Why The Coin Doctrine Will Affect The Way Organisations...
Counter insurgency (COIN) operations are employed to combat an insurgency. These types of
operations present a highly complex operating environment within which conventional warfare is
becoming more and more ineffective. COIN operations form are large proportion of modern
conflicts and it is forcing organisations to develop new strategies and tactics in order for them to
remain within the legal bounds of international humanitarian law (IHL). This essay will explore
how committing to a COIN doctrine will affect the way organisations uphold the principles of IHL.
It will also explore whether a COIN doctrine will be effective in completing operations.
An insurgency is defined by the United States government as the organised use of subversion and
violence to seize, nullify or challenge political control of a region . Insurgencies have been
present throughout history as a form of warfare, however combatting an insurgency has always
been difficult even in the modern era. In recent operations in Afghanistan, religious extremism
and ethnic intolerance have given rise to fanatical groups that pose complex challenges which
threaten social and political stability. These group utilise all available means in order to gain an
advantage as they struggle for the acceptance by the people of the state or region of the
legitimacy of one side s claim to power . Results of this include the exploitation of the Laws of
Armed Combat (LOAC) and the rules of engagement (ROE) used by COIN forces.

Contributions Of King Philip II
King Philip II, born May 21, 1527, son of Charles V and Isabella of Portugal, ruled Spain for over
40 years, contributing greatly to the culture and the shaping Spanish society significantly. Young
Philip received an advanced education from multiple prominent mathematicians and tutors such as
Juan MartГnez Siliceo and Juan CristГіbal Calvete de Estrella. Despite this education, Philip II still
was unable to fluently speak any other languages except for Castilian, which during his rule, made
him unpopular to some of his people. As a child, he grew up in the confines of the the royal court
of Castile under the care of his mother and two sisters, surrounded by royalty.
When Philip II began his rule, Charles V had left his son with a colossal debt of roughly 36
million ducats. Philip II was then forced to take out loans, however with no way to pay these loans
back, Spain s economic troubles continued. However, in hopes of reinvigorating the Spanish
economy, Spain began to take in loads of silver and gold from the New World, this was known as
the Spanish Revolution. Despite this being beneficial to Spain, the majority of western Europe
suffered from this due to the inflation that went along with it. As a result, the value of their rivals ,
the Ottomans , silver coin became unstable, adding to their conflicts.
Philip then went on the marry the second of his four wives, Mary I of England. Though, this
proved to be a bad idea. Because Philip II was a leader of the Roman Catholic

Drinking Age Debate
The beginning of the new year symbolizes resolution, fresh starts, and most importantly change.
This year, the month of July will mark the 33rd anniversary of the 1984 National Minimum
Drinking Age, the act that states all states must enforce the legal age of 21 to purchase and
consume all alcohol. However, with each year modern society is growing, improving, drastically
changing. 18 year olds in the U.S. are capable of voting, working full time, engaging in marriage,
and are thought of as completely responsible for their actions as they are legally adults, so why are
they incapable of being responsible enough to consume alcohol? This is causing many in the U.S.
to start questioning the legitimacy or need for this law that inhibits states from... Show more content

Underage drinking has been occurring since laws were set in place for age qualifications, but it
is better serving American society by continuing it because we can t accept lowering the
national age? Ruth C. Engs, a professor for Applied Health Sciences at Indiana University, finds
that the mandated drinking age should be lowered to 18 or 19. If young adults were legally
allowed to drink in controlled environments, then responsible drinking methods could be taught,
resulting in mature behavior when consuming alcohol (Engs, 1). By keeping the drinking age so
high, students or young adults are forced to hide drinking and more often than not, turn to binge
drinking, an unhealthy, addictive, and extremely dangerous form of drinking that often results in
blackouts and alcohol poisoning. Engs states, For example, 22% of all students under 21
compared to 18% over 21 years of age are heavy drinkers. This is not the only issue that arises
from underage drinking. Newsweek writer, Jeffrey A. Tucker, sees that this law is only causing
over indulgence, anti social behavior, disrespect for the law, secrecy and sneaking and a massive
diversion of human energy. To diminish these issues, people are turning towards the examples of
other nations that have managed to maintain low drinking age laws, with low risk results. In other
countries, alcohol is seen as a cultural norm and are taught at young age how to responsibly
consume. However, it is treated the opposite in America, instead, it is seen as how Wil Fulton from
the Huffington Post sees it, forbidden fruit . Fulton states through a claim made by the World
Health Organization, that while Europeans tend to consume more alcohol, Americans still die from
more alcohol related causes. In efforts to change this law and hopefully encourage safe and
responsible drinking, many are turning towards the Amethyst Initiative, a movement created by John

The Importance Of Presidential Power In The Constitution
This presidential power is controversial because it is nowhere mentioned in the U.S. Constitution
(Rozell). The President, since the beginning, has gained powers not specifically enumerated,
increasing the power of the executive branch. Over the course of history the President has assumed
many powers unlisted in the Constitution including the line item veto, executive privilege, and
executive order which have all impacted the President s relationship with Congress.
The line item veto was used very briefly during the Clinton administration before it was later
declared unconstitutional, though it was wanted by many other administrations. The line item veto
is defined as, A special form of veto in which the chief executive has the right to prevent particular
provisions of a bill enacted by a legislative assembly from becoming law without having to kill all
the other parts of the bill at the same time (Johnson). An example of the president using the line
item veto is Bill Clinton, which vetoed part of the Balanced Budget Act which, relinquished the
Federal Government s ability to recoup nearly $2.6 billion in taxes levied against Medicaid
providers ( Clinton v. City of New York
. ). The line item veto was then declared unconstitutional
because of the President s ability to amend legislation that was already passed by both houses of
congress, and declared that the President must totally reject or accept a bill. One major challenge
towards the line item veto is that

Much Ado About Nothing Themes
Does love ever hit as hard as a rock? Does it feel like you re happier you just enlightened? Well
not always. William Shakespeare is an all time legend for the genre of comedy.. He created the
much ado about nothing play which is still relevant today. The play much ado about nothing
portrays strong themes such as love, self deception and appearances vs reality. We all desire to be
loved ? although many of our relationships these days don t always go as planned, in many
relationships lies are thrown around and the relationship becomes deceptive and trust is broken.
Throughout the playwritten by Shakespeare love is introduced between the young and royal
Claudio and Hero. Love doesn t really work out at the beginning of the play for the young couple

No matter how many different qualities you have, you are beautiful the way you are, no matter
what people say or think about you, you just keep on going forward with your life because
everyone is beautiful in their own little way. Leslie Marmon Silko is a Native
American of the Laguna Pueblo people. She speaks about her people s interactions with the
antelope people and the way her people haunted them. Silko goes on to tell her people s tale of the
earth s origin. The Laguna Pueblo people have a more personal relationship with their plants. Her
grandma A mood would tell Silko stories when she was younger about some stuff that had
happened to her, and Silko would always have flashbacks about them. Her grandmother had passed,
and she will talk about all the memories she had with her, and her grandma was the only one that
accepted the facted that Silko was different because her grandmother was also different. The
structures Leslie Marmon Silko uses to make the structure convincing, clear, and engaging in

Rhetorical Analysis on Deborah Tannen s Argument Culture
A Move towards Better Communication
Deborah Tannen graduated from The University of California, Berkely, M.A. in 1979 with her
PHD in Linguistics. She is a professor of linguistics at Georgetown University. Tannen has written
many books where she applies her theory of Linguistics to everyday situations. Some of her
books are: That s Not What I Meant!: How Conversational Style Makes or Breaks Relationship
(1986), Talking from 9 to 5: How Women s and Men s Conversational Styles Affect Who Gets
Heard (1994), The Argument Culture: Moving from Debateto Dialogue(1998), and I Only Say This

Not to make them change, but to think about the way you handle a conflict. There is one point
in the essay that Tannen goes off in a different direction and loses your attention. She goes from
talking about high tech communication pulling us apart to road rage. She stated Road rage
shows how dangerous the argument culture and especially today s technologically enhanced
aggression can be. (406) I had a hard time seeing the relationship between the Road rage and
technology. Though road rage is definitely dangerous, I did not feel that this was relevant at this
point in the essay. Tannen s intended audience for this essay is the society as a whole; she is
addressing each and every one of us. At some time or another in our life we have come upon a
situation where we have to decide whether we fight for our own beliefs and opinions or if we let
someone else shape the way that we feel. Should we go to war with them?, no, but we should
stand up for what we believe in. In this essay this is what Tannen is attempting to get across
though she wants you to look at all sides of the problem and just not the main two. The wording of
this essay was easy to follow; she for the most part keeps on track with her thoughts. She transitions
from one example to another very well and breaks her different thoughts into separate parts. The
sentences are well written they were not long, but were long enough to get the point across. The

Labor Unions in the Late 1800 s Essay
Labor Unions in the Late 1800 s
Labor unions in the late 1800 s set out to improve the lives of frequently abused workers. Volatile
issues like the eight hour workday, ridiculously low pay and unfair company town practices were
often the fuses that lit explosive conflicts between unions and monopolistic industrialists. Some of
the most violent and important conflicts of the time were the Haymarket Affair and the Pullman
strike. Each set out to with similar goals and both ended with horrifying consequences. The
movement for the eight hour workday was one of the most violent struggles for laborers. Their
struggle is defined by protests that were broken up by the police and the Pinkertons. The

Many homes, meeting halls, and offices where outspoken supporters of the eight hour movement
lived and worked were raided without warrant. Oscar Neebe, Adolph Fisher, August Spies, Louis
Lingg, Michael Schwab, Samuel Fielden, Carl Engel, and Albert Parsons were charged with the
trumped up charge of accessory to murder for the riot. They were all brought to trial, even though
many of the men were not even at Haymarket Square at the time of the melee.
With a jury of twelve men found all of the defendants guilty. After an appeal to the Supreme Court,
Spies, Parsons, Fischer and Engel were sentenced to hang. Neebe, Fielden and Schwab were given
life sentences. Louis Lingg most likely would have served a life sentence as well, however, he
committed suicide.

Athenian Vs. Spartan Women
Despite Athenian and Spartans being associates of the same influential nation, these two states or
Peloi and denominations of people in Ancient Greece in (400BC) were substantially different. The
women in their own distinct societies endured several problematic issues and experienced inequity,
demoralisation and condemnation. The notion of women and their purpose was typically
conjectured by men in society, specifically Aristotle who claimed that women brought disorder,
were evil, were utterly useless and caused more confusion than the enemy . However despite
misogynistic, biased and loathsome perspectives of women, both Athenian and Spartan women
have all played exceedingly significant roles and contributed substantially to the prosperity of
Ancient Greek society in their own inimitable ways. Daily life was one of the most distinguishable
factors of Athenian and Spartan women, and it varied depending on social status. The communal
job of Athenian women was confinement to daily life in their domain; the home or oikos ,
immersing themselves in domestic activities. This notion was verified by ancient writer
Xenophon; ...Thus, to be woman it is more honourable to stay indoors than to abide in the fields...
.They were responsible for various jobs in order to support their families including cooking meals
and producing textiles. The majority of affluent women had established slave work in their homes;
hence they verified their decadence by not partaking in laborious work

2.The employee rights during the employee relationship 2.1.The importance of work life balance
and related legislation concerning holidays, rest periods, working hours and night working It is
imperative that the employee can balance his/her working life against his/her personal life.
With sufficient time off and rest periods, employees will feel looked after and be motivated to
put in more effort. There will be a reduction of mistakes because the employee has had adequate
rest which results in a more positive working environment. Employers who introduce such
practices in the work place in order to help employees achieve a better and satisfactory work/life
balance can expect to see an increase in motivation, enhanced performance/productivity and
greater staff loyalty. By implementing a positive work/life balance, companies are successful,
secure a good reputation and promote positive employee relations. The Working Time
Regulations 1998 stipulates that employers should provide employees with the following basic
rights: 28 days holiday (paid) for full time employees (part time employees would receive this on a
pro rata basis); a rest period of 20 minutes every 6 hours worked 11 hours rest every 24 hours a

A Survey Of Theories Of International Migration
This literature review starts with a survey of theories of international migration, the emergence of
Filipino Labour Diaspora, focusing on the role of the Philippine state. Consequently, it examines
the role of Canadian state in attracting FLCMs to work as domestic workers in Canada. Lastly, it
examines the role of the market in perpetuating gender role and victimization in labor diaspora.
1.Theories of International Migration
Theories of international migration studies often neglect the role of the state that produces and
shape the process. Yet, politics and the states underlie much of the international migration
movements through immigration policies and institutionalized bureaucracy related to migration.
For instance, both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, the state is integrated only when it deals with market expansion, political power or any other
capitalist interests of the government. Conversely, the social capital theory explains structural
links, such as the memberships gained from networks and social institutions both in countries of
origin and destination. Lastly, the theory of cumulative causation explains the personal, social and
economic changes, which migration brings to an individual and its community (Massey 1999).
Here the role of states is left behind or if it is mentioned, it one sidedly deals with receiving
countries.
2.Overseas Filipino Workers and the Role of the State
This section aims to trace the emergence of Filipino labour diaspora by relying on historical
analysis to understand the role of the state in fostering out migration to the Philippines. Milton
Esman defined diaspora as a minority ethnic group of migrant origin which maintains sentimental
or material links with its land of origin. Diaspora studies in the 1980s and 1990s surfaced as a
sociological approach to account for international migration and assimilation. Diasporas are
believed to not have assimilated into their host country, and consciously share a collective memory
because they formed an imagined community and a global village made possible by globalization.
James Clifford adds that diasporas maintain links to their homeland with the desire for eventual

Music Vs. Art Education
Much too often in America today, modern music and art programs in schools are perceived to many
as extracurricular activities rather than important subjects that are vital to a student s learning and
skill development. The truth of the matter is that encouraging music and art education in public
schools has a much larger impact on student s grades, academic performance, and the economy than
the majority people realize. Within the next year city schoolbudgets will be dropping by twenty five
percent, and despite the fact that music and art programs have been showing a dramatic
contribution to student s learning, this substantial drop in funding for the programs will lead to no

Music and art are clearly not two subjects that schools today can afford to cut off funding for
based on this evidence. Music and art programs are responsible for increasing school attendance,
which can lead to being one of the most important things in a student s academic success in school.
Students have to attend school and be present in order to attain the information from their classes
and teachers if they wish to succeed. Better attendance means more students are in class, which
means more students are getting the information they need to excel from their teachers, which
ultimately means better grades and test scores for schools. As of today, arts are defined as core
subjects in only twenty six states in America (Mandel). If only twenty six states are treating art
education as a core subject, that means that twenty four states are currently neglecting art programs
and not considering them important to their student s education. If more states are educated on the
importance of art programs for young students, and the arts are defined as core subjects nationally,
then there will be a noticeable increase in academic achievement across the nation. Art programs
have been proven to increase the academic performance of student in schools, and until these
twenty four states treat art as a core subject, their students will continue to

Examples Of Memory In Gurdjieff
Further, he warns that it is a long and arduous struggle. There is no short cut as regards efforts or as
regards shortening of time. One has to go through the grind, through the disciple, through the work .
Self remembering of Gurdjieff
As already mentioned, Self remembering of Gurdjieff is what we have been talking about in the
thesis as Awareness. According to him, Self remembering (or self observation), is an artificial
division of attention within oneself. A part of consciousnessis weaned back, which is nothing but
adopting the witnessing aspect. One part of our consciousness is engaged in the activity, physical or
mental, while another part is watching this part thus functioning. Whenever our consciousness

Gurdjieff brings about beautifully the distinction between Knowledge and Being. While we are
developing on the knowledge front, we are acutely lagging behind on the Being front. Progress
along the line of being entailed our struggling with our weaknesses the chief weakness being the
weakness of waking sleep .
Man s development should move equally parallel along the lines of knowledge and Being.
Unfortunately, it is knowledge which is overemphasized at the cost of being (his essence; all that a
man stood for). Man s knowledge depended upon his being. Man s being is different from that of
the stone, plant and animal. But even among human beings, there are great distances between
beings of human beings, one from the other.
Knowledge and Understanding:
Gurdjieff differentiated between knowledge and understanding in that knowledge was fragmentary,
while understanding was unifying. Understanding was the outcome of a certain relationship
between knowledge and being. Understanding happens when one realizes the relationship between
knowledge and being. That is to say with understanding man gravitates towards his Being.
Understanding thus is

marginal.
вћўA progressive tax, which the friend would be under in this situation, is one in which those
with the highest incomes pay the higher tax rate (Video Engager 2). I would advise this friend
to take a closer look at the situation; just because he is earning more money does not necessarily
mean he will lose more of what he earns to taxes. Instead, different safety features are built into
the process to ensure that those who earn more are not prevented from working harder or getting
a promotion. For example, those with a higher income can be incentivized through tax breaks
from giving to charity or even saving for retirement (Video Engager 2). These benefits encourage
those in the higher income brackets to continue to be motivated to earn more. In addition, the tax
rates on higher income are marginalized. Marginal tax rates mean that a high earner will only pay
the higher tax on the portion of money that is above the tax bracket. In other words, everyone will
pay the same percentage of tax on the first bracket of income, any income above that bracket will
be taxed at a slightly higher rate, and

The Management Of The East Central Railway
INTRODUCTION Samastipur is an administrative center for the East Central Railway.
Mechanical workshop, Samastipur was established in 1881 for overhauling of Steam
locomotives, POH of coaches and wagons. It originally belonged to Bengal North Western
Railway (BNWR) and subsequently merged in state owned Oudh Tirhut Railway (OTR) on 1st
April 1943. Later on, after formation of zones, it became a workshop of North Eastern Railway.
Subsequent to restructuring of zonal Railways, it has come under East Central Railway. At
present, this workshop manufactures BOXNHL wagons. The workshop is also ISO 9001:2008
certified. TOI reported that the Samastipur workshop of the East Central Railway has achieved a
rare feat by manufacturing stainless steel wagons having the axle load capacity of about 22.29
tonnes. This workshop is the second unit of the Indian Railways where stainless steel wagons
have been successfully manufactured. According to an ECR press release, the special feature of
this kind of wagons is that it has less weight compared to old conventional wagons but it has the
capacity to load about 71 tonnes freight while the old wagon has the capacity to load about 58.81

A Historical Critique of Homosexual Exclusions from the Armed Forces using the concepts of
Michel Foucault
From 1989 to 1999, the time period of the Clinton Administration, a homosexual force entered the
American consciousness. Court cases and rhetoric of the 80s incited a discourse in which
homosexuality was re articulated, re negotiated, and unmistakably re repressed (Davis 3). Supreme
Court judgment and actions taken by Congress with the Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy exemplify
theories of sexuality and power expressed in the philosophies of Michel Foucault.
Foucault was a French born ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foucault saw the importance of the matter to lie in how the discourse on sexuality in our culture
has paradoxically produced repression.
Repression in modern society is a complex process. Foucault s work divides pre modern sexual acts
from modern sexual identities and sexualities (Lochrie 86). Foucault explained that the discussion
of sexuality itself was restricted in a few areas. After the eighteenth century he noted an institutional
incitement to speak about [sex]... a determination on the part of the agencies of power to hear it
spoken about, and to cause it to speak through explicit articulation and endlessly accumulated detail
(18). This proliferation of discourse had the effect of increasing encroachment of state law onto the
issue of private sexuality.
Foucault s analysis was considered radical. This aspect of societal repression and subsequent
obsession plays an important role in understanding the reactionary political movements concerning
homosexuals in the military. This will be examined after a discussion of the functions of sexuality
and power.
In The History of Sexuality, this examination also focused on the functions of sexuality and power.
He created the term Biopower, which refers to the regulation of subjects by the state. This
regulation occurs through an explosion of numerous and diverse techniques for achieving the

John Updike A P Analysis
In the story A P by John Updike, the narrator Sammy is a local grocery clerk in a small town. He
is a young man thrown into conflict with his older manager, Lengel over young female customers.
Sammy was intrigued teenage girls, and he struggled for distinguishing fantasy of romance and the
reality of the responsibilityhis manager has placed on him as an employee. This story focuses on the
conflict between the older generationand the new age by comparing the characters. The author
described Sammy as a working class person; however, he was only 19 years old and adolescence

First, he shows himself preparing his climax moment through the intellectual and creative
personality. If a static or dynamic character is in the story, Sammy is considered a dynamic

them how doing it, walk slow and hold yourself straight (1290). He has been fascinated by them,
and he gives a creative name in the way they walk and moves in stores. This creativity is a
mediator that leads to new thinking and growth when the crisis comes. Second, when the conflict
reached a climax, he chose his own way with his heroism. After Lengel gave Sammy the
opportunity to withdraw the impulsive declaration, the door heaves it open, and outside the
sunshine is skating around on the asphalt (1294). This mention emphasizes the Sammy s personal
fulfillment and sincerity. He knows he regrets his decision to quit A P, but he will not avoid his

Organic Farming Can Not Feed The World Essay
Ever since the Agricultural Revolution, farming has always been organic. As the human population
grew, conventional farming, farming with non organic methods (using synthetic fertilizers and
pesticides), became prevalent to satisfy the population s demand for food. Recently, organic farming
has attracted consumers for its health, environmental, and agricultural benefits versus conventional
farming, however, there is a debate whether organic farmingcan produce enough food to satisfy the
current population of 7 billion people and future populations on Earth. Ed Hamer and Mark Anslow
argue in 10 Reasons Why Organic Can Feed the World that organic farming can produce enough
food to satisfy today s population, while D.J. Connor argues otherwise in Organic Agriculture
Cannot Feed the World . Even though organic farming has plenty advantages over conventional
farming, we should stick to improving conventional farming because the projections for organic
farming that Hamer and Anslow use are misleading. Hamer and Anslow state 10 arguments on
why organic farming can feed the world. The first argument they make is that organic farming
yields exceed those of conventional farming. It has greater yields in less industrialized countries,
which in an analysis of more than 286 organic conversions in 57 [less industrialized] countries, the
average yield increase was found to be an impressive 64 percent (71). In industrialized countries

Realismism And Realism
Years before World War One began, Germany was afraid of their neighbors. At the time right
before World War One, Russia had a population that was far beyond any of its neighboring
countries. However, Russia had yet to fully industrialize. Through a fear of the rise of Russia,
Germany decided a war was more favorable than peace negotiations and allowing Russia to climb
in power. Dale Copeland and other Realismtheorist s show that World War One was caused by
Germany (who was fearing a decline), pushed for a preventative war against Russia and tried to
make it seem as it was Russia s fault. Realism is a theory that involves international politics
focusing mainly on the role of each nation state. The theory focuses on the motivations of each
state by their own national interests and usually disguise these interests as moral concerns (in
order to get the citizens on board). There are five major assumptions that go along with Realism.
First states are the main actors. In the case of World War One, Germany was focused on other
country s rise due to their material capabilities and geographic positions. Second, is that the
international system is anarchic. During World War One, there was no global government making
sure a war did not happen. Every state was negotiating for themselves, and Germany had no desire
for peace. A third assumption of realism is each state is uncertain of another state s intentions.
Germany was afraid of what Russia would want once it became industrialized

Protecting the Australian Native Ecosystem
Ecosystem is an important part of the environment and to protect the Australian native
ecosystem many management plans are made to preserve it. Where the disruption occurred in
the environment by human activities is not only the factor of worry, but also the exotic plants
which are trying to take over the native species are a matter of concern too. The steps taken by
humans to get rid of their own waste from the environment as well as the weeds, come under
management plans. On the excursion to Buckley s Hole, Godwin Beach, Red Beach and
Melaleuca Wetland, it was observed that these areas come under the Buckley s Hole
Management Plan. Where the abiotic and biotic factors interact with each other and help in
sustainability of better environment. But the Buckley s Hole Management Plan is not quite
successful plan to save the affected areas. The plan was implemented in 1998 (Department of
Environment Staff, 1998) and is useful to some extent but has not proved its effectiveness in all
the areas. The current hole was formed in 1980 in the tidal inlet known as Yabby Patch Creek
and became a breeding ground for the mosquitoes and a resting spot for the migratory birds (The
Real Buckley s Hole, 1980). The main reason for the execution of this plan was due to its great
framework that could preserve the Australian heritage of flora and fauna but it could be seen on
the day that it was not that applicable to fully protect the native species. However at the Buckley s

Analysis Of The Poem Maus My Father Bleed History Essay
The curiosity of Artie about Vladek saying that Anja was not pretty, during the fight between
Vladek and Lucia, incites Artie to interrupt Vladek s story of the past. The interruptions that Art
Spiegelman writes into his comic, Maus My Father Bleed History, breaks up Vladek s story about
surviving the Holocaust, which is what happens in the scene with Vladek and Lucia s fight.
Spiegelman uses the interruptions of Vladek s story to lead out of it and then back into Mausto
assist in clarifying information for the reader, to show the father son relationship between Artie and
Vladek, and also to explain how Maus was written.
The incidents that Spiegelman uses within his panels and text work as a way to give insight into
how Artie and Vladek s father son relationship works. A case in which Artie and Vladek s
relationship is shown is right after Vladek tells Artie the story about Lucia and he says, But this is
what I just told you about Lucia and so I don t want you should write this in your book
(Spiegelman 23). To help interrupt Vladek s story Spiegelman makes the panel in which this
dialogue takes place have no border around it, which gives the panel a sense of breaking up the
story that Vladek was telling to Artie. Vladek interrupting his story shows that while he felt this was
important information for Artie to know, he does not want it in the comic. Thus this story being in
the comic along with Artie s reaction in the comic show the reader the differing views and the

The Surveillance Of Law Enforcement Officers
Recent media stories have caused uproars among communities and riots against law
enforcement agencies due to publications of pictures or video footage of law enforcement
officers exhibiting the use of force. Due to these recent cases, many are requiring a reform in the
surveillance of law enforcement officers to provide viable evidence to support their case on the
degree of force they used during the incident in question. One of the majorly used and promoted
reforms is the use of body worn cameras on all officers during their shift. Research and studies
have promoted this technique as it offers many advantages to help resolve the issues faced. Body

Complaints of officer behaviors clutter the paperwork in law enforcement agencies since numerous
reports are filed daily and previously, investigations were based on the officer s statement of events
and the defendant s recollection of the events. Therefore, both statements conflict due to no reliable
evidence to prove the officer s innocence or guilt. The recordings found from the body worn
cameras provide reliable recordings to help investigate the complaints, resolve complaints with
evidence, strengthen officer accountability and improve law enforcement agencies transparency
(Coudert, Butin, Metayer, 2015). To aid in the transparency of law enforcement agencies to the
public and to build the rapport between the two parties, all recordings through police body worn
cameras are considered to be public access. The Freedom of Information Act allows anyone to
request access to recordings and images from the cameras. Although, each request requires
significant police workforces to add to their work load to protect privacy of all involved. All
faces must be blurred, sensitive information removed or mute the audio all together is required
prior to submitting the recordings to the requestor. Storage only keeps recordings of incidents
using force, incidents in question of complaint, or possible misconduct in which only these
recordings allow public disclosure (Smykla, Crow, Crichlow, Synder, 2016). The use of force is

impactful events of the early 1900s and soon helped set motion into the era of labor reforms. On

The letter titled Trade in Quebec City: general trade of the country and of his Majesty s domain
was written in year 1709. It was the time when British rulers were trying to attain the profit as
much as they can on north America, before the control of British rulers it was a colony of French
as the author stated the entire colony is granted as seigneuries and as the custom of Paris is
observed here (father Antoine Silvy 97). The reason stated to write this letter was to pass
information regarding trade between Quebec and other cities to the Majesty the king of England.
The exchange in goods were between various states, such as America, French, British and several

Steps And Guidelines The Partners Declan And Serena Essay
1) In order to form a partnership in Ontario there are various steps and guidelines the partners
Declan and Serena have to abide with. 1)Identity of Partners: The partners have to be 18 years or
older. There has to be a minimum of 2 partners or more to create a partnership. Each partner has to
sign a document that represents the establishment of the partnership and the interest to create the
partnership. There are different kinds of partnerships, i.e. LLP, Equity Partners, and Non Equity
Partners etc. The partners have to state the nature of their partnership for example each partners
contribution to the business, profit sharing tactics and voting entitlement of the partners. 2)Name of
the Company: In order to create a partnership a name must be established and the partnership has
to undertake their business under this name. If they decide to change the name or use a name that
already exists, it will result in the loss of goodwill, an injunction for infringement against the
partnership and the respective partners. They have to make sure the name is not copyrighted or
trademarked by another existing company. Searches for trademark can be done online too. 3)Term
of Partnership: A term has to be signed for partnership, starting from the commencing date or the
date when the partnership was signed. A term can also be interpreted as an advantage because if the
company is not doing well according to the partners agreement, when the term ends each partner

Cant Hardly Wait Compared To The Canterbury Tales
Canterbury Tales Compare/Contrast Essay
Satire as described by the Webster dictionary is a way of using humor to show the weaknesses or
bad qualities of a person, government, society, etc. One of the first examples of satirical English
writing was Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales. The CanterburyTales revolve around an
eclectic group of pilgrims on a religious journey to St. Thomas Beckett s shrine . The true intent
of this classic tale was to expose all of 14th century England to the corruptness of the cast system
in London. Chaucer executed his purpose by including characters of various statures into his
story and discreetly criticizing them by using humor. In doing so he also criticized the morals of
aristocracy at that time. Centuries later Chaucer s interpretation of society continues to be used
in literature and other forms of art today. Can t Hardly Wait is an example of a film that
embodies Chaucer s ideas. This cheesy 1990s classic romance is set at a high school graduation
party. The main plot of a boy trying to get his dream girl is simply an unimportant factor compared
to screenwriter Deborah Kaplan s true purpose: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

abuse his power. The attire of the Knight proved that he not only worked hard but also lived
modestly. Although he was wealthy, his cloaks did not readily support that fact, for He wore a

A Study On the Correlation between Social Status and...
Spring, 2013
INTRODUCTION
The main aim of this paper is to examine whether there are significant differences in academic
performance of students of ............. University with regard to their social background. There are
social differences among students that create social inequality, mainly due to the existence of
classes in society. Students representing different social classes can achieve different results in
their career paths. The paper s point of departure is that there are great deals of socio economic

These conceptualizations include social class as more than just an economic measure. For example,
Weber saw property, skills, and education all contributing to the concept of social class, which is
sometimes used interchangeably with socioeconomic status.3 He argued that social class has three
dimensions of stratification: class, status and party and that these three dimensions are distinct
entities and cannot be resolved under the single concept of class.
Thus, in brief from the concept of social class we understand a group of people within a society
who posess the same socioeconomic status.
HYPOTHESIS
Preposition: Students who represent upper social class are more successful than others (positive
relationship)
H(null): There is NO relationship between the level of social class and the level of academic
success.
CONCEPTUALIZATION
A social class is a group of people that is characteristic of owning the same social, economic,
political position on the basis of which is placed in different hierarchical occupations. Besides this
leads to social differentiations. So the concepts that need to be explained within the scope of this
research are social class, social background and success.

In order to research the validity of the hypothesis, the conceptualization process is used at first. The

Edgar Allan Poe Quotes About Death
Mors ultima linea rerum est ( Latin Quotes about Death ): this quote from Horace perfectly sums
up the theme of the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe suffered much loss throughout his life first
with the loss of his mother, then his adopted mother, his first love, and finally his wife thus
explaining why Poe commonly uses deathas a theme in his works. Poe also commonly writes about
women and youth, with the presence of death bringing a depressing and ominous undertone. Death
exists in the happiest and saddest of subjects. The Bells, which judging by the first two sections
the reader can assume will be a celebration of life, turns into a chaotic and then solemn story of
death. Annabel Lee, which also begins in a light and happy mood,... Show more content on

to shed his romantic melancholia (Magistrale 40). The narrator of The Raven holds on to his

The reader then begins to also see death as barrier and can feel the same sadness that the narrator
himself is feeling. The bird brings about mixed feelings within the narrator. At first, the bird
amuses the narrator , but quickly frustrates him when the bird s only responds nevermore : the
narrator wonders if he will reencounter [Lenore] in the afterlife, and finally if the narrator
himself will ever find peace in her absence. To each of these questions the bird s consistent reply
infuriates him at the same time as it deepens his sense of loss (Magistrale 39 40). This
questioning of life after death can make a reader feel quite crestfallen as it can make him or her
wonder whether or not he or she will see a loved one again. The raven has always been a bad

Understanding the Underground Dancer
If you have seen him in clubs, in parties, and even in the street you will surely remember him. The

therefore, often misunderstood. It is hard to pinpoint what he is, and what he looks like, all I can

It is his favorite song and all the dreams are flushed away, his spiteful stare returning to this oh,

man he may swear inside him, and like Dostoevsky s Underground Man he will let out a high
pitched cry that speaks: Enough! This world is not enough! He is still motionless for although
he wants to dance, his mind is not at ease what is the use of dancing anyway, when all the
troubles of the world burden his shoulders (Kaufmann 71, 72)? He remains inert, perhaps slightly
trembling, a tingling anticipation of an unknown surge tickling his soul. His inaction drives him
insane because if he refuses to dance without a reason, he will remain inert but if, on the other
hand, dances without a reason, his lack of determination will manifest itself as self
consciousness and fall pray to the eyes of his audience. But who ever heard of rationality as
prerequisite for action? The whole of History is littered with examples of irrational choices, where
man acts without consideration for reason or advantage. The Underground Dancer realizes this,
and does not wish for himself a good, virtuous or advantageous choice but simply to satisfy his
own caprice, in a sense, feed his own desire for the single most advantageous advantage :
independent choice (72). He must dance,

Accordingly, technology is the main key when dealing with roller coasters because without it,
how would the car move? For example, it would be a pretty slow and weird ride if 20 workers

the tracks and this creates lots of amounts of friction. For example, when the car begins to take

ta quit playin whenever it gets dark out, complained Jimmy as he kicked up some dirt off the
field. Yeah, well it s kinda hard to do that when we ain t got no electricity out here, his brother
Noah replied solemly. The worst part is that we were actually winnin for once Jimmy! The boys
went home dissapointed that night after coming so close to their first win this year. Momma we re
home! The boys shouted together as they walked through the front door. They made their way to
the kitchen where they knew dinner would be waiting for them. Jimmy and Noah sat down at the
table and instantly started shoving food in their mouths, practically inhaling it. How was your day
boys? Their mother asked with enthusiasm all over her face. She genuinely loved hearing about
their games. Well momma we lost our first gamepretty bad, but I really think we woulda won the
next one if we could ve finished the stupid thing. It s just impossible to see anything out there when
it starts gettin dark, ya know? Jimmy was talking with food in his mouth, but she could understand
enough to figure out what he was saying. Yeah I know what you mean, but until there s electricity

My Mistress Eyes Figurative Language Essay
Wiry hair, bad breath, pale face these don t seem like the words you would use towards someone
you love. Shakespeare uses these terms to describe his romantic partner in the poem My Mistress
Eyes. At first glance, the reader could mistake this for a love poem. In reality, this poem illustrates
how someone could find fault in the one they think they love. As a result of Shakespeare s romantic
preferences and that he wrote many poems about love, My Mistress Eyes seems to be about love
between a man and a woman, but the speaker in the poem critiques his mistress through figurative
language, rhythm and rhyme, and a romantic mood.
In this specific poem Shakespeare uses figurative language to make it seem like a love poem but
makes you read it twice to really understand what he is actually saying about his significant other.
One of the main forms of figurative language in this poem is shown in metaphors. These are
important to the poem to make the comparison of her features to other objects. If hairs be wires,
black wires grow on her head. (Ln 4) Her hair is thick, rough and messy as if they were actually
wires, not nice and smooth like you would want hair to be.
This poem is also filled with similes. My ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mood is brought to the surface by the choice of words used within the text. In the poem he
uses words like love, rose, goddess, and heaven that support the loving mood. He then uses
words like reeks and dun to contradict the mood he sets up beforehand. Another example of
contradicting the mood would be, I love to hear her speak, yet well I know/ That music hath a
far more pleasing sound. (Lns 9 10) He likes to hear her voice yet he knows that music is more
pleasing. In his writing he makes us imagine a realistic woman not a model or a dream woman as
some would say. This says a lot about the speaker by bringing to light the real meaning of his love

The Universal Intracellular Messenger, Calcium ( Ca2 + )
The universal intracellular messenger, Calcium (Ca2+ ) regulates a wide range of cellular
processes such as gene transcription, muscle contraction and cell proliferation. Ca2+ diffuses into
organelles such as mitochondria and the nucleus as it is elevated in the cytosol (Martin D
Bootman, 2006). Ca2+ is suited to this role as an intracellular messenger as it is a divalent cation
and therefore it can form more stable complexes with other compounds compared to monovalent
ions like magnesium and chloride. Moreover, Ca2+ has a larger radius and a stable electron
configuration which provides flexibility that allows the formation of bonds with coordination sites
that have irregular geometry (Bading, 2013). Although Ca2+ is important for cells the cytosolic
concentration is maintained at a nanomolar concentration. Therefore, cells have obtained different
ways to cope with this situation by reducing their cytosolic levels (Clapham, 2007). Ca2+
concentration inside cells is controlled by counteracting processes that act as on and off
mechanisms based on whether they serve to increase or decrease cytosolic Ca2+ levels (Martin D
Bootman, 2006). Ca2+ cannot be chemically altered within cells. Therefore to control Ca2+, cells
must chelate, compartmentalize or extrude it in order to maintain nanomolar concentrations of the
ion (Clapham, 2007). Ca2+ on mechanisms consist of channels located at the plasma membrane
(PM) that controls the amount of Ca2+ entering the intracellular Ca2+

Trinity County Railroad Case
Trinity County s decision this week to nix a study that sought to test the feasibility of a rail line
that would have purportedly ran from Eureka eastwards was a loss for business interest and a win
for environmental interest, groups on either side claimed. Supervisors in the county declined to
second the motion by their colleague Bill Burton at a Thursday reportedly packed meeting to move
forward with the $345,000 study, according to Trinity County Supervisor John Fenley. A mix of
grant and donated funds were earmarked to finance the study. A train would have been an
ecological disaster, said Tom Wheeler with the Environmental Protection Information Center in

Nobody had an open mind. Wheeler said his organization s environmental concerns drew on
plans that indicated the rail line would cross run across or near rivers that included the Trinity
River, Mad River and Van Duzen River. Development of a rail line could disturb sediment

As one of the most important stops in the Pacific Flyway and a critical aquatic ecosystem home to
engendered fish, such as coho salmon and eulachon, Humboldt Bay is a unique ecological
treasure, the statement said. The development necessary to make Humboldt Bay a major West
Coast port is extreme and would spoil the bay s natural beauty and ecological integrity. Wheeler

Northern Spotted Owl. On its boost the economy, Wheeler said he doubted the trains ability to spur
economic activity and said any economic boost from a port would be lost on Trinity

Joan of Arc Biography
Joan d Arc was one of the most popular Renaissance warriors and is famously known for her
battle at Orleans, which she won, at only 18 years of age. When she rose to fame, Joan was often
called the Maid of Lorraine, showing that she was the peasant girl from Lorraine.
Born in 1412, Jeanne d Arc, more commonly known as Joan of Arc, was raised in the small village
of DomrГ©my, located in Lorraine, France. Her parents, Jacques d Arc and Isabelle RomГ©e,
were mere peasants that also helped raise her 4 siblings, Jean d Arc, Pierre d Arc, Catherine d
Arc, and Jacquemin d Arc. As a child, Joan often had to deal with wars, financial struggles, a
corrupt government, and the slaying of innocent people, often for no reason. This was because
of the simultaneous deaths of the kings of France, King Henry V, and England, King Charles
VI. With them dead, the only heirs to the throne were Charles, who may not have been Charles
VI s biological son, and Henry, who was Catherine (Charles VI s daughter) and Henry V s son.
There was a dispute between the two countries as to who would rule the other, as Henry was
only an infant and Charles might not have really been an heir. As a result, the Hundred Years War
was fought between the two countries. As Henry grew older, the war raged on. He was eventually
crowned king, but didn t use any of his power to try to win the Hundred Years War; this gives
Henry the title of a Dauphin, someone who has the power to rule but hasn t taken the initiative; like

Classifying Different Types of Shoppers
In today s world things are a lot different than the way they used to be. People are becoming much
more alert and aware of things that are going on around them. Many people do not enjoy doing
things that other people enjoy. It can be a win or lose situation. There are some things in life that
people have to do whether they wantto or not. Throughout many different places many people
have to go do this on a daily basis. Lots of men usually do not want to be involved. It is usually
left for the women to take over. There are very many types of shoppers that people deal with on a
daily basis, they are different in many ways such as, children, young adults, and senior citizens.
By all means, shopping can be difficult for children for many reasons. To start, they are very
impatient. They do not want to wait for their parents to get done shopping, whatever they want
they expect to get it now.. When checking out at the register everything is in their reach. They are
then grabbing things and throwing that in the cart as well. Also, it is difficult with children
shopping because sometimes they can be combative. If a child does not get what they want then
they will most of the time throw themselves down and have a tantrum. It makes the parents look
so bad, as well as the child who is acting out. It is not good to be combative because then someone
may get hurt. After all, children shoppers do not care how much anything cost. They will just pick
any and everything up and place

Advantages Of Auftragstaktik
Introduction As one American veteran of Normandy and the Rhineland puts it: until you ve fought
the German army, you have never fought a real battle (Bungay, 2003). One of the reasons of such a
reputation is the Auftragstaktik an effective command philosophy which origins from Prussia in
early 19th century, which in contrast to direct command approach is mission oriented and based on
local initiative within the superior s intent. From the scratch Prussians and Germans managed
developed command philosophy which is adapted by most of modern armies in the temporary
world. Auftragstaktik was not an idea introduced into German military thinking by decree. Far from

From the scope of many factors, in my opinion, there were three most important enabling factors
which affected process during the all developing period. First factor was independent mind set
and military culture of Prussian officers. Scharnhorst opened the intellectual ground for new way
of military thinking. Officer Corps was unlocked for middle class citizens. They were
continuously educated and then selected by merit. This concept was continuously cultivated by
Scharnhorst s successors. They maintained and improved the educational process which built ...
the system of values and beliefs ... that enable Prussian officers to exercise independence of mind
(Stewart, 2010). All this finally produced excellent leaders, with ability for rapid decision in any
level of command. Therefore independence of mind and intelligence became the key enablers for
the development of the indirect command philosophy. Second factor was the strong desire of to
alter the state of the military affairs in order to improve military capabilities. But what is important
that it was not only based on critical study history and lessons learned from wars, but also based on
the analysis of different social and technological innovations. Auftragstaktik represented a
compromise that was necessary to achieve some degree of control in a

Abstract
The printed antenna is one of the most preferred antenna structures for low cost and compact design
of wireless communication systems. In this paper we have investigated a new approach for
improving the radiation efficiency and performance of the antennas with the size miniaturization, in
particular we have simulated two types of UWB printed monopole antennas for proving this
approach with results: circular patch and Compact Miniaturized Semi Circular patch UWB
monopole antennas and in detail investigation was presented on size miniaturization in order to
achieve very compactness and high radiation efficiency with out degradation of the functional
parameters and overall performance. Simple rectangular microstrip lines are used for feeding the
printed monopole antennas. This UWB monopole antenna designed works well for the whole UWB
frequency band 3.1 10.6GHz.
Key Words: UWB, Semicircular, Miniaturization printed monopole antennas, Microstrip lines.

by a ghost or demon, but after seeing the marks it looks like an animal attacked him. I sit back

Radar And The Air And Terrestrial Traffic Controller
INTRODUCTION ON RADARS
Have you ever thought how is a missile launched without seeing the target?
How do the aero planes do blind landing when the weather is not favourable?
How do the air and terrestrial traffic controller know that an unidentified aircraft is trespassing their
region?
The answer to all these questions is radar. These are different applications of radar and the
following thesis will give you an insight in this as well as the efficient methods to makes use of
radar. This thesis also tells why we opt for different pulse compression techniques and optimising
techniques.
WHAT IS RADAR?
Radar is a target detection oriented system which makes use of radio waves to determine the
range, angle, or velocity of the desired target. The target can be any object or weather changes;
they are generally used to detect aeroplanes, submarines and ships, space shuttle, guided missiles,
motor vehicles, weather conditions and formations, and terrain. Radar transmits radio waves or
microwaves that reflect from any object in their path. Radar antenna has a inbuilt transmitter and
receiver usually referred to as trans receiver which is one of its biggest advantage. Apart from
receiving the antenna processes these reflected waves to determine properties of the
object(s).Radar evolved before and during the World War II by several nations secretly to make use
of this marvellous technique to detect the threat coming towards them and to locate the enemy s
position. The term RADAR was

How Did The Capture Of Nazi Germany s Recovery During The...
When the Great Depression began, the British Empire suffered for high unemployment and
poverty. The empire was still recovering from the Great War and the Depression surprised many
government officials. Soon enough, the government took emergency measures to balance the
budget and restore confidence in the pound by issuing an emergency budget, which immediately
instituted a round of cuts in public spending and wages. Public sector wages and unemployment
pay were cut by 10%, and income tax was raised from 4s 6d to 5s in the pound. However, these
measures were unsuccessful as unemployment rose and the gold standard dropped. After years of
measures to combat against the depression, a slow recovery begun in 1934 because of the
withdrawal from the gold standard and the devaluation of the pound. As a result, British exports
became more competitive on world markets. During that period of recovery, Nazi Germany was

  • 2. Why The Coin Doctrine Will Affect The Way Organisations... Counter insurgency (COIN) operations are employed to combat an insurgency. These types of operations present a highly complex operating environment within which conventional warfare is becoming more and more ineffective. COIN operations form are large proportion of modern conflicts and it is forcing organisations to develop new strategies and tactics in order for them to remain within the legal bounds of international humanitarian law (IHL). This essay will explore how committing to a COIN doctrine will affect the way organisations uphold the principles of IHL. It will also explore whether a COIN doctrine will be effective in completing operations. An insurgency is defined by the United States government as the organised use of subversion and violence to seize, nullify or challenge political control of a region . Insurgencies have been present throughout history as a form of warfare, however combatting an insurgency has always been difficult even in the modern era. In recent operations in Afghanistan, religious extremism and ethnic intolerance have given rise to fanatical groups that pose complex challenges which threaten social and political stability. These group utilise all available means in order to gain an advantage as they struggle for the acceptance by the people of the state or region of the legitimacy of one side s claim to power . Results of this include the exploitation of the Laws of Armed Combat (LOAC) and the rules of engagement (ROE) used by COIN forces. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Contributions Of King Philip II King Philip II, born May 21, 1527, son of Charles V and Isabella of Portugal, ruled Spain for over 40 years, contributing greatly to the culture and the shaping Spanish society significantly. Young Philip received an advanced education from multiple prominent mathematicians and tutors such as Juan MartГnez Siliceo and Juan CristГіbal Calvete de Estrella. Despite this education, Philip II still was unable to fluently speak any other languages except for Castilian, which during his rule, made him unpopular to some of his people. As a child, he grew up in the confines of the the royal court of Castile under the care of his mother and two sisters, surrounded by royalty. When Philip II began his rule, Charles V had left his son with a colossal debt of roughly 36 million ducats. Philip II was then forced to take out loans, however with no way to pay these loans back, Spain s economic troubles continued. However, in hopes of reinvigorating the Spanish economy, Spain began to take in loads of silver and gold from the New World, this was known as the Spanish Revolution. Despite this being beneficial to Spain, the majority of western Europe suffered from this due to the inflation that went along with it. As a result, the value of their rivals , the Ottomans , silver coin became unstable, adding to their conflicts. Philip then went on the marry the second of his four wives, Mary I of England. Though, this proved to be a bad idea. Because Philip II was a leader of the Roman Catholic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Drinking Age Debate The beginning of the new year symbolizes resolution, fresh starts, and most importantly change. This year, the month of July will mark the 33rd anniversary of the 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age, the act that states all states must enforce the legal age of 21 to purchase and consume all alcohol. However, with each year modern society is growing, improving, drastically changing. 18 year olds in the U.S. are capable of voting, working full time, engaging in marriage, and are thought of as completely responsible for their actions as they are legally adults, so why are they incapable of being responsible enough to consume alcohol? This is causing many in the U.S. to start questioning the legitimacy or need for this law that inhibits states from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Underage drinking has been occurring since laws were set in place for age qualifications, but it is better serving American society by continuing it because we can t accept lowering the national age? Ruth C. Engs, a professor for Applied Health Sciences at Indiana University, finds that the mandated drinking age should be lowered to 18 or 19. If young adults were legally allowed to drink in controlled environments, then responsible drinking methods could be taught, resulting in mature behavior when consuming alcohol (Engs, 1). By keeping the drinking age so high, students or young adults are forced to hide drinking and more often than not, turn to binge drinking, an unhealthy, addictive, and extremely dangerous form of drinking that often results in blackouts and alcohol poisoning. Engs states, For example, 22% of all students under 21 compared to 18% over 21 years of age are heavy drinkers. This is not the only issue that arises from underage drinking. Newsweek writer, Jeffrey A. Tucker, sees that this law is only causing over indulgence, anti social behavior, disrespect for the law, secrecy and sneaking and a massive diversion of human energy. To diminish these issues, people are turning towards the examples of other nations that have managed to maintain low drinking age laws, with low risk results. In other countries, alcohol is seen as a cultural norm and are taught at young age how to responsibly consume. However, it is treated the opposite in America, instead, it is seen as how Wil Fulton from the Huffington Post sees it, forbidden fruit . Fulton states through a claim made by the World Health Organization, that while Europeans tend to consume more alcohol, Americans still die from more alcohol related causes. In efforts to change this law and hopefully encourage safe and responsible drinking, many are turning towards the Amethyst Initiative, a movement created by John ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Importance Of Presidential Power In The Constitution This presidential power is controversial because it is nowhere mentioned in the U.S. Constitution (Rozell). The President, since the beginning, has gained powers not specifically enumerated, increasing the power of the executive branch. Over the course of history the President has assumed many powers unlisted in the Constitution including the line item veto, executive privilege, and executive order which have all impacted the President s relationship with Congress. The line item veto was used very briefly during the Clinton administration before it was later declared unconstitutional, though it was wanted by many other administrations. The line item veto is defined as, A special form of veto in which the chief executive has the right to prevent particular provisions of a bill enacted by a legislative assembly from becoming law without having to kill all the other parts of the bill at the same time (Johnson). An example of the president using the line item veto is Bill Clinton, which vetoed part of the Balanced Budget Act which, relinquished the Federal Government s ability to recoup nearly $2.6 billion in taxes levied against Medicaid providers ( Clinton v. City of New York . ). The line item veto was then declared unconstitutional because of the President s ability to amend legislation that was already passed by both houses of congress, and declared that the President must totally reject or accept a bill. One major challenge towards the line item veto is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhetorical Analysis on Deborah Tannen s Argument Culture A Move towards Better Communication Deborah Tannen graduated from The University of California, Berkely, M.A. in 1979 with her PHD in Linguistics. She is a professor of linguistics at Georgetown University. Tannen has written many books where she applies her theory of Linguistics to everyday situations. Some of her books are: That s Not What I Meant!: How Conversational Style Makes or Breaks Relationship (1986), Talking from 9 to 5: How Women s and Men s Conversational Styles Affect Who Gets Heard (1994), The Argument Culture: Moving from Debateto Dialogue(1998), and I Only Say This Because I Love You (2001). Not to make them change, but to think about the way you handle a conflict. There is one point in the essay that Tannen goes off in a different direction and loses your attention. She goes from talking about high tech communication pulling us apart to road rage. She stated Road rage shows how dangerous the argument culture and especially today s technologically enhanced aggression can be. (406) I had a hard time seeing the relationship between the Road rage and technology. Though road rage is definitely dangerous, I did not feel that this was relevant at this point in the essay. Tannen s intended audience for this essay is the society as a whole; she is addressing each and every one of us. At some time or another in our life we have come upon a situation where we have to decide whether we fight for our own beliefs and opinions or if we let someone else shape the way that we feel. Should we go to war with them?, no, but we should stand up for what we believe in. In this essay this is what Tannen is attempting to get across though she wants you to look at all sides of the problem and just not the main two. The wording of this essay was easy to follow; she for the most part keeps on track with her thoughts. She transitions from one example to another very well and breaks her different thoughts into separate parts. The sentences are well written they were not long, but were long enough to get the point across. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Labor Unions in the Late 1800 s Essay Labor Unions in the Late 1800 s Labor unions in the late 1800 s set out to improve the lives of frequently abused workers. Volatile issues like the eight hour workday, ridiculously low pay and unfair company town practices were often the fuses that lit explosive conflicts between unions and monopolistic industrialists. Some of the most violent and important conflicts of the time were the Haymarket Affair and the Pullman strike. Each set out to with similar goals and both ended with horrifying consequences. Oscar Neebe, Adolph Fisher, August Spies, Louis Lingg, Michael Schwab, Samuel Fielden, Carl Engel, and Albert Parsons were charged with the trumped up charge of accessory to murder for the riot. They were all brought to trial, even though many of the men were not even at Haymarket Square at the time of the melee. With a jury of twelve men found all of the defendants guilty. After an appeal to the Supreme Court, Spies, Parsons, Fischer and Engel were sentenced to hang. Neebe, Fielden and Schwab were given life sentences. Louis Lingg most likely would have served a life sentence as well, however, he committed suicide. • 10. Athenian Vs. Spartan Women Despite Athenian and Spartans being associates of the same influential nation, these two states or Peloi and denominations of people in Ancient Greece in (400BC) were substantially different. The women in their own distinct societies endured several problematic issues and experienced inequity, demoralisation and condemnation. The notion of women and their purpose was typically conjectured by men in society, specifically Aristotle who claimed that women brought disorder, were evil, were utterly useless and caused more confusion than the enemy . However despite misogynistic, biased and loathsome perspectives of women, both Athenian and Spartan women have all played exceedingly significant roles and contributed substantially to the prosperity of Ancient Greek society in their own inimitable ways. Daily life was one of the most distinguishable factors of Athenian and Spartan women, and it varied depending on social status. The communal job of Athenian women was confinement to daily life in their domain; the home or oikos , immersing themselves in domestic activities. This notion was verified by ancient writer Xenophon; ...Thus, to be woman it is more honourable to stay indoors than to abide in the fields... .They were responsible for various jobs in order to support their families including cooking meals and producing textiles. The majority of affluent women had established slave work in their homes; hence they verified their decadence by not partaking in laborious work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There will be a reduction of mistakes because the employee has had adequate rest which results in a more positive working environment. Employers who introduce such practices in the work place in order to help employees achieve a better and satisfactory work/life balance can expect to see an increase in motivation, enhanced performance/productivity and greater staff loyalty. The truth of the matter is that encouraging music and art education in public schools has a much larger impact on student s grades, academic performance, and the economy than the majority people realize. Within the next year city schoolbudgets will be dropping by twenty five percent, and despite the fact that music and art programs have been showing a dramatic contribution to student s learning, this substantial drop in funding for the programs will lead to no dedicated money for art or music programs (Mezzacappa). Students have to attend school and be present in order to attain the information from their classes and teachers if they wish to succeed. Better attendance means more students are in class, which means more students are getting the information they need to excel from their teachers, which ultimately means better grades and test scores for schools. As of today, arts are defined as core subjects in only twenty six states in America (Mandel). Based on the video Engager you watched in Unit 2, how would you advise this friend? Define marginal tax rates. Then, explain why taxrates in the United States were designed to be marginal. вћўA progressive tax, which the friend would be under in this situation, is one in which those with the highest incomes pay the higher tax rate (Video Engager 2). I would advise this friend to take a closer look at the situation; just because he is earning more money does not necessarily mean he will lose more of what he earns to taxes. Instead, different safety features are built into the process to ensure that those who earn more are not prevented from working harder or getting a promotion. For example, those with a higher income can be incentivized through tax breaks from giving to charity or even saving for retirement (Video Engager 2). These benefits encourage those in the higher income brackets to continue to be motivated to earn more. In addition, the tax rates on higher income are marginalized. Marginal tax rates mean that a high earner will only pay the higher tax on the portion of money that is above the tax bracket. In other words, everyone will pay the same percentage of tax on the first bracket of income, any income above that bracket will be taxed at a slightly higher rate, and ... After the eighteenth century he noted an institutional incitement to speak about [sex]... a determination on the part of the agencies of power to hear it spoken about, and to cause it to speak through explicit articulation and endlessly accumulated detail (18). This proliferation of discourse had the effect of increasing encroachment of state law onto the issue of private sexuality. Foucault s analysis was considered radical. At the time right before World War One, Russia had a population that was far beyond any of its neighboring countries. However, Russia had yet to fully industrialize. Through a fear of the rise of Russia, Germany decided a war was more favorable than peace negotiations and allowing Russia to climb in power. Dale Copeland and other Realismtheorist s show that World War One was caused by Germany (who was fearing a decline), pushed for a preventative war against Russia and tried to make it seem as it was Russia s fault. Realism is a theory that involves international politics focusing mainly on the role of each nation state. The theory focuses on the motivations of each state by their own national interests and usually disguise these interests as moral concerns (in order to get the citizens on board). There are five major assumptions that go along with Realism. First states are the main actors. In the case of World War One, Germany was focused on other country s rise due to their material capabilities and geographic positions. Second, is that the international system is anarchic. During World War One, there was no global government making sure a war did not happen. Every state was negotiating for themselves, and Germany had no desire for peace. The interruptions that Art Spiegelman writes into his comic, Maus My Father Bleed History, breaks up Vladek s story about surviving the Holocaust, which is what happens in the scene with Vladek and Lucia s fight. Spiegelman uses the interruptions of Vladek s story to lead out of it and then back into Mausto assist in clarifying information for the reader, to show the father son relationship between Artie and Vladek, and also to explain how Maus was written. • 34. Steps And Guidelines The Partners Declan And Serena Essay 1) In order to form a partnership in Ontario there are various steps and guidelines the partners Declan and Serena have to abide with. 1)Identity of Partners: The partners have to be 18 years or older. There has to be a minimum of 2 partners or more to create a partnership. Each partner has to sign a document that represents the establishment of the partnership and the interest to create the partnership. There are different kinds of partnerships, i.e. LLP, Equity Partners, and Non Equity Partners etc. The partners have to state the nature of their partnership for example each partners contribution to the business, profit sharing tactics and voting entitlement of the partners. 2)Name of the Company: In order to create a partnership a name must be established and the partnership has to undertake their business under this name. If they decide to change the name or use a name that already exists, it will result in the loss of goodwill, an injunction for infringement against the partnership and the respective partners. They have to make sure the name is not copyrighted or trademarked by another existing company. Searches for trademark can be done online too. 3)Term of Partnership: A term has to be signed for partnership, starting from the commencing date or the date when the partnership was signed. A term can also be interpreted as an advantage because if the company is not doing well according to the partners agreement, when the term ends each partner will take ... • 35. Cant Hardly Wait Compared To The Canterbury Tales Canterbury Tales Compare/Contrast Essay Satire as described by the Webster dictionary is a way of using humor to show the weaknesses or bad qualities of a person, government, society, etc. One of the first examples of satirical English writing was Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales. The CanterburyTales revolve around an eclectic group of pilgrims on a religious journey to St. Thomas Beckett s shrine . The true intent of this classic tale was to expose all of 14th century England to the corruptness of the cast system in London. Chaucer executed his purpose by including characters of various statures into his story and discreetly criticizing them by using humor. In doing so he also criticized the morals of aristocracy at that time. Centuries later Chaucer s interpretation of society continues to be used in literature and other forms of art today. Can t Hardly Wait is an example of a film that embodies Chaucer s ideas. This cheesy 1990s classic romance is set at a high school graduation party. The main plot of a boy trying to get his dream girl is simply an unimportant factor compared to screenwriter Deborah Kaplan s true purpose: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The attire of the Knight proved that he not only worked hard but also lived modestly. Although he was wealthy, his cloaks did not readily support that fact, for He wore a fustian tunic stained and dark (Canterbury 77). Spring, 2013 INTRODUCTION The main aim of this paper is to examine whether there are significant differences in academic performance of students of ............. Students representing different social classes can achieve different results in their career paths. These conceptualizations include social class as more than just an economic measure. For example, Weber saw property, skills, and education all contributing to the concept of social class, which is sometimes used interchangeably with socioeconomic status.3 He argued that social class has three dimensions of stratification: class, status and party and that these three dimensions are distinct entities and cannot be resolved under the single concept of class. Thus, in brief from the concept of social class we understand a group of people within a society who posess the same socioeconomic status. HYPOTHESIS Preposition: Students who represent upper social class are more successful than others (positive relationship) H(null): There is NO relationship between the level of social class and the level of academic success. CONCEPTUALIZATION A social class is a group of people that is characteristic of owning the same social, economic, political position on the basis of which is placed in different hierarchical occupations. Besides this leads to social differentiations. So the concepts that need to be explained within the scope of this research are social class, social background and success. • 37. Edgar Allan Poe Quotes About Death Mors ultima linea rerum est ( Latin Quotes about Death ): this quote from Horace perfectly sums up the theme of the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe suffered much loss throughout his life first with the loss of his mother, then his adopted mother, his first love, and finally his wife thus explaining why Poe commonly uses deathas a theme in his works. Poe also commonly writes about women and youth, with the presence of death bringing a depressing and ominous undertone. Death exists in the happiest and saddest of subjects. The narrator of The Raven holds on to his grief and sees death as a barrier currently separating [him] from the lost Lenore (Magistrale 46). The reader then begins to also see death as barrier and can feel the same sadness that the narrator himself is feeling. The bird brings about mixed feelings within the narrator. At first, the bird amuses the narrator , but quickly frustrates him when the bird s only responds nevermore : the narrator wonders if he will reencounter [Lenore] in the afterlife, and finally if the narrator himself will ever find peace in her absence. To each of these questions the bird s consistent reply infuriates him at the same time as it deepens his sense of loss (Magistrale 39 40). This questioning of life after death can make a reader feel quite crestfallen as it can make him or her wonder whether or not he or she will see a loved one again. The raven has always been a bad omen...At the conclusion of this poem, we are to believe that the raven has become a permanent resident of the poet s chamber and soul (Magistrale 40 1): the raven never leaves the poet similar to how death lurks always creating a dark feeling within the ... The Underground Dancer is a figure of the modern world that cannot be dismissed. It is hard to pinpoint what he is, and what he looks like, all I can provide is shots in the dark, a desperate attempt to shed light to this misunderstood personae. Like an ill man he may swear inside him, and like Dostoevsky s Underground Man he will let out a high pitched cry that speaks: Enough! This world is not enough! He is still motionless for although he wants to dance, his mind is not at ease what is the use of dancing anyway, when all the troubles of the world burden his shoulders (Kaufmann 71, 72)? He remains inert, perhaps slightly trembling, a tingling anticipation of an unknown surge tickling his soul. His inaction drives him insane because if he refuses to dance without a reason, he will remain inert but if, on the other hand, dances without a reason, his lack of determination will manifest itself as self consciousness and fall pray to the eyes of his audience. But who ever heard of rationality as prerequisite for action? The whole of History is littered with examples of irrational choices, where man acts without consideration for reason or advantage. The Underground Dancer realizes this, and does not wish for himself a good, virtuous or advantageous choice but simply to satisfy his own caprice, in a sense, feed his own desire for the single most advantageous advantage : independent choice (72). • 42. My Mistress Eyes Figurative Language Essay Wiry hair, bad breath, pale face these don t seem like the words you would use towards someone you love. Shakespeare uses these terms to describe his romantic partner in the poem My Mistress Eyes. At first glance, the reader could mistake this for a love poem. In reality, this poem illustrates how someone could find fault in the one they think they love. As a result of Shakespeare s romantic preferences and that he wrote many poems about love, My Mistress Eyes seems to be about love between a man and a woman, but the speaker in the poem critiques his mistress through figurative language, rhythm and rhyme, and a romantic mood. In this specific poem Shakespeare uses figurative language to make it seem like a love poem but makes you read it twice to really understand what he is actually saying about his significant other. • 43. The Universal Intracellular Messenger, Calcium ( Ca2 + ) The universal intracellular messenger, Calcium (Ca2+ ) regulates a wide range of cellular processes such as gene transcription, muscle contraction and cell proliferation. Ca2+ diffuses into organelles such as mitochondria and the nucleus as it is elevated in the cytosol (Martin D Bootman, 2006). Ca2+ is suited to this role as an intracellular messenger as it is a divalent cation and therefore it can form more stable complexes with other compounds compared to monovalent ions like magnesium and chloride. Moreover, Ca2+ has a larger radius and a stable electron configuration which provides flexibility that allows the formation of bonds with coordination sites that have irregular geometry (Bading, 2013). Although Ca2+ is important for cells the cytosolic concentration is maintained at a nanomolar concentration. Therefore, cells have obtained different ways to cope with this situation by reducing their cytosolic levels (Clapham, 2007). Ca2+ concentration inside cells is controlled by counteracting processes that act as on and off mechanisms based on whether they serve to increase or decrease cytosolic Ca2+ levels (Martin D Bootman, 2006). Ca2+ cannot be chemically altered within cells. Therefore to control Ca2+, cells must chelate, compartmentalize or extrude it in order to maintain nanomolar concentrations of the ion (Clapham, 2007). Ca2+ on mechanisms consist of channels located at the plasma membrane (PM) that controls the amount of Ca2+ entering the intracellular Ca2+ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When she rose to fame, Joan was often called the Maid of Lorraine, showing that she was the peasant girl from Lorraine. Born in 1412, Jeanne d Arc, more commonly known as Joan of Arc, was raised in the small village of DomrГ©my, located in Lorraine, France. Her parents, Jacques d Arc and Isabelle RomГ©e, were mere peasants that also helped raise her 4 siblings, Jean d Arc, Pierre d Arc, Catherine d Arc, and Jacquemin d Arc. As a child, Joan often had to deal with wars, financial struggles, a corrupt government, and the slaying of innocent people, often for no reason. This was because of the simultaneous deaths of the kings of France, King Henry V, and England, King Charles VI. With them dead, the only heirs to the throne were Charles, who may not have been Charles VI s biological son, and Henry, who was Catherine (Charles VI s daughter) and Henry V s son. There was a dispute between the two countries as to who would rule the other, as Henry was only an infant and Charles might not have really been an heir. As a result, the Hundred Years War was fought between the two countries. As Henry grew older, the war raged on.
