Language Learner Profile: Learning Strategiescmillafilo
In the different research concerning how a second language can be acquired, it has been shown that many factors affect acquisition process of the language. This piece of work covers the influence of learning strategies by English language learners, and how the use of these can improve their level of proficiency or their understanding of the target language.
We are third year students of the English teaching major that the UCSC offers, and we are currently in our “Teaching Experience I”. For the purpose of effectiveness of our future lessons, we decided to carry out this research interviewing a second year student of a secondary school located in Concepción.
This student had an interview with us, and on the basis on that, we spot the possible linguistic problems that she had. In this piece of work, we are going to analyze the difficulties she had in order to make proposals, and plan a lesson so that this student can overcome those problems.
Learning foreign language is very difficult .Most commonly used process for learning foreign language is grammar translation method where grammar rules and translation from one language to other used , and in communicative learning technique where communicative conversation and learning technique used
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Compare and contrast
1. First Teacher: His teaching style is mostly based on the Communicative Approach
(1980). This approach mostrelatable to him and the way he teach mainly because
I teach high schooland college students who arerequired to pass TOEFL or IELTS
to study overseas. In order to live and study in an English-speaking country, his
students need to develop all four skills which are listening, speaking, reading and
writing. Consequently, he frequently utilize somecarefully leveled books, such as
How to Master the Skills for the TOEFL iBT becausethose books usually have
basic, intermediate and advanced level which meet the needs of students with
different language proficiency. Therefore, they would not be under too much
pressurefromlearning the language. Also, I love the idea of using someauthentic
materials in classroom. For instance, in his class he shows his students partof the
Psychology lecturefromHarvard University. So, they can practice how to take
notes while listening to a real college-level class. he also play a shortvideo about
how to order at restaurantin my class. So, my students would get familiar with
the common expressions they would use when they are ordering on their own.
Since the authentic materials are close to the real world, by using them, it will be
much easier for students to apply the language they have learned in the real-life
situations in the future, which is the key of the Communicative Approach.Another
reason why he think his teaching style will best meet the needs of his students
and motivate them to learn is that by using the Communicative Approach he can
use somespecific techniques, such as language games and role-plays which can
easily attract students’ attention and makethem more engaged in learning the
language. For example, in a role-play of job interview, students are given roles of
interviewers and interviewees. Besides memorizing the target language, students
need to useit to communicate with each other and act out their roles. During the
roleplay, although students may make mistakes or even look ridiculous, they can
still havea lot of fun in this given context. Actually, acting out a role is justlike
finishing a task for students which would give them a sense of accomplishment
and motivate them to continue learning the language.
The Second Teacher:Speaking about his teaching style, the mostrelatable
approach to him is the communicative approach which is applied widely by the
teacher of the era.As the world today is considered as a small village becauseof
the virtualworld, so this approach helps connect people. He like this approach
because it focuses simultaneously on the four skills, reading, speaking, listening
2. and writing and this approach tried to benefit fromthe advantages of the other
approaches, keeping away fromthe disadvantages. Butto be honest, he is not
applying only communicative approach, my own teaching style is closer to have
some features and techniques fromall the approaches. Hethink there is not one
best approach in teaching a language, the best approach is to mix and to pick a
flower fromeach approach. Whathe like to use in my classroomis lowering the
effective filter, reducing the stress and anxiety and increasing the confidence of
the learners. Sometimes if all the learners are fromone nationality, he can apply
the useof back translation fromthe grammar translation approach and reading
approach. he used to teach high schoolstudents, but in the coming period he is
looking forward to teach university students. Having a TESOL certificate is going to
help him a lot in teaching English in universities, meeting their needs and
motivating them to learn by applying whatI experienced in TESOL.
