure of nonviolent groups, which Hoover was responsible for creating.
The FBI fed internal tensions and rivalries which made it harder for the movement to create a
united front, leaked derogatory information on activists to the media which dissuaded others from
joining, and disseminated derogatory information to federal officials which led to a lessened
commitment to protect civil rights workers (358) This obviously created many problems for the
civil rights struggle. However, the manner in which Hoover treated nonviolent and violent means of
resistance was the same. FBI officials pursued the most prominent proponents of violent resistance
to White racism with the same zeal that had characterized their pursuit of the most prominent
proponent of nonviolence (293). Thus people should have been aware of

The European Union, A Common Currency, The Brexit, And The...
Introduction
The European Union was formed with many expectations. Despite closeness and similarities, the
various nations of the European continent fought bitter wars for thousands of years within
themselves. After the devastating World War II, finally everyone saw the light and decided to give
a chance to a peaceful coexistence. However, the EU s path has not been smooth. Many critical
economic as well as political problems have emerged throughout the last decade, raising questions
about its credibility.
Two primary questions need to be explored here,
1. What are the most serious challenges in front of the EU at present?
2. How are these problems going to affect the credibility of the EU?
In this essay, I argue that the EU has failed, given the controversial issues that arise at present,
namely viability of the Euro as a common currency, the Brexit, and the migrant crisis from the
Middle East.
Euro as a Common Currency
The viability of Euro as a common currency here will explicate the financial crisis in the Eurozone
countries to prove that the EU has failed. Before World War II, doing trade across borders is
difficult. Countries need to pay a fee to exchange currencies, before a tariff fee is then executed
when trade between companies of two different countries are involved. This eventually had stifled
the economic growth. After WWII has ended, the situation among the European countries is so dire
that they have to call for a unification process in order to hasten the

Alienation In Gods And Monsters By Lana Del Rey
For many aspiring people, life tends to be a struggle for happiness. Whether old or young, rich or
poor, timid or bold, people often find themselves pressured by society to change, or else they will
be rejected. Under this overwhelming pressure that one may face at some point in his or her life,
the victim will forcibly conform to the confined margins of popular society the one that states that
everyone must be the same in both mentality and body image. In the song Gods Monsters, Lana
Del Rey emphasizes the importance of self identitythrough her narrative of alienation in
Hollywood. Using an eerie tune with supernatural metaphors relating her life to the evils of
Hollywood, Del Rey ultimately conveys that every life is unique and beautiful. Gods Monsters
was written by Lana Del Rey and released on her album Paradise in late 2012, just as she made
her major debut into the music industry. The alternative pop hit bears an unusually dark
atmosphere and soft spooky vocals from Lana Del Rey. The song emphasizes an early struggle of
isolation that Lana faced as she was gaining weight in the music industry. In 2014, Gods Monsters

Discussing Critically Religious and Secular Ethical Arguments About Environmental Issues
In his book, The End Of Nature , Bill McKibben highlights the fact that we are destroying the
natural environment at an increasing rate, for our own short term gain. Since the day that man
created agriculture, and industrialisation to follow, the imbalance between man and nature has been
growing[1/2]. This has been accompanied by a massive population increase, tripling in the
twentieth century alone[3]. Human pressure on nature has never been so great. Such pressure has
resulted in environmental issues , ranging from global warming and eutrophication, to the depletion

These are things such as the right to life, freedom of speech, and equality[4]. This tends to be where
the unanimity of opinion ends, some may then consider animal rights, and more extremely, the
rights of non sentient beings like plants, or even inanimate entities, such as rocks.
Views towards ecology on the basis of rights can be separated into deep ecology and shallow
ecology , distinguished by the Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess[5]. Quite broadly, shallow
ecology dictates that only human beings have rights, other organisms and the environment itself do
not. Deep ecology believes that this is not so, and that animals and the natural world do have rights.
Shallow ecology is anthropocentric, maintaining that the environment should be handled in
whichever way is most beneficial to humankind. No value is placed in the existence of non human
animals, other organisms, and the environment, further than their instrumental use to us.
Shallow ecologists would argue strongly against the idea of inanimate entities such as mountains
and other ecosystems having rights or interests . However, regardless of whether the mountain itself
is able to be interested in its own continued existence, it sustains a great number

Heydrich s Accomplishments
Heydrich slowly rose to power with his strong determination and ruthlessness. He first joined the
Nazi party with an organization of elites who were only selected for their racial attributes. He
started out as an intelligence collector for an organization known as the SS (Security Service).
He worked day in and day out to recover lost intelligence and gain more about the enemy. With
his hard work, he eventually organized a big network of spies who wrote down anything on
anyone who might pose a threat to Hitler. Heydrich s persistence pushed him high up the ranks of
the SS until he was finally appointed SS Brigadier General, one of the very few generals younger

endlessly to encourage pro Nazi sabotage and attacks in Austria. Because of his vicious hate for
the Jews, Heydrich organized the Gestapo Office of Emigration. This permitted Jews to leave
Austria but at a cost of most of their life possessions. More than a hundred thousand Jews left
Austria but at a severe cost to themselves or their family (Curry).
Two years later, Heydrich was given control of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, the
Reich s most important centers of industry. Shortly, however, he went back to Berlin to take care of
some unfinished business (Curry). He had finally decided with other members of the Nazi party, the

Black Hat or Devil s Advocate Process
The best solution to the dissatisfaction that is caused when a title is held and not sent to the
payoff dealer in a timely manner is to create a dealer notification process. This process will consist
of contacting the dealer by phone, email or fax to notify them of the accounts that have a title on
hold for missing odometer statement. The solution should be implemented because it is quick to
implement, will have a low cost to implement and will have a big impact on the issue. If the
dealers are notified as soon as the title is placed on hold they can fax or email the odometer to the
Title Services and Support department immediately. The Title Services and Support department will
be able to deliver the title to the dealer a timely manner.
If this solution is implemented one impact that could go wrong is that the dealers could become
frustrated with BMW Financial Services if the Title Services and Support department does not
notify them of an account that is on hold or the dealer could become frustrated if the Title Services
and Support department contacts them to many times about an account that is on hold. A weakness
and risk of the solution are keeping the BMW dealer group contact information up to date. The Title
Services and Support department will need to be in constant communication with the BMW Group
dealers to ensure they are calling, emailing or faxing the request for odometer statements to the
correct contact.

The first motion poster is focused on scenes 1 and 2 of the storyboard. In scene 1, the dome that

The knight shows his true chivric colors by saying My lady and my love, my dearest wife, I leave
the matter to your wise decision. (406 407) By allowing his wife to chose for him he displays true
chivalry. He is also allowing to choose what she wants for her husband; this is a recall to the answer
she gave him to save his life.
The knight in the Wife of Bath s tale doesn t display chivalry by his actions of violating an innocent
woman and continues to dishonor this code by being deeming and crass to an old woman who
helps save his life yet at the end allows the old woman to make a decision regarding his life.
Chivalry is a code of conduct on how to treat and respect women. Raping a young madden is
probably back in the medieval ages illegal and against the code of chivalry for a knight. Chivalry is
also a way of how to behave, when acting rudely towards the old woman he breaks that code,
even if it was not direct to her face. At the end we see the knight finally display chivalry by
allowing the old woman to decide his fate and because he was chivric he got what he truly

Battle of Chaeronea
The battle of Chaeronea is considered one of the most decisive in the ancient world. The armies of
Athens and Thebes were annihilated and could not continue their resistance, so the war came to an
abrupt end. It is famous for its historical importance as a fundamental fact for the beginning of the

The Importance Of Traveling
You worked really hard to get your miles and points in the bank. Don t let that potential vacation
currency go to waste. Here are some helpful tips to keep your miles from expiring.
Below the useful tips is a table with the major airline and hotel expiration deadlines.
Know The Expiration Dates
Each frequent flyer program has slightly different rules for when their miles expire. For some
international airlines, it can be up to 3 years. For most programs in the US, accounts expire after 18
months of inactivity.
This means that if you let your miles account sit for 18 months, and neither earn nor redeem a
mile, you will lose them all. And this seems to take people by surprise pretty frequently. Points

But it makes sense to link your cards to a dining program, like Rewards Network. It s always a nice
surprise to get an email that you ve earned miles after eating at a random cafe in a town you ve
never been to before. This free option is worth signing up for.
Move points around
For the most part, you can t transfer points between airlines. You can also transfer points from Bank
Rewards credit cards to airlines.
If you have credit card points through American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate
Rewards, or Citi ThankYou cards, you can transfer those points to selected airline partners.
Members of the Starwood Preferred Guest program can transfer points to over a dozen different
airlines. That s the benefit of a flexible and transferable points programs.
In most cases you ll need to transfer a minimum of 1,000 points. Although Starwood Preferred
Guests Platinum members can transfer as little as one point to an airline program.
Some airlines also allow you to donate a handful of miles to charity, which can be a good option in
a pinch. You can also move miles between one person s account to another.
Keep in mind, some airlines charge a transfer fee this. Not the best option.
Buy Miles
When I was in a pinch a few years ago, I bought a 1,000 miles to keep the loyalty account active.
This was in my novice days when I was still learning. Although spending $15 to reset the clock
seemed like a good idea at the time, there are other

General Circulation
General Circulation
Warm air rises and cool air sinks, or subsides. If the Earth had no continents and did not turn, then
the circulation of the atmosphere would appear much like this.
[pic] http://maritime.haifa.ac.il/departm/lessons/ocean/lect14.htm The air at the Equator would be
heated by the warm Earth and so rise, flow toward the poles where it is cooled by the cold Earth,
subside at the North Pole and South Pole, and then flow back to the Equator along the surface of the
Earth.
But the Earth does have continents and it does spin on its axis, so the General Circulation of the
atmosphere actually looks more like the images on the next page. These are sometimes referred to
as the three cell general circulation model. Air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The winds in this region are called the tropical easterlies. In the Northern Hemisphere, these are
called the Northeast Trade Winds, and in the Southern Hemisphere, they are called the Southeast
Trade Winds. A band of generally high pressure near 30( North and South of the Equator is called
the Subtropical High.
The band of high pressure near 30( latitude is also called the Horse Latitudes. The name Horse
Latitudes is thought to have originated in the seventeenth century, when sailing ships were
carrying cargos of horses to the West Indies. With high pressure and good weather, the ships
could be stranded for days or weeks without winds to propel them toward their destination. Horses
died for lack of food and water waiting for winds to move the ships.
The middle latitude prevailing westerly cells are called the Ferrel Cell. It is named after William
Ferrel, and American scientist who published his Essay on the Winds and Currents of the Ocean in
1856. In this essay and later papers, he showed by rigorous mathematics that winds are affected by
the rotation of the Earth.
The cells near the North Pole and South Pole, in which the winds are mostly from the east, are
called the Polar Cell. The winds are called the polar easterlies. A band of generally low pressure
between the Ferrel Cell and the Polar Cell in the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern
Hemisphere is

Behind The Bedroom Wall Discrimination
There Is Only One Race, And That Is Human
There should be no discrimination against languages people speak, skin color, or religion.
Discrimination has been a problem for centuries, but just because your a different race or
nationality doesn t mean we are different. There is only one race, and that is human. The text,
Behind the Bedroom Wall talks about a girl named Korinna who is growing up during the
holocaust. She has been taught that the Jews are enemies and that she should not go near them.
When she finds out her parents have been hiding Jews behind her bedroom wall she has choose
between what she has been taught or what she knows is right and what she believes in. The text,

Even though her sample size was not representative of the whole population it was enough to
determine that the main reason why black students are starting to do homeschool is because of
racism. Many black parents describe the white teachers through negative commentary due to their
children being discriminated. There are many white children who have grown up around
stereotypes, just like Korinna in the book Behind The Bedroom Wall. They have been taught to stay
away or bully black children. In the Washington Posts article, Racism in schools is pushing more
black families to homeschool their children the text states, Furthermore, the attitudes and actions of
white teachers (who make up 85 percent of all public school teachers) were questioned by many of
the African American parents with whom I spoke. They consistently portrayed white teachers as
overly critical, unresponsive, unqualified, insensitive, offensive, mean, hypocritical, and using
double standards. Parents of black students are noticing changes in their children s behaviors.
Research shows that many black students are coming home, crying, due to discrimination. This is
the reason that black students are starting to be homeschooled. Further in to the article the text
mentions, Certainly, the parents I interviewed were very much aware of and concerned about the

Class Reflection Paper
Entry #1
Once, in fifth grade, my teacher, let s just call her Ms. A, for some reason, chose me as
valedictorian of my class. I honestly don t know why though. Sure I was really nice to everyone
and I had pretty good (but not perfect) grades in most subjects but I was one of the quietest people
in the class. At first, I didn t want anything to do with it because being valedictorian meant
giving a huge speech in front of the principal, assistant principals, fellow fifth graders, family,
and siblings in the school. I had never spoken or given a speech in front of a small class before,
let alone a huge crowd! If you had put me on a stage with no rehearsal or anything, I d either
freeze or hide behind the curtains. The most I d ever done before was some fun dance
performances in the yearly concerts, a talent show that I joined that year with my friends, and
Dance Club which I was chosen for some random reason. But anyway, Ms. A made me write a
page long speech, which I was okay with since I like writing. Afterwards, she made me go out to
the hall to read my speech to a small group of classmates. I can t remind who they were exactly
but I know that one of them was my good friend, Joy. I didn t really know them all that well so
the second I got outside I was super scared and made up some excuse to use the bathroom (which
I did do it wasn t a complete excuse). I was taking my time washing my hands so when I finally
left the bathroom, Joy was about to come in. She said something

Base Jumping Is Becoming Known As One Of The Most Extreme...
Base jumping is becoming known as one of the most extreme sports the world knows. To
successfully BASE jump one must bound from an exit point , and free fall from very high
places. People say it s too dangerous, and should be outlawed completely. On the other hand,
people like the late Dean Potter used to successfully jump with his dog in a backpack as he would
leap off cliffs falling as much as 3000 feet towards the ground. BASE jumpingis amazing, and isn t
for everyone, but it should at the least remain someone s choice to do it or not in my opinion.
Its known as BASE jumping, and BASE is an acronym that stands for buildings, antennae, spans,
and earth such as cliffs and mountains (Tara L. Allman). These are all places BASE jumpers
hurdle from. They go to these places to perform their sport, leaping off into the void and free
falling. Before smashing into the ground, they deploy their parachute. There is a high likelihood you
will die if you make any mistakes. So you are effectively saving your own life every time you do
it. Simple right? Not by a long shot. This sport is a huge undertaking. You start off a student, and
only after years learning under a mentor, do you get to wear the invisible badge of BASE
Jumper. BASE jumping is widely viewed by the public as dangerous and too risky. In many
countries and states of the US, BASE jumping is illegal. In addition, not only is the act of jumping
illegal, but BASE jumpers are often trespassing on someone s property to

  • 2. Summary Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress In the novel, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, by Dai Sijie, it can be observed that through another character s perspective as well as their own, Luo and the Seamstress relationship is less than ideal and what once may have been a whimsical experience would soon fall from its glorious state. A big indicator of the relationship issues is the Old Miller s point of view, him being unbiased and just an observer. His use of imagery may symbolize more than what initially meets the eye, so to speak. The Old Miller relates the Seamstress to a swallow, her arms as wings and he shows her flying through the air with the other birds, this could show many different things but to tie all this together it would be best to say that this shows that the Old Miller sees the Seamstress as a free living and elegant being. He shows her flying above her surroundings and that seemingly depicts her as a celestial being, above(or better than) this world in which this takes place. This is contradictory to how the Old Miller views Luo. The Miller briefly goes over Luo while calling part of him shrunken, and depicting him falling asleep. At first glance the shrunken comment was very accurate but it may also be to show how much of opposites Luo and the Seamstress are, what with the Seamstress flying with the birds and Luo laying on the shore, shrunken. The Old Miller also tells how the Seamstress falls into the water, her wings, extended, did not fold until she touched the surface of the water and plummeted into the depths , this not only shows that she can jump into a pool of water but also may give an unintended representation of the relationship between Luo and the Seamstress. Although this would be beyond the Miller s knowledge it is possible that Sijie intended this, the Seamstress being the bird, being swallowed by the water, surrounded in it s embrace. Moreover Luo is controlling the Seamstress in ways that are unconventional to a good relationship, he trains her to be civilized and won t let her be herself, sounds like he s enveloping her into his world, much like the water envelops the Seamstress into itself and pulls her to the depths. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once that need is fulfilled there is no need for the behavior. The criticism for Maslow s theory is that measurement of satisfaction of needs is impossible and whether people have been devoid of basic needs, it does not stop them from the pursuit of self actualization. (Heylighen, Francis (1992) A Cognitive systemic Reconstruction of Maslow s Theory of Self Actualization. P[47]). Skinner s Behaviorist Theory In comparison, B.F. Skinner s theory is based on operant conditioning which is a system that is based on rewarding and punishing behavior. Through this type of system an association is derived from the consequences of the behavior. Behave well, receive positive consequences, behave badly, and receive negative consequences. Unlike Maslow, Skinner did not take into consideration internal needs; he believed in only looking at the external cause of the behavior. In his opinion it was a matter of positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, extinction and punishment to explain behavior. Skinner believed positive reinforcement strengthened behavior. You completed a task that was required you receive a reward for it. The reward could take any form such as a piece a candy to a bonus for a job well done. Negative reinforcement also strengthened behavior in reverse. This entails removing a sanctioned or a penalty once the behavior has changed. For example, a parent has taken away a ... There is a tendency towards school board members seeking to advance personal interests and agendas on the board s decisions which has enhanced the instances of conflicts of interest and controversial issues in many schools. The Ethics Of The Byu Idaho Sport Organization This week s reading focused on the topics of organizational theory and the management of sport organizations along with organizational goals and effectiveness. Through the writings of Slack and Parent in Understanding Sport Organizations, the aforementioned topics were well versed in delivering information to be prepared for this reflection. Describe one of the Ways to Look at Sport Organizations (Chapter 1) using the athletic department described in the case study (or you can select another sport organization for which you are more familiar)? Over the course of reading chapter 1, we learned multiple ways to look at sport organizations. With the use of, A New Collegiate Model, a case study on the intra collegiate athletics at BYU Idaho, I will examine them based on one of the models from said chapter. Examining the BYU Idaho sport organization as a culture seemed rather logical to myself. When looking at an organization as a culture, one needs to view the culture of which the organization is placed in; the culture of the society will more than likely have an influence on their mode of operation. Slack Parent explained to us that when studying organizations as cultures, know that they are concerned with the roles leadership plays in the manifestation of culture. At BYU Idaho, I believe they did a respectable job at delegating roles in the transition from an intercollegiate to an intra collegiate program. With the discontinuation of one model to introduce and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Epidemic Of The Nineteenth Century Introduction The cholera outbreak or the epidemic of the mid nineteenth century was the start of modern epidemiology. John Snow is considered the father of the modern epidemiology. Epidemiology is defined as the distribution and determinants of health and diseases, morbidity, injuries, disability, and mortality in populations. Epidemiological studies are applied to the control of health problems in populations. (Friis, Epidemiology 101, p. 3). During the mid 1800 s, John Snow revolutionized the epidemiological methods we are currently still using. John Snow believed that cholera was transmitted by contaminated water and was able to demonstrate this by mapping out the cases of cholera. Once he mapped out the cases he found that there was a cluster of cases around the Broad Street pump. The pump was removed after Snow present his evidence and the cases of cholera started to decline. This is truly remarkable for its time, linking the contaminate water to increasing cases of cholera at the time and this was all done before the development of the germ theory and the invention of the microscope. Shortly after the John Snow s discovery, London started to in placed sewage systems. Sewage systems and treatment are responsible for providing clean drinkable to people in developed countries. Monk Warriors from the Heian Period While many individual monk warriors are still recognized from the Heian period in Japan, the most notorious amongst them all in Japanese records and literature is Shinjitsu. Regarded as Japan s number one evil martial monk, 1 Shinjitsu comes across as more of an akuso (evil monk) than the ultimate representation of the greedy and violent sЕЌhei 2 that previous interpretations and literature make him out to be. In his book The Teeth and Claws of Buddha, Mikael S. Adolphson attempts to better classify Shinjitsu as the monk commander and warrior administrator he was, and it is this new interpretation that makes him so important. Shinjitsu, in historical records, was less likely to use his monastic position than use his ties in the imperial court and with other nobility to assert his control, and was in fact involved in the first event of the imperial court calling for help from monastic troops. Born in 1086, Shinjitsu belonged to a branch of the Minamoto clan, the Seiwa Genji, who were renowned for their military services and accomplishments. After Shinjitsu s ancestor Minamoto no Mitsunaka helped the Fujiwara clanstrengthen their position in the imperial court, members from their branch of the Minamoto family were called the teeth and claws of the Fujiwara. 3 Shinjitsu s grandfather and father (Yoriyasu) followed in this tradition, and Shinjitsu seems to have picked up traits from both of them, two of which are made obvious through the historical records concerning him. ... • 11. Social Causes Of Youth Homelessness On this essay, I am going to write about youth homelessness the causes of this phenomenon in this country, and why it remains an issue very complex to resolve. There are a number of causes for youth homelessness but we can divide them into two big groups: Causes derived from social policies such as lack of funding or cuts to housing benefit; and causes derived from personal circumstances, for example, a family breakdown. Both renting and owing a home are challenging options for young people for many reasons including lack of skills and money; that in some occasions translate not having somewhere to stay. On the social causes for homelessness we find that one of the biggest issues is the shortage of housing, the parliament estimates the need for additional housing in England at between 232,000 to 300,000 new units per year, a level not reached since the late 1970s and two to three times current supply. Even though this does not only affect young people in my opinion young people are one of the most disadvantaged because the lack of supply makes housing very expensive and under 25 s get paid less minimum wage so they can t afford to pay a house deposit. Another important social policy cause is that since April 2017 young people aged 16 21(with some exemptions) will not be entitled to apply for housing benefit a move made by the government to prevent young people slipping into a life of benefits (HM treasury 2015). However, this new policy in my point of view just makes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Long Arm Short Story Analysis Mary E. Wilkins Freeman s short story The Long Arm is based on the famous Lizzie Borden narrative, following the prominent story of a daughter being accused of the murder of her miserly father. Both Lizzie and her fictional counterpart, Sarah Fairbanks, were made to look guilty based on the destruction (or alteration, in Sarah s case) of a dress that was thought to hold incriminating evidence. However, they both were acquitted based on a lack of compelling evidence against them. Despite these similarities, Freeman did change some aspects of the tale in order to provide a commentary on genderand more closure than the Borden case provided. In the story, Freeman provided Sarah a love interest (whom her father disapproved of), which offered her an additional motive. The forlorn lover, Henry, gave authorities another possible suspect in the case. While there has been some speculation of Lizzie having a secret lover, no theories have been proven, and certainly no romantic interests were accused of the murders. Another addition to The Long Arm was a clear confession of guilt at the end of the story, including a clear motive and step by step depiction of the whole ordeal. Freeman also excluded prominent figures from her version of the narrative, such as Abby Borden (Lizzie s stepmother and second murder victim), Emma Borden (Lizzie s older sister), and Bridget (the family maid). • 14. A Documentary On Tattoos And How They Affect Human... I conducted a survey and three interviews to create a documentary on tattoos and how they affect human relationships and interactions. This paper is an analysis of what it takes to make a documentary. Documentary originates from the word document which means a film or article that records factual information. Documentary means to present facts objectively without editing and adding fictional information (Stott 6). Some of the first documents are from Benjamin Glassberg in 1938 and Saunders Redding 1951 before the word documentary was even created (Stott 6). At first, a documentary was known as a humandocument because it had emotional ties to the information though it was factual information (Stott 7). Emotion itself is completely subjective because not every person in the world will have the same emotion to the same event. Thus giving birth to two different kinds of documentaries official and human. In 1938, photography was introduced into the world of documentaries by providing photographic proof of factual information. This brought about a bigger war between objective and subjective documentaries because along with photos came more emotion (Stott 11). How could an author of an official documentary choose photos without any bias? All this information made me want to challenge myself and make an objective documentary on tattoos. I personally have tattoos and plan on obtaining more so the challenge here is to take information attained and record it without any of my own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though this idea may seem absurd it can be looked upon as an action of Andrew Carnegie in a less radical form. Washington differed from both Carnegie and Debs but yet still held one similar aspect that ties him with them. On September 18, 1895, in Atlanta, Georgia, Washington made his famous compromise speech. In this address he urged blacks to accept their inferior social position for the present and to strive to raise themselves through vocational training and economic self reliance. This attitude of able to achieve economically through hard work contrasts the idea of both Carnegie and Debs. Carnegie believed in predestined wealth. • 26. A Brief Note On The Computerized Patient Record System Essay Introduction Assessment The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) operates one of the largest nationwide healthcare systems. (Tsai, 2012). In 1998 the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) was released at a national level. (Lovis, 2011). CPRS has been made possible because of the extensive set of clinical and administrative application within VistA. VistA is the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture. It is VA s Health Information Technology (IT) system. It provides an integrated inpatient and outpatient electronic health record for VA patients, and administrative tools to help VA deliver quality medical care to Veterans. (Lovis, 2011). CPRS organizes and presents all relevant data on a patient to support clinical decision making. It allows clinicians to interact with the patient s data, add problems, notes and enter orders. It supports alerts, notification and guidelines. (Lovis, 2011). The adaption of VistA to CPRS, the new addition to this was My HealtheVet portal. My HealtheVet is a secure website. The VA follows strict security policies and practices to make sure that your personal health information is safe and protected. The My HealtheVet Program is based on the core belief that knowledgeable patients are better able to make informed healthcare choices, stay healthy, and seek services when needed. He delivered a sharp historical account of the unconstitutional methods the Federal Bureau of Investigation used to weaken and destroy what it labeled to be subversive groups in defense of its ideal of America. O Reilly saw the role J. Edgar Hoover played to be essential to the manner in which the FBI illegally refused to protect Black lives and persecute Black organizations during the civil rights movement. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However damaging Hoover was to the civil rights movement, our nation s number one elected official, the president, aided him in three consecutive terms. People must critically analyze the events which take place in America and fight against injustice when they see it. Hoover fought against militant Black groups because they represented a threat to public safety. However, the rise of such groups as the Black Panther Partywas the direct result of the perceived, and realistic failure of nonviolent groups, which Hoover was responsible for creating. The FBI fed internal tensions and rivalries which made it harder for the movement to create a united front, leaked derogatory information on activists to the media which dissuaded others from joining, and disseminated derogatory information to federal officials which led to a lessened commitment to protect civil rights workers (358) This obviously created many problems for the civil rights struggle. However, the manner in which Hoover treated nonviolent and violent means of resistance was the same. Despite closeness and similarities, the various nations of the European continent fought bitter wars for thousands of years within themselves. After the devastating World War II, finally everyone saw the light and decided to give a chance to a peaceful coexistence. However, the EU s path has not been smooth. Many critical economic as well as political problems have emerged throughout the last decade, raising questions about its credibility. Two primary questions need to be explored here, 1. What are the most serious challenges in front of the EU at present? 2. How are these problems going to affect the credibility of the EU? In this essay, I argue that the EU has failed, given the controversial issues that arise at present, namely viability of the Euro as a common currency, the Brexit, and the migrant crisis from the Middle East. Euro as a Common Currency The viability of Euro as a common currency here will explicate the financial crisis in the Eurozone countries to prove that the EU has failed. Before World War II, doing trade across borders is difficult. Countries need to pay a fee to exchange currencies, before a tariff fee is then executed when trade between companies of two different countries are involved. This eventually had stifled the economic growth. Whether old or young, rich or poor, timid or bold, people often find themselves pressured by society to change, or else they will be rejected. Under this overwhelming pressure that one may face at some point in his or her life, the victim will forcibly conform to the confined margins of popular society the one that states that everyone must be the same in both mentality and body image. In the song Gods Monsters, Lana Del Rey emphasizes the importance of self identitythrough her narrative of alienation in Hollywood. Using an eerie tune with supernatural metaphors relating her life to the evils of Hollywood, Del Rey ultimately conveys that every life is unique and beautiful. Gods Monsters was written by Lana Del Rey and released on her album Paradise in late 2012, just as she made her major debut into the music industry. The alternative pop hit bears an unusually dark atmosphere and soft spooky vocals from Lana Del Rey. Views towards ecology on the basis of rights can be separated into deep ecology and shallow ecology , distinguished by the Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess[5]. Quite broadly, shallow ecology dictates that only human beings have rights, other organisms and the environment itself do not. Shallow ecology is anthropocentric, maintaining that the environment should be handled in whichever way is most beneficial to humankind. These are sometimes referred to as the three cell general circulation model. Air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The winds in this region are called the tropical easterlies. In the Northern Hemisphere, these are called the Northeast Trade Winds, and in the Southern Hemisphere, they are called the Southeast Trade Winds. A band of generally high pressure near 30( North and South of the Equator is called the Subtropical High. The band of high pressure near 30( latitude is also called the Horse Latitudes. The name Horse Latitudes is thought to have originated in the seventeenth century, when sailing ships were carrying cargos of horses to the West Indies. With high pressure and good weather, the ships could be stranded for days or weeks without winds to propel them toward their destination. Horses died for lack of food and water waiting for winds to move the ships. The middle latitude prevailing westerly cells are called the Ferrel Cell. It is named after William Ferrel, and American scientist who published his Essay on the Winds and Currents of the Ocean in 1856. In this essay and later papers, he showed by rigorous mathematics that winds are affected by the rotation of the Earth. The cells near the North Pole and South Pole, in which the winds are mostly from the east, are called the Polar Cell. The winds are called the polar easterlies. • 46. Behind The Bedroom Wall Discrimination There Is Only One Race, And That Is Human There should be no discrimination against languages people speak, skin color, or religion. Discrimination has been a problem for centuries, but just because your a different race or nationality doesn t mean we are different. There is only one race, and that is human. The text, Behind the Bedroom Wall talks about a girl named Korinna who is growing up during the holocaust. She has been taught that the Jews are enemies and that she should not go near them. When she finds out her parents have been hiding Jews behind her bedroom wall she has choose between what she has been taught or what she knows is right and what she believes in. The text, Racism in schools is pushing more black families to homeschool ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though her sample size was not representative of the whole population it was enough to determine that the main reason why black students are starting to do homeschool is because of racism. Many black parents describe the white teachers through negative commentary due to their children being discriminated. There are many white children who have grown up around stereotypes, just like Korinna in the book Behind The Bedroom Wall. They have been taught to stay away or bully black children. In the Washington Posts article, Racism in schools is pushing more black families to homeschool their children the text states, Furthermore, the attitudes and actions of white teachers (who make up 85 percent of all public school teachers) were questioned by many of the African American parents with whom I spoke. They consistently portrayed white teachers as overly critical, unresponsive, unqualified, insensitive, offensive, mean, hypocritical, and using double standards. Parents of black students are noticing changes in their children s behaviors. Research shows that many black students are coming home, crying, due to discrimination. This is the reason that black students are starting to be homeschooled. Further in to the article the text mentions, Certainly, the parents I interviewed were very much aware of and concerned about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Class Reflection Paper Entry #1 Once, in fifth grade, my teacher, let s just call her Ms. A, for some reason, chose me as valedictorian of my class. I honestly don t know why though. Sure I was really nice to everyone and I had pretty good (but not perfect) grades in most subjects but I was one of the quietest people in the class. At first, I didn t want anything to do with it because being valedictorian meant giving a huge speech in front of the principal, assistant principals, fellow fifth graders, family, and siblings in the school. I had never spoken or given a speech in front of a small class before, let alone a huge crowd! If you had put me on a stage with no rehearsal or anything, I d either freeze or hide behind the curtains. The most I d ever done before was some fun dance performances in the yearly concerts, a talent show that I joined that year with my friends, and Dance Club which I was chosen for some random reason. But anyway, Ms. A made me write a page long speech, which I was okay with since I like writing. Afterwards, she made me go out to the hall to read my speech to a small group of classmates. I can t remind who they were exactly but I know that one of them was my good friend, Joy. I didn t really know them all that well so the second I got outside I was super scared and made up some excuse to use the bathroom (which I did do it wasn t a complete excuse). I was taking my time washing my hands so when I finally left the bathroom, Joy was about to come in. She said something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Base Jumping Is Becoming Known As One Of The Most Extreme... Base jumping is becoming known as one of the most extreme sports the world knows. To successfully BASE jump one must bound from an exit point , and free fall from very high places. People say it s too dangerous, and should be outlawed completely. On the other hand, people like the late Dean Potter used to successfully jump with his dog in a backpack as he would leap off cliffs falling as much as 3000 feet towards the ground. BASE jumpingis amazing, and isn t for everyone, but it should at the least remain someone s choice to do it or not in my opinion. Its known as BASE jumping, and BASE is an acronym that stands for buildings, antennae, spans, and earth such as cliffs and mountains (Tara L. Allman). These are all places BASE jumpers hurdle from. They go to these places to perform their sport, leaping off into the void and free falling. Before smashing into the ground, they deploy their parachute. There is a high likelihood you will die if you make any mistakes. So you are effectively saving your own life every time you do it. Simple right? Not by a long shot. This sport is a huge undertaking. You start off a student, and only after years learning under a mentor, do you get to wear the invisible badge of BASE Jumper. BASE jumping is widely viewed by the public as dangerous and too risky. In many countries and states of the US, BASE jumping is illegal. In addition, not only is the act of jumping illegal, but BASE jumpers are often trespassing on someone s property to ...
