Screen writing
Master scene script
This is the opening to the master scene script, IT. The script has a specific opening, which is
good because it gives the production team an idea of how filmwill open on the main screen.
It also tells you what studio that the film was made in. “Studio Draft 3-18-2014”. This will
mean also what date the draft of when the script was made. This date is American; the
English date is the “18-3-2014”. This gives the audience a specific date of when the draft
script was made.
The slugline says “INT. WILL’S BEDROOM- DAY’ this tells us that this specific scene is based
within Will’s Bedroom during the day. The layout of this script is quite good. This is because
it gives the production team a clear and productive script. Also the script is very easy to read
and get your head around as the audience. Within the layout there is a “(9)” after it talks
about the character George and then there is a “(11)” after the character’s name Will. This is
to tell the production team and crew as well as the audience how old these specific
characters are in the film. At the very beginning of the script the audience are given the
writer of the script. It also shows you what novel the script based.
The mode of address for this specific scrip is indirect. This is because the text/ dialogue refer
to people/ public. To be more specific this bit of dialogue refers to two characters within the
film script. The audience will be able to tell that the mode of address is not direct. This is
because the dialogue of this opening scene is dedicated to the opening characters, George
and will. So it does not speak out to the audience. The audience gets the idea that the
producer/ director is trying to set the scene of two children, on a rainy day. One child is
eager to get outside and the other is ill in bed. This is how the target audience realizes that
the mode of address is indirect.
We are presented with a very dull atmosphere. This atmosphere has a good impact on the
directions of the production towards the production team. We know this because of the
mise en-scene. Props also help with the production team. We know this because when it
says “Rain, lashing a window pane a PIANO PLAYS somewhere off screen”. This helps with
the directions towards the team as it tells them what needs to happen in that specific scene
and when it needs to happen. Props also help with directions. We are presented with
different props in this scene, with the quote “putting the finishing touches on A PAPER
BOAT”. We know that the prop paper boat is essential within this scene as it is in bold and in
capital letter. Knowing this the audience get the rough idea that this prop is a huge deal in
this scene. We also know that there will be different props that will be needed. The
audience know this because of where this scene is shot. This scene is shot in the bedroom of
one of the children. This scene is shot within Will’s bedroom. The audience know this
because it says in the scrip “INT. WILLS BEDROOM- DAY” we also know that a piano playing
in the background off set is essential also. I believe this is essential because it will set the
atmosphere and mood of the scene.
The language in this specific dialogue is appealing and engaging to the audience. This is
because it gets straight to the point. The language is simple and clear to the audience. The
language is also appealing because it sets the tone of the two main character of the film.
One of the characters is a nervous boy and the other seems by the dialogue a little bit of a
nasty character. We get a little description of one of the characters. It says “a little boy
gazes out into the storm, nervous, eager and sweet. Meet GEORGE DENBROUGH”. By the
name of one of the characters being in bold and clear, we get the impression that this
character is a important aspect of this film. We know this by his name being bold but as well
as that he is in the opening scene so he must be an important aspect of the film.
Shooting script
This is a shooting script. A shooting script is the final version of a television/ film script used
in the production of a program. This is really good for the directions of the production team.
This is because it’s a shooting script, these sort of scripts are pretty much only for the
producers. There is much different directions for the production team. Directions such as,
length of camera shots, what different kind of shots needed, which members of the cast will
be need in this shot, shot numbers, props and equipment, and different sound, etc. This is
really important because the production team have to get these shots right. They have to
get the shot length as accurate as possible to the length of the shot required. This shot list
is in a nutshell. Everything the cameramen/women have done.
This language will persuade and engage the viewer, as some of the language is complex we
know this by the use of the language “non diegetic, light flickering”. This will attract more of
a cohesive and complex audience. An audience that likes to read text which is complicated
and confusing. Many different audiences will be attracted to this shooting script. They will
want to know how a shooting script is made and what it is. They will also want to know
what requirements are needed.
Shooting scripts are made to appeal and relate to different audiences because people, who
read this will have a better understanding on how television programs and films are made.
They will relate to different audiences also because every audience for a film or program
needs a shooting script so every audience will have to look at a shooting script now and
again. They will get to see how complex a shooting script actually is.
Radio script
We are presented with a script from a radio show. The layout of the script in my opinion is
quite confusing. This is because you a presented with different names of presenters of the
radio show etc. The layout is also really informative as well as engaging to the audience.
The mode of address of this radio script is indirect also. This is because the information on
the script is referring to different people. Not to the audience individually. The style of this
radio script is very clear and simple. This will easy for the reader/audience to read and
understand.
This script will be appealing to all audiences in many different ways. One of these ways is
that all the different titles and names are easy to understand and get your head around.
They are also appealing and engaging to all audiences because the radio script is very
informative and is cohesive in what it is trying to say. On this specific script that I have
decided to look at it tells you the name of the show and how long it is going to be on for.
We know this when we get provided with the information “Title of show: Smooth Mornings,
TRT: 2 Hours, Host: DJ Anne & DJ Angel”. This is essential because it tells the production
team as well as the audience how long the show will be on for. It also wells you who the
presenters of the show is. This is informative and is an important part of the radio script.
Gaming script
Here we are presented with a scene, from a game script. This script is similar to master
scene script. It has the same layout as this script. But this script is different to any other
script that we have analysed and evaluated. This script reaches out and grasps the
audience’s attention as most games tent to do. This game script has a direct mode of
address. This game script speaks out to the audience and targets their attention.
Here is an example to ensure that gaming scripts are readable:
This example is a flowchart of a scene out of a game. This is also a more simplified version of
the script above that we provided. This ensures that the game will grasp the audience’s
attention. Also it shows that the game interacts with the audience.
These different types of language will attract different types of audiences as it shows a
flowchart. Which everyone can read and is simple and a lot more affective, when coming to
providing information for the audience.

Screen writing (1)

  • 1. Screen writing Master scene script This is the opening to the master scene script, IT. The script has a specific opening, which is good because it gives the production team an idea of how filmwill open on the main screen. It also tells you what studio that the film was made in. “Studio Draft 3-18-2014”. This will mean also what date the draft of when the script was made. This date is American; the English date is the “18-3-2014”. This gives the audience a specific date of when the draft script was made. The slugline says “INT. WILL’S BEDROOM- DAY’ this tells us that this specific scene is based within Will’s Bedroom during the day. The layout of this script is quite good. This is because it gives the production team a clear and productive script. Also the script is very easy to read and get your head around as the audience. Within the layout there is a “(9)” after it talks about the character George and then there is a “(11)” after the character’s name Will. This is to tell the production team and crew as well as the audience how old these specific characters are in the film. At the very beginning of the script the audience are given the writer of the script. It also shows you what novel the script based. The mode of address for this specific scrip is indirect. This is because the text/ dialogue refer to people/ public. To be more specific this bit of dialogue refers to two characters within the
  • 2. film script. The audience will be able to tell that the mode of address is not direct. This is because the dialogue of this opening scene is dedicated to the opening characters, George and will. So it does not speak out to the audience. The audience gets the idea that the producer/ director is trying to set the scene of two children, on a rainy day. One child is eager to get outside and the other is ill in bed. This is how the target audience realizes that the mode of address is indirect. We are presented with a very dull atmosphere. This atmosphere has a good impact on the directions of the production towards the production team. We know this because of the mise en-scene. Props also help with the production team. We know this because when it says “Rain, lashing a window pane a PIANO PLAYS somewhere off screen”. This helps with the directions towards the team as it tells them what needs to happen in that specific scene and when it needs to happen. Props also help with directions. We are presented with different props in this scene, with the quote “putting the finishing touches on A PAPER BOAT”. We know that the prop paper boat is essential within this scene as it is in bold and in capital letter. Knowing this the audience get the rough idea that this prop is a huge deal in this scene. We also know that there will be different props that will be needed. The audience know this because of where this scene is shot. This scene is shot in the bedroom of one of the children. This scene is shot within Will’s bedroom. The audience know this because it says in the scrip “INT. WILLS BEDROOM- DAY” we also know that a piano playing in the background off set is essential also. I believe this is essential because it will set the atmosphere and mood of the scene. The language in this specific dialogue is appealing and engaging to the audience. This is because it gets straight to the point. The language is simple and clear to the audience. The language is also appealing because it sets the tone of the two main character of the film. One of the characters is a nervous boy and the other seems by the dialogue a little bit of a nasty character. We get a little description of one of the characters. It says “a little boy gazes out into the storm, nervous, eager and sweet. Meet GEORGE DENBROUGH”. By the name of one of the characters being in bold and clear, we get the impression that this character is a important aspect of this film. We know this by his name being bold but as well as that he is in the opening scene so he must be an important aspect of the film. Shooting script This is a shooting script. A shooting script is the final version of a television/ film script used in the production of a program. This is really good for the directions of the production team. This is because it’s a shooting script, these sort of scripts are pretty much only for the producers. There is much different directions for the production team. Directions such as, length of camera shots, what different kind of shots needed, which members of the cast will be need in this shot, shot numbers, props and equipment, and different sound, etc. This is really important because the production team have to get these shots right. They have to get the shot length as accurate as possible to the length of the shot required. This shot list is in a nutshell. Everything the cameramen/women have done.
  • 3. This language will persuade and engage the viewer, as some of the language is complex we know this by the use of the language “non diegetic, light flickering”. This will attract more of a cohesive and complex audience. An audience that likes to read text which is complicated and confusing. Many different audiences will be attracted to this shooting script. They will want to know how a shooting script is made and what it is. They will also want to know what requirements are needed. Shooting scripts are made to appeal and relate to different audiences because people, who read this will have a better understanding on how television programs and films are made. They will relate to different audiences also because every audience for a film or program needs a shooting script so every audience will have to look at a shooting script now and again. They will get to see how complex a shooting script actually is. Radio script
  • 4. We are presented with a script from a radio show. The layout of the script in my opinion is quite confusing. This is because you a presented with different names of presenters of the radio show etc. The layout is also really informative as well as engaging to the audience. The mode of address of this radio script is indirect also. This is because the information on the script is referring to different people. Not to the audience individually. The style of this radio script is very clear and simple. This will easy for the reader/audience to read and understand. This script will be appealing to all audiences in many different ways. One of these ways is that all the different titles and names are easy to understand and get your head around. They are also appealing and engaging to all audiences because the radio script is very informative and is cohesive in what it is trying to say. On this specific script that I have decided to look at it tells you the name of the show and how long it is going to be on for. We know this when we get provided with the information “Title of show: Smooth Mornings, TRT: 2 Hours, Host: DJ Anne & DJ Angel”. This is essential because it tells the production team as well as the audience how long the show will be on for. It also wells you who the presenters of the show is. This is informative and is an important part of the radio script. Gaming script
  • 5. Here we are presented with a scene, from a game script. This script is similar to master scene script. It has the same layout as this script. But this script is different to any other script that we have analysed and evaluated. This script reaches out and grasps the audience’s attention as most games tent to do. This game script has a direct mode of address. This game script speaks out to the audience and targets their attention. Here is an example to ensure that gaming scripts are readable: This example is a flowchart of a scene out of a game. This is also a more simplified version of the script above that we provided. This ensures that the game will grasp the audience’s attention. Also it shows that the game interacts with the audience. These different types of language will attract different types of audiences as it shows a flowchart. Which everyone can read and is simple and a lot more affective, when coming to providing information for the audience.
