New Zealand has an export-dominated food industry with well co-ordinated production systems. It is supported by an internationally respected research base with strong Government support and Overview Consumer trends in food consumption are rapidly changing in Western and Asian markets. Increasing emphasis is being placed on food safety, diet and health and sustainability (in its broadest sense, i.e. environmental, social and economic considerations). These major extensive SME engagement. Thus it constitutes a useful model and a valuable source of complementary expertise to that within the EU. EU-NZ research linkages are therefore important in ensuring the EU food industry is successful in meeting the needs of consumers and in exploiting opportunities offered through industry globalisation. FOOD-FRENZ A conference focusing on the themes of: • Food safety • Personalised foods • Sustainability, including animal health and welfare • Innovative technologies Contributing to the implementation of the strategic research agenda of the European Technology Platform on Food for Life
- 3. enhancing research success defined.As part of the event there will be a brokerage session where delegates will be able to establish common interests and develop consortia to pursue future research in line with the European Technology Platform - Food for Life (ETP FFL) strategic research agenda. The FP7 programme will be a major focus for this foresight opportunity and is expected to provide a mechanism to build effective links across the EU and with NZ. WWhhaatt tthhee sseemmiinnaarr wwiillll ccoovveerr aanndd wwhhyy yyoouu sshhoouulldd aatttteenndd The two-day conference explores scientific developments in four major themes: food safety, personalised foods, sustainability, including animal health and welfare and innovative technologies. Advances in Europe and NZ will be reviewed and best practice for the integration of consumer demands into technological development considered. The barriers to cross-sectoral research collaboration will be identified and ways of WWhhoo sshhoouulldd aatttteenndd?? The conference is open to delegates from research organisations, commercial enterprises and funding agencies within the EU and NZ. It is a must for scientists active in the target themes as well as industry representatives looking to develop new products, processes or identify new market opportunities. Funding agencies, or those charged with promoting research strategies with priorities in the four themes, should not miss this chance to engage with the providers and exploiters of high quality research.
