The document describes the process of designing a double page magazine spread. Key steps included:
1) Adding the title, subheading, and byline to establish the layout and size of the spread.
2) Incorporating the article text using different fonts, colors, and a pull quote, with a transparent background image.
3) Adding the magazine logo and centering the band image on the second page to structure other elements.
4) Positioning the subheading, pull quotes, and smaller images to complete the spread.
2. I started by adding the title of the page first so that I knew where to put everything
else and so that I knew the main size of it, as well as the small subheading and the
by line.
3. I added the article next and made sure that I changed the colours and fonts, as well
as using a pull quote in the centre of the page. I also used a drop capital at the
beginning of the article and wrote the introduction in bold, and layered the
columns so that they fitted with the title.
4. I added a transparent image behind the text so that it was still clear to read the
article but it also gave depth to the page and you can make out the image too. I
experimented with the transparency and eventually decided that having it this
transparent lets you see the text and the image behind clearly. I also added the
magazine logo to the top of the page so that the audience will be reminded as
to what they are reading and so constantly advertising it.
5. I then concentrated on the second half of the page and added the image of the band
onto it. I layered it behind the title and so the title is the first thing the audience would
see. This way I knew how much room I had to put the other images, the subheading
and the pull quotes.
6. I added the main subheading of the double page spread onto the page in the left
hand corner and rotated it slightly to make it look unique and contrast the up right
main image. I also added boxes as to where the smaller images were going to go so
that I knew the sizes of them and added the pull quotes next to them as well as
making the speech mark bigger so that it is obvious it was a quote.
7. Lastly I added the black and white images of closer versions of the artistes in
different positions and so linking with the pull quotes used.
