Bladder irrigation is a procedure to wash out the inside of the bladder with normal saline to prevent blood clot formation, allow free flow of urine, and maintain the patency of an indwelling catheter. The irrigation continuously washes the bladder with saline to achieve these goals and improve catheter function.
