1. MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE ADVERTISMENT PAGE CODES AND CONVENTIONS
For my research of the contents page of my magazine I first researched regional magazines and
then, because I want my magazine to be a fashion magazine, I also researched famous fashion
magazines like Vogue and Elle. By combining the codes and conventions from both magazines I
hope to create the best possible outcome for my magazine.

2. MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE ADVERTISMENT PAGE CODES AND CONVENTIONS
Kent Life
Pictures - Insight in the article, makes you
want to read about it, high key lighting.
Aesthetically pleasing to look at.
Name of the magazine is the largest text on
the page. Has the month and web address
below it.
People who help to make the magazines
contact details below it. This is not a
convention I have seen before.
Small titles at the top organising the articles
and making them easier to read and find.
Numbers - All the articles are numbered
making it easy to find things and creates
order.
Colour - On a white background with black
text making it easy to read.

3. MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE ADVERTISMENT PAGE CODES AND CONVENTIONS
Essex Life
Pictures - Shows whats inside the article.
Interesting to look at.
Title - The name of the article is placed on
the page in large font but the ‘Contents’ is
also very large.
Creators of the magazine on the right hand
side with contact details below it.
Small titles at the top organising the articles
and making them easier to read and find. In
sans serif font with text in a serif font below.
Numbers - Numbers placed next to the titles
and also large on the pages to help the
reader guid themselves round the magazine.
Colour - On a white background with black
text making it easy to read.

Isle Magazine
Pictures - Snapshots of whats inside the
magazine, makes the page easy to look at and is
interesting.
Title - The logo of the magazine in the corner is
the larger don't on the page.
Text - Small titles at the top organising the articles
and making them easier to read and find in the
magazine.
Numbers - Numbers placed next to the titles -
very large so they stand out and are easy to read.
Colour - Majority a white background but a lot of
colour is added to it.
Put into columns to help create order and make it
easier to read.

5. MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE ADVERTISMENT PAGE CODES AND CONVENTIONS
Bristol Magazine
Pictures - Placed neatly around each other.
Insight into the articles.
Date is the largest font on the page. Helps the
readers keep order.
Text - Small titles of the articles in the magazine,
gives an insight so makes the readers want to
read on.
Numbers - Numbers placed next to the text. Large
ones on the picture to link the photos to the
articles.
Colour - A white background helps the pictures
and text to stand out.
Put into columns to help create order and make it
easier to read.
Information about the cover in the corner.

Northern Life
Pictures - In the centre of the page - eyes
are instantly drawn to it. Insight into the
magazine.
Title - Contents is in an unusual font. Stands
out, has the date below it
Creators of the magazine on the right hand
side with contact details below it.
Small titles at the top organising the articles
and making them easier to read and find. In
sans serif font with text in a serif font below.
Numbers - Numbers placed next to the titles
and also large on the pages to help the
reader guid themselves round the magazine.
Colour - On a white background with black
text making it easy to read.

7. MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE ADVERTISMENT PAGE CODES AND CONVENTIONS
Elle
Pictures - All around the edge of the page, fits
a pink tonnes colour scheme. The pictures are
relative to the articles inside the magazine and
have small page numbers at the bottom.
Title - The magazines logo is the largest on the
page, helps to create brand recognition.
Small titles giving insight about the articles in a
different colour which is eye catching and
makes you want to read the articles.
Numbers - Numbers placed above each small
title to help link them to the rest of the
magazine.
Colour - The text on a white background with
black text making it easy to read. Pink colour
scheme - attracts a more female audience.
Cover info in the bottom corner.

8. MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE ADVERTISMENT PAGE CODES AND CONVENTIONS
Vogue
Pictures - Only two, one is very large the other
much smaller. One of them has the page
number linking it to the article and the other
tells the reader details about the front cover.
Title - Magazines name in large font at the top
of the page - creates brand recognition,
‘contents’ and the date in small above it.
Titles separating the different types of articles
in red to stand out and catch the readers eye.
Numbers - Placed next to the articles names in
bold. Helps the reader navigate around the
magazine.
Colour - Black, white and red all contrast each
other and helps everything to stand out.
Info about the cover at the bottom.

Harpers Bazaar
Pictures - One centre picture of a shoe linking it
to the fashion theme - attracts a more fashion
driven audience.
Title - Name of the magazine in a large
contrasting font at the top of the page. Date
below it.
Text - Titles separating the different types of
articles in bold font. Around the centre picture -
unusual convention.
Numbers - Placed next to the articles names in
bold. Helps the reader navigate around the
magazine.
Colour - White background with black font -
stands out easy to read.
Information on the cover at the bottom.

CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF THE PICTURES.
Whilst researching contents pages of both regional
and fashion magazines I realised that there wasn't
must difference between fashion and regional
magazines except for the contents of the text.
All of the pictures I researched were shot in high key
lighting making them look nice and it helps to give
positive vibes.
The pictures were all related to articles inside the
magazine which helps to interest the readers and
gives insight into what they are going to be reading.
These codes and conventions I researched are all
ones I want to feature in my magazine.

CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF THE TEXT
The layout of text on the contents page also didn't
vary between fashion and regional magazines but
the content did.
Sometimes the texts were fit into sections for
example ‘features’ or 'food' then all the food articles
would go under there. Normally there is a fraise or
mini title to describe a bit about the article. It only
gives a small insight into the article which intrigues
readers making them want to read on.
The font is usually in a plain black font which makes
it clear and easy to read. From the magazines I
research colour was only used in a few titles to help
them stand out.
These are all conventions I want to use in my
magazine.

12. MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE ADVERTISMENT PAGE CODES AND CONVENTIONS
CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF THE NUMBERS
Numbers are used a lot on the contents page to link it to the rest of the
magazine. When readers are drawn to the pictures and text the numbers
help them navigate around the magazine and find the article.
Normally the numbers on the pictures are in a larger font and others are
placed next to or above the text in similar but normally larger font.
CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF EXTRA FEATURES
Cover info - Not always but sometimes in the magazines I researched there
was a small section towards the bottom or in the corner with information
about the front cover. If people are drawn to the magazine by the cover
then they might want to know a bit more information on it.
Occasionally a picture is added as well to link it to the cover.
