St. Angela Merici was an Italian nun who founded the Ursuline Order in the 16th century. She dedicated her life to serving God and teaching young girls. She taught values of respect, care for others, and treating people the way you want to be treated. Her motto of "Serviam," meaning "I will serve," inspired her community to dedicate their lives to serving God by serving others. The Ursuline Order continues St. Angela's legacy today through schools and communities around the world.

2. 1. ST ANGELA’S EARLY LIFE AND
CHILDHOOD.
AT1: Biography and facts about St. Angela’s life and childhood.
Interesting facts about St. Angela.
• Born on the 21st of March 1474, at Desenzano del Garda,
Lake Garda, Italy.
• Her parents died when she was 10 years old.
• She also had a sister, but her sister died by a sudden death.
• Her feast day is the 27th of January.
• She went to live with his uncle to the town of Salo.
• Her uncle died when she was 20, so she went to
Desenzano.
• Angela became suddenly blind when she was on the island
of Crete. Despite this, St Angela continued her journey to
the Holy Places and was cured of her blindness.
• She died the 27th of January 1540 at Brescia, Lombardy,
Italy.
• Her name means “Message from God”

Dear Friend,
Do you remember me? Is Angela! I am 15 now! I am
currently in Desenzano, Italy. It is still winter and it is
cold. I moved here because my uncle died, and I am
dedicating my life to God. He supports me and he helps
me. I just gathered some young girls and nuns. We
dedicate our life to God. I devote myself to pray for
other persons, mostly poor children and families who
need our help, because everyone is equal. I only sleep a
few hours on a straw mat, and my pillow is a block of
wood. But I will not leave my faith fall, especially now,
that I dedicate my life to God with all my heart. I hope
you are fine!

3. 2. ST. ANGELA’S WORK
AT1 : St. Angela’s teachings. How did she set up her
community.
On the 25th of November 1535, St.
Angela formed the order of the
Ursulines , with the woman and
young girls she gathered. She
gather the 28 woman who helped
her in a small church St. Afra in
Brescia. In 1536 St. Angela
established some rules. When she was
dying she told her community the
last rule she wanted everyone to
follow. It was “ My God, I love you. “
She also said “ Be bound to one
another by the bond of love”

I feel so excited, but at the same time
nervous. I will try my best to be the best
possible leader. We will dedicate our
life to God, and I know he will help me
to overcome my fears. He is our true
leader. I believe in him, and he
believes in me. He is the one, he will
help us, and lead us to overcome our
fears and be the best that we can be.

4. 3. ST. ANGELA'S TEACHINGS
AT1.
St. Angela was a very good role model to all of
us. Mostly when she was teaching us. She
teaching us. She taught girls of our age how to
read and write, and how to be a follower of God.
She was patient and did not become impatient.
She taught that we needed to serve God and
others, show respect and care, she said that we
needed to treat people the way we want to be
treated. We can live her teachings at this very
moment , because they are not so hard, you just
need to trust in yourself and become a very
good person. It is so easy, you just need to follow
Serviam. SERVIAM means, I will serve. It is so
important to follow SERVIAM, because apart
from serving others, you are serving God, which
is the most important thing in your life.

Why is Serviam important?
Serviam is important in our lifes because it is saying
that you are serving other people, and when you
are serving other people you are also serving God,
because you are serving your neighbour. We use
the term of Serviam as a prayer which emphasizes
their willingness to love and serve God. Catholic
bishops, schools, publishers, have used it as their
motto. They have been inspired by St. Angela and
her role model, St. Ursula. Serviam is written in
Latin, and it means "I will serve." This was the cry
of St. Michael the Archangel as a response to
Lucifer's "I will not serve" (Non Serviam) when God
tested the angels.

5. 4. URSULINES IN THE
MODERN WORLD.

community.
St. Ursuline High school (Wimbledon)
St. Ursuline High school is another Ursuline
community, which has also been inspired by
St. Angela . Ursuline High School, Wimbledon
was founded when four nuns from Forest Gate
came to Wimbledon to establish a tiny school
with three pupils in a private house called
Delaware at 68 Worple Road on the 26th April
1892. The school soon expanded and moved
to a large house called Claremont, pictured
above, which is still visible from the school
grounds but is now privately owned and
separate from the main school site. New
buildings were built due to the increment of
students.

Dear St. Ursuline High school (
Wimbledon),
I am a St. Angela Ursuline school
student, from the St. Angela Roman
Catholic Convent School, and I’m
currently learning about St. Angela. Here
at my school we got more than 10
subjects! And the school has 2 big blocks:
Merici & Brescia. St Angela is our role
model, and that is why we always start
the class with a prayer. It goes like this:
Gracious God,
Let us remain in harmony,
United together all of one heart and one will,
Let us be bound to one another by the bond of love,
Respecting each other, helping each other,
And bearing with each other in Jesus Christ,
For if we try to be like this without any doubt,
The Lord God will be in our midst,
Amen.

6. 5. WHAT HAVE
LEARNT FROM THIS
PROJECT.
• AT1: What have learned from this project?
• I have learned a lot from St. Angela, her life
as a child and what she did to become a
saint. I found interesting the part when she
became to dedicate her life to others and
to God. The difficult part was when I was
trying to find out about how St. Angela led
her community, but I finally did it. If I was
to complete the project again, I would add
more images, and make it stand out.
