Exhaust Gas Recirculation is an effective method for NOx control. The exhaust gases mainly consist of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, etc. and the mixture has higher specific heat compared to atmospheric air. Re-circulated exhaust gas displaces fresh air entering the combustion chamber with carbon dioxide and water vapor present in engine exhaust. As a consequence of this air displacement, lower amount of oxygen in the intake mixture is available for combustion. Reduced oxygen available for combustion lowers the effective air–fuel ratio. This effective reduction in air–fuel ratio affects exhaust emissions

Biogas as a vehicle fuel
This work concerns a systematic study of IC engine operation with 100% biogas as fuel (as opposed to the dual-fuel mode) with particular emphasis on operational issues and the quest for high efficiency strategies.
As a first step, In Biogas CO2 does not help in combustion process but reduce the calorific value of biogas. H2S is in minor quantity but it has corrosive action on combustion chamber and also reduces calorific value of biogas. Also traces of moisture are to be removing for better thermal efficiency. So harmful gradients are removed and use only methane as a fuel.
Subsequently, the model of KINETIC GF is used to predict effect of different parameters such as compression ratio, spark timing and combustion durations on engine performance and efficiency.
The results show very high overall efficiencies with the manifold injection strategy. The main reasons are the higher volumetric efficiency and overall lean operation of the engine across the entire load range. Predictions show excellent agreement with measurements, enabling the model to be used as a tool for further study. Simulations suggest that a higher compression ratio (up to 13) and appropriate spark advance can lead to higher engine power output and efficiency.
Thermochemical conversion of biomass

This document summarizes a study on soot formation in co-flow diffusion flames fueled by biodiesel. Biodiesel fuels tested include pure methyl ester fuels (B100CME and B100SME) as well as blends with diesel fuel. Soot volume fraction profiles were measured using laser extinction for flames with varying oxygen concentration in air. Peak soot volume fractions were highest for flames with 35-50% oxygen and decreased with further oxygen addition. Biodiesel blends showed intermediate sooting compared to pure biodiesel and diesel fuels. Higher flame temperatures led to higher soot oxidation rates and lower soot volume fractions.

- 4. COMBUSTION Synonimous of oxidation and it consists in the union of the Oxygen with a fuel matter. The degrees of the combustión may change widely , knowing the slow combustión and fast combustión or detonation. In agreement with the Chemistry fundamentals , the union of the carbón and oxygen is expressed as: 𝐶 + 𝑂2=C𝑂2
- 5. Complete combustion: All the fuel is totally oxidized and reléase all the energy (Flame in color BLUE). Incomplete combustion: The fuel is not fylly oxidized and it may happen because: *Not enough oxygen *Imperfect mix between oxygen and fuel. *Low temp to keep the combustion. (Flame in color YELLOW or ORANGE) 𝐶 + 𝑂2=C𝑂2 𝐶 + 1 2 𝑂2=CO
- 6. SIGNS OF A BAD COMBUSTION YELLOW or ORANGE flame. Solids on the smoke going out of the chimney. Excesive noise. Bad working of the steam boiler.
- 7. STOICHIOMETRY Is the calculation of relative quantities of reactants and products in chemical reactions. A stoichiometric amount or stoichiometric ratio of a reagent is the optimum amount or ratio where, assuming that the reaction proceeds to completion: *All of the reagent is consumed *There is no deficiency of the reagent *There is no excess of the reagent. In other words, is a theoretical point where optimal levels of fuel and oxygen mix.
- 8. Why it is so important? Optimizing the combustion control on industrial boilers, steam generators and others, helps in a significant way to reduce energy consumption in a manufacturing environment. We get to this point through the accurate and repeatable measurement of gases.
