WHERE DO WE
COME
FROM?
Argentina is considered a
country of immigrants.
Most Argentines descend from
colonial-era settlers and of 19th
and 20th century immigrants
from Europe.
WE FOUND OUT ABOUT THE ORIGIN
OF OUR FAMILY NAMES.
THESE ARE THE RESULTS:

We all speak the same
language: SPANISH.
But there are slight
variations in
vocabulary, intonation and
pronunciation.
CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO THE INTERVIEW.
We interviewed two of our
classroom partners that
come from Colombia in
order to find out about their
experience of coming to live
to Argentina.
PEOPLE FROM MANY FOREIGN
COMUNITIES LIVE IN OUR CITY:
* SPAIN
* ITALY
* CHILE
* BOLIVIA
* COLOMBIA
* PARAGUAY
*CHINA
* VASQUE COUNTRY
SOME OF THEM
HAVE A
COMMUNITY CLUB
WHERE THEY MEET.
It was built at the end of the
XIX century as ‘The Italian
Society Union and Fraternity of
Mutual Help’. It has been
enlarged but it conserves its
original style.
THE ITALIAN
SOCIETY
This building was oficially
inagurated on 1st April,1863
as ‘The French Society of
Mutual Help’. It has had
many multiple uses lately
without changing its original
appearance.
THE FRENCH
SOCIETY
THE SPANISH
SOCIETY
It was opened in
1920 as a place to
help both the
Spanish community
in our city and their
descendants. It still
conserves its
original style and
aim.
THE VASQUE
CENTRE
It is situated in
the centre of the
city and is used
to celebrate
parties carried
out by the
community of
Vasque people
that live here.
SOCIETY OF BOLIVIAN
PEOPLE LIVING IN SAN
NICOLÁS
It is the most modern of them. It
was built about twenty years
ago. It is used by a large
number of Bolivian people who
live in our city to practice sports
and practice typical dances.
WHAT ARE THESE PLACES
USED FOR?
Foreign community members
gather in these places to
celebrate parties or eat typical
dishes .
But these are also cultural
places to learn typical
dances, sports and languages.
Some of these communities keep
some old traditions and still
celebrate some festivals.
Follow this link to see a video about the Guadalupean Party in our city:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUxE-PT8aYw
For example, the community of Bolivia in
our city celebrate the day of the
Guadalupe Virgen on 8th December and
that of the Copacabana Virgin on 7th
September.
EVERY YEAR IN NOVEMBER, THERE IS A
FESTIVAL OF FOREIGN COMMUNITIES
ORGANISED BY OUR TOWN HALL, TO
SHOW ALL THE COMMUNITIES THAT LIVE
HERE AND PROMOTE CULTURAL
AWARENESS.
People from different
countries have the
possibility of showing
their typical
costumes, music, traditio
nal dishes and
traditional objects.
All along the American
continent,
we commemorate
The Day of Cultural
Diversity
on 19th April.
… a great step towards
real peace.
Cultural
awareness
