- 2. Thematic – ok go – this too shall pass Thematic because it follows the theme of following a ball through an assault course with is powering the music playing from the speakers. It is random, but very entertaining and satisfying to watch. Performance also occurs to give the audience a break from focusing on the ball. Bright colours are used to convey the theme of the song. The title of the song also fits the theme of the song – the ball passing through obstacles. Artist has chosen this type of video because they know it will keep the audience interested. Thematic videos often use the concept of nature, which is present in this screenshot. - 3. Symbolic – Red hot Chilli peppers – other side Costume of character is symbolic to artist – could question whether the red hat symbolises the artist name. The music video is mainly cartoon, which is common in symbolic videos. Dark and gloomy setting – could convey the idea that the character is trying to get to the ‘other side’ which is a utopia, as the music video follows a journey. Colours often contrast – light colour shows path to the other world character is trying to reach. As with many cartoons when the protagonist is at the boarder to another world they normally have to fight some type of demon. Violence can also occur in some symbolic music videos.
