Confirmation strengthens and empowers those who receive it through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It deepens one's union with the Church and commitment to spreading the faith. Biblically, it traces its origins to Acts when the Apostles laid hands on baptized believers and they received the Holy Spirit. Today, Confirmation is celebrated through anointing with chrism, the laying on of hands by the bishop, and a promise to live as a faithful witness to Christ and his Church.
