Mindfulness for Daily Living- Terri Bergstrom $12
New class! Though it has its roots in Buddhist meditation, a secular practice of mindfulness has entered the
American mainstream in recent years, in part through the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn and his Mindfulness-Based
Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, which he launched at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in
1979. Since that time, thousands of studies have documented the physical and mental health benefits of mind-
fulness in general and MBSR in particular, inspiring countless programs to adapt the MBSR model for schools,
prisons, hospitals, veterans centers, and beyond. The practice of mindfulness basically means being aware of
your thoughts, physical sensations and surroundings; being "present." This class is an introduction to mindful-
ness, and is easy to “learn.” We will explore ways to become more mindful in our lives, and it will be extremely
experiential. No special clothing, mats, chairs are required. The goal is to learn very practical ways to use your
newly acquired awareness and knowledge in a very practical way once you leave the class!

EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING
The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an
important time of rapid learning and growth developmentally. It is
recommended to have children screened when they turn 3. Early
Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how children are
doing developmentally. It identifies, at an early stage, possible learn-
ing, developmental or health concerns so that children can get need-
ed help before starting school. Early Childhood Screening is required
for entrance in Minnesota’s public schools and is offered the second
Friday of every month at the Community Learning Center.
Appointments are required and can be made by calling 507-460-1700.

  • 8. 8 ARTFULLIVING Austin Community Learning Center • 507-460-1700 Mindfulness for Daily Living- Terri Bergstrom $12 New class! Though it has its roots in Buddhist meditation, a secular practice of mindfulness has entered the American mainstream in recent years, in part through the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn and his Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, which he launched at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979. Since that time, thousands of studies have documented the physical and mental health benefits of mind- fulness in general and MBSR in particular, inspiring countless programs to adapt the MBSR model for schools, prisons, hospitals, veterans centers, and beyond. The practice of mindfulness basically means being aware of your thoughts, physical sensations and surroundings; being "present." This class is an introduction to mindful- ness, and is easy to “learn.” We will explore ways to become more mindful in our lives, and it will be extremely experiential.
