Communities can take many forms and are defined by the relationships between their members. There are two main types: gemeinschaft communities based on close personal ties, and gesellschaft communities based on impersonal duties. Rural communities tend to have sparse populations engaged in agriculture with deep long-term relationships. Urban communities are large with diverse populations and industries in cities. Suburban communities are located near but not in cities, providing amenities while maintaining separation of homes and workplaces. Rurban communities exhibit both urban and rural traits as relocated urban settlements in rural outskirts lack infrastructure.
