I had to create a one minute short advertisement about identity fraud. It needed to
be set with low key lighting, have a J or L cut, a close up, two facts and tense
background music. This was all used to create the atmosphere of a person that had
been a victim of identity fraud. The low key lighting was used to create a darker
image as it shows the sadness of the victim. The J or L cut was used to show people
what happened to the victim without interrupting the speech of the victim. I needed
to use tense background music to help show the intensity of having your identity
stolen. The close up shot of the victims face was used to show the audience how
much identity fraud has negatively affected them. The two facts are used to give
people some of the truth behind identity fraud.
When filming my ad I followed my storyboards. This is because I had designed what
I wanted to happen in the form of my storyboards. When I went to actually film my
ad I used a scripts as well as it made it easier for my actor to speak to the camera
for nearly a minute. The filming didn’t take very long because my actor got
everything correct after two takes. This meant I could also spend longer on my
editing.
My script was based off of an advert I had seen before about identity fraud. I
thought it would be a good advert to base mine off because it made me and other
people in my class pay attention to it. My script wasn’t very long as I was not aloud
to exceed one minute of video. This meant I had to get a lot of information into a
video in a short space of time. My script talked about how someone got scammed
easily by another person.
When editing my short video I had to make sure it fit a few different criteria. The
first criteria was that it was only a minute long as that is what the brief specified. I
also had to ensure that I included a J or an L cut. This meant I had to have my
actor speaking whilst something was happening in my short video. My final edit
had a few parts cut out of it because the actors speech was done in one clip. This
meant that it had rather long pauses in it that needed to be cut out so that it didn’t
exceed one minute.
I organized my files so that I could easily identify what I needed to use for specific
parts of my one minute short ad. If I needed a piece of footage to add to my ad I
knew that it would be in my raw footage file as I made sure it was all in there. My
images and music file had my power point and the images I needed off it and the
backing track of my short film. The finished product file has my completed work in
it and my premier pro work in it. It has both these files in it as it is were the work
was put whilst I was making it and after it was completed.
Overall I believe that I made a decent video. There are however a few things I could
have done better. I could have generated some low key lighting. I believe my video
will stand out to a younger audience because of a few different reasons. One reason
is that the main actor is a similar age to my target audience so they will most likely
connect with him easier and quicker. another reason is that it is talking about a
way that a lot of people get scammed which will make it more relatable.
 In conclusion I believe that what I made wasn’t bad but could’ve been better as
there were a few things I could’ve done to create more sympathy for the actor as
he was telling his story. I also could’ve taken more clips to see if I could get any
better ones than the ones I got. This could’ve made my video better as I could’ve
gotten clips where the camera was not as shaky. Overall I believe that some young
people will be able to relate to the video and will accept the warnings in it.
