Contents page production log
1.
2. For my contents page, the first thing I did was open up a new document in InDesign and
begun my construction. I added ‘CONTENTS’ in capital letters, to the top of the page and
placed it on the right hand side in the corner. When I did my research into magazines I noticed
that ‘Billboard’ magazine uses colours on certain letters, in their name on their front cover, so to
be different I decided to add colour to the ‘O’ in ‘contents’ to give my magazine a unique
look. I wanted my magazine to have bright, vibrant colours to show how colourful and loud
house/electro pop music is which is what I wanted to get across to my audience, so I decided
to use the colour pink for my contents page. I then added the magazine issue at the very top
of the page above the contents title to make clear to my readers the issue month of this
particular magazine.
3. I decided to use a
box around one of I then began to
the subheads add text, on the
because this specific right hand side of
headline was the the page
most important in underneath the
the whole magazine contents title and
as it was also the used a
main feature for my document grid to
front help me place
cover, therefore I the pink box as
wanted to add shown below.
more attention to
it, to remind the
readers and lure
them to read further.
As I had added the
colour pink as the
main colour for my
contents page, I
decided to also
make the border of While placing the text,
the box, pink. I also started to add
page numbers to
direct the readers.
4. Once I added the text, I then began to add pictures. At first I decided to add a picture of the same
person I used for my front cover, Alex, to create a link and advertise him as a artist and to also shine
the light on him being the main feature in the magazine. However I then began to have second
thoughts and decided to use a different approach and use a picture to relate more to the
magazine itself and its music genre, so I went ahead with adding a picture of two young people
posing at a club/rave, which I believed would represent the magazine and make it look quite fun. I
also had to consider the colour scheme of the entire magazine and because my front cover was in
a black and red colour scheme, I decided to continue using the same colours throughout. And as
we can see below, the boy is wearing a red t-shirt which is also why I mainly decided to include this
picture, but also because of what the picture itself represents. I then added my magazine name to
my contents page to advertise my magazine.
5. I knew that I had to have more than one picture on my contents page so I decided to use
another image, this time of two girls at a club, one being myself, both posing and smiling
to show the happy, fun side to represent the magazine’s vibe overall. At first I decided to
use this picture as the main one, enlarging it and placing it right next to the text, and I
placed my previous image on top. I then played around with some fonts to decide which
ones exactly would fit and look good.
6. Because of my
particular colour
scheme, I wanted
the continuity of
red and black so I
changed the
colours of the ‘O’
in ‘contents’ and
also the main box
from pink to red.
So I decided to
make this image
the main one
because of the
colours, so I made
it bigger than it
was before, and
reduced the size
of the picture of
the girls.
7. Once I had completed
writing all the text on
what would be
featured in the
magazine, I changed
the writing to the two
main fonts I had
decided to use for my
front cover, I placed
‘Bauhaus 93’ as the
subhead font and as
for the text below
each, I changed it
to, ‘Haettenschwei
ler’ I believe it’s
important to use the
same fonts and colours
throughout the
magazine, because I
didn’t want to confuse
my readers too much, I
wanted to keep
everything similar and
simple, which I believe
is effective to attract
my audience. And in
my opinion, these two
fonts symbolize fun and
loud which is what my
magazine is about.
8. I placed a
screenshot of my
front cover with
the
photographers
name beside it, to
promote and give
credit to her/him
for taking the
photo of the main
image, Alex.
Based on my
research from
‘Mixmag’
I wanted to add a bit more
magazine, I learnt colour so I thought about
that most of their changing the page numbers
contents page to red with a black outline to
also include make them clearer to read. I
this, so this helped also added page numbers to
me to be creative both images to show that
and encouraged they represent something
me to do important that is featured
something similar. inside, I think both images are
quite appealing which will
encourage my readers to
read further.
