This document is a comic book project about Antoni Gaudi and the architectural style of Modernisme. It consists of 10 pages of comic panels depicting events in Gaudi's life that inspired his organic architectural designs, from his childhood fascination with nature to his time in architecture school to designing the Sagrada Familia. The artist drew influence from descriptions of how nature walks and daydreams fueled Gaudi's work. The comic aims to express Modernisme's organic forms in a detailed yet accessible all-ages format.

3. IDE A DEVELO PMEN T
This is a general re-telling of Gaudi’s life as it progresses from his time as a child living under his father’s
roof, followed by haphazardly making it through university, to becoming a respected architect and
citizen of the spanish society of the time. It focuses on how his love of geometry and organic form mix
perfectly. His main mode of inspiration is losing himself among the stunning natural forms, orders,
colors and textures
Young ‘Antoni’ is a fan of the
theatre and arts. He is open to
experience and often loses
himself in the arts and nature
but clashes with his father
when it comes to how he
spends his time, compelling
his father to keep him in his
workshop.
In architecture school ‘Ant’
does not excel in many
theoretical subjects besides
geometry and visual art. He
continues to be stimulated
by natural environment and
music. He is more self
assured in his style. His
mentors, however, are not
sure if they just gave a title
to a genius or a fool
Now mostly respected, ‘Mr
Gaudi / Sir ‘ is designing
the Sagrada Familia. He
still wanders aimlessly. But
he is also able to lose
himself in urban settings.
He is taken up in winding
pathways and staircases as
he admirers his own
structure from afar - then
crashes with a tram. He
dies.
The following are a series of drawing to show the original character ideas as Gaudi changes over the
years. These have changed slightly in our final pencils and inks

4. Just as the tall trees in the spanish forests influenced the interiors of the Sagrada Familia, we wanted to
create more hypothetical situations where Gaudi would be taken into daydreams after gazing into intricacies
of nature. The idea is that the daydreams would become the main template for his beautiful architecture.

S TATEMENT
THE IDEA OF THE SUBJECT MATTER CAME ABOUT WHEN I HAD GONE
THROUGH MANY EXAMPLES OF AMAZING ARCHITECTURAL COMICS
THAT WERE DETAILED, WELL-PROPORTIONED BUT MOSTLY CLINICAL!
I WAS CURIOUS TO SEE IF THERE WAS A WAY TO EXPRESS THE MORE
ORGANIC VARIETY OF ARCHITECTURAL FORMS. MODERNISME WAS
THE PERFECT STYLE TO FOCUS ON, AS OPPOSED TO STYLES LIKE
BAROQUE, ROCOCO OR EVEN ART NOVEAU. THIS WAS BECAUSE
ALMOST ALL THE ELEMENTS MODERNISME IS ATTRIBUTED TO ANTONI
GAUDI, A MAJOR ICON.
TELLING THE STORY THROUGH THE PRISM OF GAUDI’S LIFE SEEMED
IDEAL SINCE THERE WAS A TON OF INFORMATION ON WHERE HE GOT
HIS REFERENCES FROM ; HIS NATURE WALKS AND DAYDREAMS. THERE
IS ALSO CONSIDERABLE DESCRIPTION OF HOW HE CHANGED
THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE WHICH I THOUGHT COULD ENRICH THE COMIC
FURTHER. THIS SEMI-FICTITIOUS ALL-AGES COMIC IS LIGHT-HEARTED
AND QUICK, DESPITE ITS OCCASIONALLY HEAVY SUBJECT MATTERS.
