Prof. Stephen Hawking - last writings - Artificial Intelligence - Superhumans - Genetic Engineering
The late physicist and author Prof Stephen Hawking has caused controversy by suggesting a new race of superhumans could develop from wealthy people choosing to edit their and their children’s DNA.
“I am sure that during this century, people will discover how to modify both intelligence and instincts such as aggression,” he wrote.
The renowned theoretical physicist, who died in March this year, made the grim prediction in a collection of essays and articles recently published by the UK’s Sunday Times, prior to the release of a book containing a collection of writings by Dr Hawking.
Dr Hawking was known for bringing clarity to some of the most mind-bending ideas in science such as the nature of black holes and the possibility of a multiverse.
In January 2015, Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, and dozens of artificial intelligence experts signed an open letter on artificial intelligence calling for research on the societal impacts of AI. The letter affirmed that society can reap great potential benefits from artificial intelligence, but called for concrete research on how to prevent certain potential "pitfalls": artificial intelligence has the potential to eradicate disease and poverty, but researchers must not create something which cannot be controlled.
Should Intelligent Design replace the Darwinian Theory of Evolution? - Contraghostexorcist
This was a slide that I created for my anthropology capstone course. This particular debate was whether Intelligent Design (a.k.a. I talked about other things not mentioned in the slide.
Darwin said, "If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down.”

180 years later, his theory has broken down according to his own criteria! There is ABSOLUTELY NOT ONE TRANSITIONAL FOSSIL BETWEEN KINDS OF ANIMALS. DARWIN'S THEORY IS WRONG!
And his ideas have promoted racism and white supremacy more than any other single person worldwide for the past 150 years! Darwin needs to be Dethroned in our scientific and educational systems.

How and why are scientific discoveries made at the same time by different scientists who are not working together? Explain.
In the book The Double Helix, James Watson describes his role is this competitive scientific race. In essence, Watson wanted to earn a Nobel Prize, and he decided that the discovery of the structure of DNA was his best chance of doing so. Not all scientists are so very focused on recognition, but everyone wants credit for the work that they do. Discuss the differences, using specific examples, of doing science to become famous and doing science as one does art…because it is simply what you do.
In 1962, Watson, Crick, and Wilkins received the Nobel Prize in Science for the discovery of the structure of DNA. Notably absent from the podium was Rosalind Franklin, whose X-ray photographs contributed directly to the discovery of the double helix. Franklin did not receive a Nobel Prize for her work on this project because she had died in 1958. Why was she overlooked? Is science still a man’s world? Explain.
How and why is Azande Witchcraft similar to science? What can we learn from this similarity?
If a scientific paradigm is very strong, it is almost impossible to displace. It is how that particular subdiscipline of science is DONE! Paradigm shifts in science are, therefore, rare. Examine at least two known paradigm shifts in science and how they came to be.
Animal communication through ‘silent’ substrate-borne vibration signals is an ancient, wide-spread system that predates hearing even in vertebrates and has been used by insects for at least 230 million years. A conservative estimate is that as many as 150,000 species of insects use only vibrational signals in communication, and another 45,000 species use it in combination with vision, hearing, smell, etc. Vertebrate animals from mammals to fish also use vibrational signals, but we humans know very little about this communication modality. Even those who study animal communication may overlook potential evidence that vibrational signals are important in their study group. Discuss whether this lack of consideration is based on stubborn refusal to face facts, or whether people ‘see’ what they expect to see, as in an optical illusion.

Learning from Darwin: What can the man who wrote The Origin of Species teach ...Roberto Rocco
‘On the Origin of Species’ was published on 24 November 1859. It is a work of scientific literature by Charles Darwin, and it is considered the foundation of evolutionary biology. In this text, we read the INTRODUCTION to The Origin of Species and highlight aspects of the text that are relevant for us to understand a scientific attitude and how to translate this attitude into text. This exercise is intended to Urbanism students who are unsure about the tone and the kind of language they met adopt in scientific reports. The text we are about to analyse was written in the second half of the 19th century, but it is still incredibly modern and actual. Read the text carefully and reflect on the comments. What can you incorporate into your essays and reports?

Thapa 6
Charles Darwin gave a theory on how life began and developed over time by publishing a book On the Origin of Species. This book mainly deals with the evolution by natural selection. Because of intelligent speculation and a powerful thesis supported by carefully analyzed evidences, it became the bible of evolution. Although scientists continue to view natural selection as the primary mechanism of evolution, the latest advanced discoveries and religious belief makes me skeptical. So, in this paper I will analyze Darwinian evolution, and its relationship to the origin of species.
The Bible tells us that life was created on the fourth, fifth and sixth day by god more than 10,000 years ago and main feature of the earth were produced by Noah’s flood. Moreover, there has been no remarkable changes in life since then. Animals of different kind were created which acknowledges us that evolution was merely the process by which God created life. But, according to Darwin, evolution is natural process and believed that cosmos is closed system of material which can never be influenced by anything outside of material nature. Large explosion of matter created cosmos, and everything produced naturally. The very first organism was created by chance without any purpose. Others were evolved through natural process such that all the plants and animals that have ever existed on the earth have been evolved from the same organism, which means we all have same ancestor[footnoteRef:1]. In a specific population, characters which favor the animal to survive remains with them and to cope with new environment new characters are developed during the course of time. Such characters get transferred to next generations and become more frequent in later generations. Thus, there appear to be clash between science and religion. Religion relies on faith and belief as well as it helps people to make meaning out of their lives, where as there is no faith in science because it involves only observation leading to common sense decision. Moreover, religion gives the feeling that world is decent. On the contrary the struggle for existence gives the sense of death, waste, and selfish concerns over our own genes. Also, it is difficult to overcome the existing belief that humans evolve from the lower animals. Furthermore, living organism are enormously complex and such complex organism created by chance seems clearly less credible.[footnoteRef:2] Thus, Darwin lacks strong evidence and witness to integrate religious and scientific thinking which keeps me in dilemma over issue of the evolution of species. 2. BASIC RULES FOR WRITING A CAUSE & EFFECT ESSAY
This is what writing a cause and effect essay is about: you tell your
audience the ‘whats and whys’ of a specific subject and share your
own thoughts and opinions along with that.
Use ‘multiple causes, one effect’ pattern to explain multiple
causes that result in a singular effect. Explain the cause that took
place and then talk about its effects.
Use ‘one cause, multiple effects’ pattern to describe one cause
and the way it led to multiple effects. Explain the cause, pay
attention to “why” and “how” it took place and then explain the multiple
ensuing effects.
Develop at least three solid arguments as the key points of your
paper. Explain the effect of your phenomenon, fact or trend.
Produce a conclusion that links all the paragraphs together. The
evidence discussed in the body paragraphs is tied together in this
section, getting summarized by the author.

3. 5 MUST-FOLLOW RULES FOR WRITING A CAUSE &
EFFECT ESSAY ON EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY
Writing a cause and effect essay on evolutionary biology, use the following
transitions between the causes and effects to blend words more naturally: so,
since, because, as, one reason why…, consequently, there are several
other reasons as well, etc.
Mention that while life evolution theories really influenced a lot of biologists and
still remain the core of evolutionary biology, many of them were debunked by
scientists of the 20th century. Explain why it happened.
Most scientists believe in the evolutionary theory. Focus on why there were
seven scientific findings that completely contradicted the basis of the
evolutionary theory, before Charles Darwin published his theory.
Many modern evolutionists are actually ashamed of Darwin’s writings since
he has written mind-boggling phrases without providing evidence or facts that
might have supported his theories. Mention that he also took part in a few
witchcraft ceremonies, which made him disbelieve in Creationism.
The evolutionary theory is nothing but a philosophy. Explain why many
theories described in the “The Origin of Species” aren’t taken seriously by the
modern scientists.

5. 5 IDEAS FOR THESIS STATEMENTS FOR A CAUSE & EFFECT
ESSAY ON EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY
01
Many theories from ‘The Origin of Species’ have no supportive evidence or proof
that could identify them as solid and legitimate information. Many modern
evolutionists have claimed that they have evidence to support these changes.
However, the evolutionary theory is nothing but a philosophy.
Most scientists believe in the evolutionary theory, but before Charles Darwin
published it, there were seven scientific findings that completely contradicted the
basis of the evolutionary theory and they should be also considered by the modern
scientists.
When Darwin revealed his theory to biologists of that era he managed to impress
them with the thoroughly presented set of evidence. His book, ‘The Origin of
Species,' convinced almost every biologist at that time. Simply put, no one could
argue efficiently with his theory.
Some additional theories were also based on the evolutionary theory, but most of
them were utter falsifications. Furthermore, there are no scientific facts to support
those theories.
Common descent is one of the key elements of evolutionary theory. According to
this theory, every group of organisms descended from a common ancestor, i.e. all
groups of organisms (plants, microorganisms, animals) ultimately go back to a
single origin of life on the planet.

6. 5+ INTERESTING FACTS FOR A CAUSE & EFFECT ESSAY ON
EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY
01 Charles Darwin’s conclusion made people like Hitler think of putting the aged,
infirm and weak “to sleep” (forever). This theory was amplified by Darwin’s
cousin, Sir Francis Galton; he declared that “eugenics” might become a
solution to humanity’s problems.
Louis Pasteur disproved the theory of spontaneous generation by studying
fermentation and performing his famous experiment in 1861. Many scientists
believed at the time that if you leave a pile of old clothes in a corner and come
back later, it will breed mice. However, mice eventually came from other
places to eat or nest in those clothes.
Charles Darwin was the first one who presented commonly acceptable
arguments against the Creationism and created the theory called evolutionary
biology, AKA Darwin’s Theory of Evolution.

7. 5+ INTERESTING FACTS FOR A CAUSE & EFFECT ESSAY ON
EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY
Evolutionary theory was published by the Royal Society because, at that time,
a group of nine members came together to form “The X Club”. They were
considered a powerful group which had connections with the Royal Society.
This allowed them to suppress the greatest scientists of that era, which also
made publication of their books easier.
August Friedrich L.W. disproved the inheritance of acquired characteristics by
conducting an experiment on 901 mice. Throughout 19 successive
generations of young white mice he cut off their tails but every following
generation was born with a regular (full-length tail). One of the facts August
Friedrich L.W. used to prove his findings was the consequence of the Jewish
circumcision. The circumcision in the Jewish culture took place for 4000 years
but it did not affect the foreskin in any way. This went against the Lamarck’s
theory.
