Tarsnap is an online backup utility that focuses on security and deduplicated storage. It offers command line backups that are meant to be used in UNIX-like ways. The creator uses the income from Tarsnap as his primary source of income, mainly from large business customers. Tarsnap has been in operation since 2009 and donates all profits to the FreeBSD Foundation.
Operation Unthinkable – Software Defined Storage @ Booking.com (Peter Buschman)data://disrupted®
The story of the plan that was just crazy enough to work! Learn how Booking.com failed its way to success on a multi-year journey away from single-purpose storage-appliances, predatory-licensing, and over-complicated networking to create a unique storage solution for their hyper-scale private-cloud environment.
Presentation given at Big Data Malaysia meetup 2 about Cassandra then Mongo DB.
Was a little reluctantly pushed a lot by Tirath Ramdas into giving this talk. Surprisingly well received.
Over the last year, how many times have you found yourself itching to implement that great new service? Then you start getting your hands dirty and notice that you have to make choices: time to market? reliability? performance? If you are running low on budget (as I usually am), the problem gets exponentially more complicated. In this talk, I am going to share some recent experiences I had on using the Go programming language to explore the free-tier of cloud providers to quickly develop web services without putting aside good performance, and reliability.

Webinar: Cloud Archiving – Amazon Glacier, Microsoft Azure or Something Else?Storage Switzerland
Amazon Glacier seems like the ultimate archive; capacity costs are impressively cheap, it never has to be upgraded or replaced and all the data is off-site. The problem is at some point the organization is going to need to recover some specific set of data from that archive. At that point, the allure of Glacier wears off quickly because it is slow and recovery has to be done either through the command line or within software code. There is no self-service web-portal access to identify and retrieve specific content easily.
Webinar: Using the Cloud to Fix Backup's Blind Spot - Endpoint Data ProtectionStorage Switzerland
Many data centers unwittingly have a blind spot in their backup strategy, endpoints like laptops and other devices are left exposed. Most organizations have no formal endpoint data protection strategy even though studies indicate that over 60% of data on endpoints is unique to that device. In most cases, there is no centralized data protection strategy for endpoints.
IT is counting on users to protect their data, but the reality is that the organization needs a centralized endpoint data protection strategy that fixes backup's blind spot.
Join Storage Switzerland and Infrascale for this on demand webinar to learn how to create an endpoint data protection strategy that leverages the cloud to fix the backup blind spot. The webinar also includes a demo of the solution, so you can see how efficiently IT can protect endpoints without disrupting end users.
Getting it Right: OpenStack Private Cloud StorageNetApp
The benefits of cloud are indisputable. Storage, however, remains a complex, expensive aspect of setting up a cloud ― one you can’t afford to get wrong. When it comes to storage for OpenStack, one size doesn’t fit all, and you need to choose the right tool for the job.
Take a look at this presentation to learn:
* What workloads are best suited for performance-optimized block storage
* What storage features are critical to the success of your OpenStack cloud
* How and where to utilize complementary object storage
OSDC 2018 | Migrating to the cloud by Devdas BhagatNETWAYS
This is an experience report of a migration from self-hosted services to running in the cloud. While there have been plenty of business case studies showing the benefits of a cloud migration, there are very few reports on the IT side of the migration. This talk covers the migration of Spilgames (a small Dutch games publisher) from a self-hosted Openstack and hardware based infrastructure to Google cloud, challenges, tooling (and lack thereof). This migration is still work in progress, and the talk will cover as much detail as possible.
OSMC 2014: Naemon 1, 2, 3, N | Andreas EricssonNETWAYS
How monitoring should be automated without jeopardizing accuracy.
I will present a ready-to-use system that allows system admins to set up their servers to be automagically picked up by Naemon, and also allowing them to tweak their settings without requiring access to the monitoring system. Most notably, without even restarting or reloading the monitoring system.
I will also present a working (I hope) demo of dynamic thresholds in Naemon, using various helpers in a request/response system.
OSMC 2014 | Naemon 1, 2, 3, N by Andreas EricssonNETWAYS

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
