Friction is a force that opposes the relative motion or tendency for relative motion of two surfaces in contact. Without friction, it would be impossible to walk or for cars to move. Friction allows for motion between surfaces and helps prevent slipping and sliding, but too much friction can cause excessive wear and tear of parts.
