College Essay Music
Crafting an essay on the topic of "College Essay Music" can be both challenging and rewarding.
The intricacies lie not only in presenting a coherent and compelling narrative but also in
effectively conveying the profound impact that music has had on one's college journey.
The difficulty arises from the subjective nature of music; it's a deeply personal and emotive
experience, and translating those feelings into words requires a delicate balance. The challenge is
to express the essence of one's musical journey, encapsulating the transformative power of
melodies and rhythms, and their influence on personal growth.
Moreover, there's the task of weaving together a narrative that not only reflects one's passion for
music but also aligns seamlessly with the context of a college essay. It necessitates the
exploration of how musical experiences have shaped perspectives, fostered creativity, and
perhaps even influenced academic pursuits.
Choosing the right tone and striking a balance between introspection and showcasing one's
personality further complicates the writing process. It's about more than just recounting musical
encounters; it's about revealing a depth of character, resilience, and adaptability that resonates
with the values of the college in question.
On the other hand, the essay offers a unique opportunity for self-expression and differentiation.
Through this medium, an individual can stand out amidst a sea of applicants by providing
insights into their unique identity and the role music has played in shaping their aspirations.
In conclusion, while the task of writing a college essay on the topic of music poses its
challenges, it is also an avenue to showcase one's individuality and passion. The difficulty lies in
striking the right chords of introspection, personal growth, and alignment with the values of the
college. Successfully navigating this challenge can result in a powerful and memorable essay that
sets an applicant apart.

Canada Goose Case Analysis Essay
Current situation
Canada Goose has experienced steady organic growth as a niche brand, selling
their product through independently owned stores. By June 2008 it was selling
product in 28 different countries across North America and Europe plus two
authorized online retailers. Now it has a significant opportunity to further cement
itself as a market leader by placing its product with a national chain. Initially,
Canada Goose considered offers from two national chain retailers. One offer came
from a Canadian chain called Asmuns Place. Another offer came from Levene s
Menswear. Table 1 provides a high level overview and compares these two offers.
Table 1. Brief offer comparisons.

Firstly, the Canada Goose brand faces a threat from the increased number of fake
products by counterfeiters. Secondly, there is a rising concern from independent
stores that national chain stores would discount Canada Goose products causing their
sales to drop. And thirdly, Lisa Freedman from Asmuns Place made a last minute
offer for exclusive distribution of Canada Goose female and menswear through their
store chain. This offer restricts Canada Goose s flexibility in terms of choosing a
distribution partner, but simplifies the distribution process.
Recommendations
Pursue both initial opportunities with the women s closing product line for Asmuns
Place and with the men s product line for Levene s Menswear. This will result in an
increase in the market share in Canada by 10%. It will provide the ability to bring
newer products to market, and not restrict the distribution of products to a single
national chain store. Canada Goose should define the conditions under which Asmuns
Place or any other retail chain will feature its products in store advertisements. It also
needs to assure its original distribution partners that they will be able to maintain their
existing brand prestige and pricing throughout all their stores in Canada.
Canada Goose should expand their distribution of its product to Eastern Europe
starting with Russia since it is a country with severe winter conditions. This will
assure Canada Goose growth without the risk of saturating the

One King, one Queen, otherwise known as Ferdinand and Isabella. Ferdinand and
Isabella were cousins. Later on in 1469 they became husband and wife. Isabella
became the quartermaster and financier (isabellaqueenofspain.wordpress.com),
while Ferdinand was the leader of the army. Together they expanded and ruled the
Spanish Empire. (spainthenandnow.com). Isabella was born on April 27, 1451. She
was born in a city of Madrigal and raised Catholic. Her mother s name was also
Isabella. Her mother was the Princess of Portugal. King John II, of Castile, was her
father. Isabella never really knew her father as he died when she was only four
years old. Isabella was well educated and from a very young age was taught she
could achieve great things. When King John II died, he left the Kingdom of
Castile to Isabella s step brother Henry. (Bucklin). Later when Isabella s brother
died, she had to fight to become ruler of Castile against her Niece Juana who tried
to take over the throne. Ferdinand would help her in the war to succeed her step
brother and take over as ruler (Azcona).
Isabella s cousin, also known as her husband, Ferdinand, was born in 1451. His
father was King John II of Aragon and his mom was Juana EnrГquez of Castile. They
were both of Castilian origin. Unlike Isabella, he had a father figure and would
succeed his father as King of Aragon. From his father he learned integrity, courage
and reserve. Ferdinand was raised by his parents to become a king and a devout
Catholic. (ferdinandandisabella.weebly.com) He became known as Ferdinand the
Catholic (Azcona). In 1469 Ferdinand and Isabella were married. The marriage was
really an arrangement for purposes of taking control of Spain. Their union would
bring about accomplishments that would go down in history. The first main
accomplishment was that they unified Spain. Their marriage unified the regions of
Castile and Aragon. Before Ferdinand and Isabella took over, Spain was separated
and confused. (ferdinandandisabella.weebly.com) The couple would share equal
ruling power. As time went on, their combined forces would make Spain into a strong
world power. (history.com).
No Child Left Behind Essay
No Child Left Behind
As students in a Structure Philosophy class, one of the main components has been to
introduce and familiarize us with the No Child Left Behind Act. President Bush
passed this legislation on January 8, 2002. The NCLB Act was designed to ensure
each and every student the right to a fair education, to give parents more options in
their child s education, and to guarantee all teachers are highly qualified. By highly
qualified, the act means teachers must have at least a bachelor s degree, have full state
certification or licensure, and have demonstrated competence in their subject areas
(US Dept. of Education).

year, is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of which many people probably do not even know. One of these benefits
includes the choices that are given to parents. In schools who fail to comply with
state standards for two consecutive years, parents will then have the choice to
remove their children from these schools and send them to a higher performing
school in their same district (Choices for Parents). Students who decide to do so are
provided with transportation to and from school using funds from the district
(Choices for Parents). By providing transportation for kids to receive a higher quality
education, we are helping to ensure each child the best education possible.
Making the Grade discussed the financial problems that are brought upon through
the NCLB act. It is true this act does require a lot of money to be spent which is
not provided to schools by the state, however, many people tend to overlook all of
the benefits. One example given in this article is the Jordan School District in Salt
Lake, Utah. After calculating a bare bones sketch of the new equipment, programs,
personnel, etc. which would be needed under the new act, the district figured it
alone would need approximately $59 million to meet the standards of the act (Salt
Lake Tribune). It seems somewhat ridiculous and hard to believe this much money
would be needed to provide for one county alone. Although this is a large chunk of
money, I believe people need to look at
Examples Of Utopian Society
An utopian society can be defined as a most ideal place where everyone desire.
Utopia is an imaginary place for some characteristics that actually cannot be
achieved for. But still many people had tried to create a utopia for their earnest will
to live in a best society. Now day people s situation, which can be said as abject and
hopeless, had made them to dream of a wonderland that cannot exist. Brook Farm,
Kibbutz, and WaldenTwo are some examples for the created utopian society. They all
have some incompleteness, because there would be many irony factors to create a
real utopia, but they can be said as some relatively complete utopian societies. The
best over these three examples will probably be the Walden Two society, because it

First, Walden Two had a great arrangement in work system. They had a work credit
system, which had made all members to work fairly and receive same treatment.
There were no complain over people. After they done their assigned work and
fulfilled the credit, they could have their free time, which allow them to develop
their genius in many parts. Also there were planned system for a whole lifetime for
the members, which had eventually planned an organized society. However, the
other two societies did not had this organized system. Brook Farm s founder had
first founded Brook Farm based on Transcendentalism, but then he suddenly
changed to Fourierism. This sudden change had confused the members and the
change was not able to cover the society s biggest problem of lack of income. The
lack of income over the society can truly prove that the system there was not
complete and it was not well planned. Also in Kibbutz, the leadership of government
had suppressed the innovation. This community did not have the ability to elevate
the standard of living. They were not able to adapt to the change and improve the
educational system. The Kibbutz is a so called has been society. The failure of other
two societies and the organized system of Walden Two has made it the best

There are different ways through which a performance of a system can be assessed
(order fill rate, production condition, accurate documentation among the most
important), and the measure used by ALP seems to have some deficiencies in
assessing the real impact of the operations undergone by the company and the final
customer satisfaction. In fact can be said that such a measure doesn t take in to
consideration returned items, and considered the logistic process concluded in the
moment in which the freight leaves the stocking point, in this way lacking an
overall view of the process that can be seen as an old view of the logistic system. If
customer service is defined as the entire process of filling customer s order [...]
handling the possible return of the goods the current measurement system adopted
by ALP is leaving out all the post transaction elements which are vital to establish a
good relationship with the customer and have to be planned for in advance. This is
also one of the reasons why the service level is so strongly affected by stock
availability. Focusing on the end user side could give a more realistic picture of the
performance of the company at a logistic level.
The variability of logistics performance is quite relevant. ALP has not been able to
guarantee a reliable service to its customers in the last years. There seems to be a
lack of organization when providing the service to the customers, in the sense of
establishing priorities and
Essay on Death and Dying in the Somali Culture
Culturally competent cares in the medical field can make a huge difference in the
satisfaction and the healing of patients who are guests in the facilities that we will be
at. In central Minnesota we have the privilege of having many different cultures in a
small area. With many people immigrating here from their homeland it is important,
as health care professionals, to have an understanding of the many different beliefs
and traditions that we may come across in our personal and professional lives.
The Somali population has seen a significant rise in the number of individuals that
are now living in central Minnesota. Most of the Somali population is of the Islamic

So a life close to Allah while on earth will bring an afterlife close to Allah as well.
That is mostly why death is not resisted but accepted as a part of life in the Islamic
faith. This attitude toward death is a bit different than the thinking of a majority
of the individuals in the area. Many fear death and do not want to accept that life
will eventually end, even with the promise of meeting their savior once they pass.
Depending on the field that the nurse works in, interacting with a dying individual
may or may not happen. If a person is taking care of a dying individual it is
important to know some basic etiquette so that the person or their family will not
be offended by any actions of the staff. It is customary to address the family of the
dying person instead of directly telling the person that their time is almost done,
though it is ok to tell the patient the seriousness of their illness. (Children s) the
family then can inform the person in their own way. It would be ideal for the person
to be able to pass in their own home but that is not always possible.
When a person of the Islamic faith is in a facility when death is imminent, there are
some considerations that can be taken to help the make it an easier time on
everyone involved. Making room for the family and friends of the dying person for
prayer would be greatly appreciated, as it is greatly

never expose private and confidential information, besides preventing from
contradicting or agreeing any hearsays (Anonymous, 1995). However, Selinger
(2008) argues this point of view by postulating that we need to find out our

History
Kentucky Fried Chicken, popularly known as KFC, was founded by Harland
Sanders. Starting from his roadside restaurant selling fried chicken in roadside
restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky, to expanding his restaurant and naming it Sanders
Court and Cafe in 1937,the first franchise of this chain opened in Utah in 1952
where he franchised his recipe to Pete Harman who was well know restaurant
operator. The name KFC was quoted by a sign painter, Don Anderson, hired by
Harman, creating a distinct image of restaurant showing Southern hospitality in Utah.
Before reaching to present state of this company, KFC has been traded many
times. In 1964, Sanders sold the company to John Y. Brown Jr. and Jack C.
Massey with the agreement including life time salary for him along with his
appointment as company s quality controller and trademark. Later in July 1971,
KFC was sold again to a company named Heublein, a packaged food and drink
corporation. Heublein was bought by R.J. Reynolds, the tobacco giants in 1982 and
in July 1986, Reynolds sold KFC to Pepsi Co. The name Kentucky Fried Chicken
was officially adopted in 1991. Further, Pepsi Co. created its independent restaurants
division in 1997 and named it Tricon Global Restaurants which was renamed to Yum!
Brands in May 2002.

As a leading pioneer in outdoor retailing and a company at the forefront of the
movement for environmental sustainability, we write this letter in response to your
request to evaluate your current Workbook Process and appraise the advantages as
well as the drawbacks to the system. We are not in favour of the current Workbook
Process for reasons that we will list for you. We feel that a company with such a
reputation as Patagonia, Inc., needs to adopt a less sophisticated but progressive
system.

* Large proportion of employees refused to engage in the Process because they
found it tedious. * The plan was not accepted by all levels of management. * The
Workbook Process focuses mainly on planning in advance for the longer term
rather than on a day by day basis. * The Workbook Process had difficulty in
judging environment, quality and distribution objectives, which are crucial success
factors for Patagonia, Inc. * The Workbook Process is very complex and time
consuming. The level of planning and the enormous amount of meetings needed to
discuss company plans leaves very little time for constructive work to be done. *
The Process could be limiting in the sense that it does not promote innovations; if
anything it encourages people to just stick to a set plan and nothing else. * The
profit sharing plan that was introduced was not based on merit; it was just allocated
in equal percentages of the base salary.
On the contrary, the workbook process also has some benefits. Although, the
concerns outweigh the benefits, it is for your benefit and to give you a better
perspective of the Process.
BENEFITS OF THE WORKBOOK PROCESS * The Workbook Process has been
significantly embraced amongst the employees at Patagonia, Inc. * A significant
amount of the employees feel that the Process is worthwhile and that it has given
everyone an opportunity to bond; and also optimized better solutions for the
company. *
An Essay On Louisiana
Louisiana is an interesting place to visit and live in. Louisiana has always had a
passion for food and the different types of culture that comes along with it. There are
many different subjects in Louisiana to research, such as plantations, festivals,
swamps, cities, and different heritages. Food brings everyone and everything
together. By researching food, all of the many different facts about Louisianacan tie
together. There is always a cultural background when it comes to food anywhere.
The festivals in Louisiana always either include food or base themselves on food.

Gumbo is a dish that is made differently depending on the cultural background of
the person making it. The name gumbo, comes from the Bantu word nkombo,
which stands for okra. Gumbo is originally from Africa and was defined as a soup
dish (Owens 1). Ingredients such as, chopped onions, shrimp, andouille sausage,
chicken, salt, garlic, celery, parsley, bell peppers, okra, and roux are what make up
a gumbo. Roux is a thickener for gumbo and there are many different ways to make
it. This thickener is made with flour and butter, oil or fat. Gumbo creates cultural
diffusion near the south. The way that people prepare gumbo or how popular it is
depends on how far they are from South Louisiana. Gumbo has many cultural
influences such as: Western European, African, Caribbean, and Native America
(Gumbo Festivals 2). Gumbo can be made many different ways because of these
cultures. The traditional gumbo recipe includes chicken and sausage but there are
also many different seafood recipes that include shrimp, oysters, or crabs. A family
that hunts usually includes other meats such as duck or squirrel. People usually
serve gumbo with a side of potato salad which ties back to a German influence.
Some Jews actually take gumbo and turn it into their own with their culture. They
make what is known as, Matzo Ball Gumbo. Matzo Ball Gumbo is a chicken gumbo

Honeycomb tire
Introduction
Getting a flat tire is never convenient. When we find our car s tire is broke in the
street, it is hard for us to do something for it. We may call some towing companies
to towing our car to some place safe. But it need cost a lot of money. Why the tirecan
flat, because inside of the tire is air. We using a lot of air inside of the tire, so we can
hold our car. The hub will not touch the ground. So if we want to have a tire that
will never flat, we need find a way to replace the air.
Modern tire is Honeycomb tire is kind of tire that mimic the honeycomb shape. an

Millions of unsafe tires could be on the road right now. When the owner felt a
vibration and pulled over to check the tire, he saw nothing. Because the defective
portion was inside the tire wall and not visible to the naked eye.
Even the tire is safe, but it may also be broken by the ground. In military, when the
truck try to sent the stuff to the front, if the tire broke, they may lost the battle. So
the enemy will try to broken the tire of the Resource truck. And it is very easy to
do it, just broke the tire. Using a small nail that is hard enough to broken the tire.
So the battle may lose because of a small nail. So a tire that is strong enough to
hold the truck and hard to be broken is necessary. Even the tire is broken, the tire
need to be strong enough for the truck to go to a safe place.
Not just the resource truck. In the battlefield, we need truck or car to sent our solider
into battleground. And we need sent the wounded into hospital. If the tire is broken,

Niacin And Vitamin B12 Metabolic Importance
Niacin and Vitamin B12 Metabolic importance
Vitamins are chemically unrelated organic compounds which can be used in many
metabolic process. The vitamin B complex are water soluble vitamins that are
needed to form the coenzymes or enzymes in metabolic pathways. Niacin is used to
produce NAD+ which is used in cellular respiration and NADP+ used in the pentose
phosphate pathway and would lead to someone developing pellagra. Additionally,
vitamin B12 is used to form cofactors required in the conversion of homocysteine to
methionine an amino acid needed in the protein synthesis. Also in the isomerization

The product of the reactions is fructose 1,6 bisphosphate. These steps in the
glycolytic pathway are needed for the glucose to stay in the cell. Additionally, the
fructose 1,6 bisphosphate is easy to convert to phosphorylated three carbon units. The
second part of the glycolysis involves the conversion of the fructose 1,6 bisphosphate
into two different three carbon units which interconvert easily. In the third part, the
three carbon units are converted to pyruvate and there is a net production of two

Title Evaluation The title of the journal article to be critically evaluated is Influence
of health information levels on postpartum depression. This title is not sufficiently
specific because the variables are not easily understood. What is meant by health
information levels? The reader must examine the article further to understand if this
health information is provided, or does the article refer to the level of health related
knowledge each participant already possessed from another source, such as their
career or education. Furthermore, the article doesn t state a population. It would be

The reason for the lengthiness was that the article provided quite a bit of information
regarding the methodology and results, which may have been presented later in the
paper. For example, the title of measure was described. Also, the writing style of the
author is difficult to follow at times. Overall, the abstract provided more information
than necessary and may, therefore, overwhelm readers. Specifically, those readers
who are reviewing multiple research studies in order to decide which are relevant for
their particular interest or population.
Introduction and Literature Review Evaluation The introduction and literature review
successfully identifies the importance and prevalence of PPD. However, it moved
from citation to citation. For example, the following excerpt from the article, written
by Youash, Sabrina, et al. (2013), states It has been well established that PPD can
affect maternal infant interactions (Beck 2001), and women with PPD display less
affectionate behavior, are less responsive to their infants, and are more withdrawn
compared to those without such condition (Pop et al. 1993) (p. 489). It would
increase readability to combine citations. Thus the sentence would read, It has been
well established that PPD can affect maternal infant interactions, and women with
PPD display less affectionate behavior, are less responsive to their infants, and are
more withdrawn compared to those without such condition (Beck 2001,

debated is the headscarf. According to Werbner (2007), the headscarf which is a
religious symbol is often seen as the refusal to integrate by many European countries
(2007:165). Yet many Muslim women would contest the opinion of the veil being a
device of social control and hindrance of social cohesion. Telegraph journalist Khan

Her article suggests that wearing the Hijab does not affect social cohesion, ignorance
from wider society does. Media outlets often portray religious clothing as negative

LG electronics are qualified people. However, since LG is one of the greatest
company of the world, I expected to see CV s which are full of past experiences at
different companies or at different sectors. Although it gives some sense of family
company, we see that the BoD are not traditionally organized at all. On the other
hand, BoD seems very nationalist, I would have expected to see some foreign

effects of board members on the operations of companies. However, since the
grandson of the founder of the company is on the board, it is not surprising that BoD

Essay on Annotations From The Narrative
Annotations from Frederick Douglass By far the large part of the slaves know as
little of their age as horses know of theirs, and it is the wish of most masters within
my knowledge to keep their slaves thus ignorant. [Ch. 1, p. 39.] Ignorant is the key
word in this passage. Slaves seemed to be valued because of their ignorance. As long
as they followed their master s wishesand didn t raise any questions, they were being
manageable slaves. Not letting the slaves have their own identities and background
made it easier for their mastersto control them. It is also interesting how Douglass
compares a slave to a horse. It may be upsetting to the reader to see a human treated
the same way as a horse. This dehumanizes the slaves in a... Show more content on

The masters may challenge slaves to a drinking contest and deceive them with
what they think is freedom. After seeing these tricks played on other slaves,
Frederick realizes not to say a word about his master or the treatment he is
receiving. This teaches him a lesson in the ways of a slaveholder. He must keep
quiet at all times if he doesn t want to be beaten or killed. Silence is his means of
survival. (2nd) To use his own words, further, he said, If you give a nigger an inch,
he will take an ell. A nigger should know nothing but to obey his master to do as he
is told to do. Learning would spoil the best nigger in the world . (1st) Now, said he,
if you teach that nigger (speaking of myself) how to read there would be no
keeping him . [Ch. 6, p. 57.] I selected this particular passage because it
demonstrates just how much education was feared by the masters. This dialogue is
between Mr. and Mrs. Auld. Mrs. Auld was trying to teach Frederick to spell. She
wasn t yet accustomed to the life of slaveholding. Yet with time she grew cruel just
like the others. It seemed as though slavery was bad for both the slave and the
slaveholder. It could make even the kindest person into a cruel master. Once her
husband found out he was furious. He felt that if you taught a slave how to spell
and read, he would start learning about all kinds of things. He would become
dissatisfied with his life as a slave and want something more. Mr. Auld was exactly

During the Twenties prohibition was passed, this caused the crime rate to skyrocket.

The roaring twenties saw many improvements and additions at Ford. By 1919 the
Model T held 40% of the domestic market ( Ford Crises of 1920 1921, 2007).
Throughout the 30s and 40s, Ford continued to set the standard for the automotive
industry. The company s first new V 8 engine was debuted in 1932. (Ford
Richmond Assembly Plant Operation during the 1930s) In 1940, while Europe
and Asia had gone to war and the United States still struggled with economic
depression, the Richmond Branch produced about 100 cars each day. Soon this
became a Mercury assembly plant, so five models of Mercury s including sedans,
coupes, and convertibles comprised about one quarter of Richmond s output. Sales
of Ford s 1941 models were among the best ever due largely to the demand created
by WWII. (Ford Richmond Assembly Plant Ford s Conversion to War Production)
The 50s and 60s saw Ford transition from a family owned company to one that

Argument Against The Legalization Of Homosexual

Rhetorical Precis Austin Reynolds, in his term paper, k, proves with strong
assertations that there is evidence to support the legalization of homosexual
marriage, though many would argue that it will harm the sanctity of marriage and
harm the right to freedom of religion. Reynolds supports his ideas by expounding
upon the inequality that LGBT people are given and how gay marriage will bring
harm to no man, women, or child. The author s purpose is to inform the reader on
all aspects of gay marriage so they understand the controversial reasoning behind
the idea as well as the arguments against the proposal. Reynolds writes in a formal
tone for the American Studies English teachers at Granite Hills High School.

Spontaneous Human Combustion Essay
Spontaneous Human Combustion The world is full of the unexplained and
mysterious, but is spontaneous human combustion truly spontaneous caused by the
paranormal, or just simply human combustion? Most people think of spontaneous
human combustion, or SHC, as ...the reduction of an otherwise normal, healthy
human body to a pile of fine black ash, the consistency of which is finer than that of a
cremated corpse (Spontaneous). This is simply not true. First of all, it is not
complete consumption because in most cases extremities and internal organs remain
because the high temperature outside the body does not penetrate internally.
Secondly, the fact that the ash is so fine is often used by SHC proponents as to why

To find a logical explanation scientists looked for a common thread in the cases.
This common thread seemed to be alcohol. During this Victorian era, an evil of the
Christian society was drink. SHC ...was viewed as a sort of a moral punishment
for drunkenness (Cohen 195). Since the cause of SHC was believed to be
drinking, many had oral remedies for SHC. In Germany the common people had
great faith in liquid manure as a preventive for spontaneous combustion...
(Bondeson 7). If you lived in Scandinavia at that time you may have had heard of
an even more unlikely preventive. Swedish and Norwegian folklore prescribed
human urine, preferably freshly voided by a woman, to be thrown into the mouth
of a flowing drunkard... (Bondeson 7). During this Victorian era SHC became
popular in literature. Mark Twain was one writer who popularized SHC in his
book, Life on the Mississippi, during early America. Jimmy Finn was not burned in
a calaboose, but died a natural death in a vat of a combination of delirium tremens
and spontaneous combustion. (quoted in Cohen 192). Charles Dickens also wrote
about SHC in his book, Bleak House, and he attributed it to alcohol. Dickens
described the death of the drunken man, Krook, in the following manner: Here is a
small burnt patch of flooring; here is the tender from a little bundle of burnt paper,
but not so light as usual, seeming to be steeped in
How Did Progressive Reforms Shape The Way We Live

Progressive Reforms in chapter 16 by Breanna Hubbard Reforms definitely helped

we owe many reforms a thank you. The way live today would not be nearly as

types of reforms and each of them has purpose. The people who created these reforms
wanted to see a change in the way that Americans and people around the world were

Green Business. Natural Capitalism. Eco efficiency. An Eco economy. These are
terms used to describe the desired (and often purely conceptual) transformation of the
private sector, from one of often flagrant resource use and disposal into a sustainable
and ecologically concerned industry.
?The eco efficiency imperative is based on the idea that companies must come to
terms with the new realities of population growth, increased evidence of global
warming, ozone depletion, loss of fertile soils and forests. These new realities will
change the markets (customers attitudes) and lead to tougher government regulation.
This will change the bottom line of each company now and increasingly in the future.

they want to use the products, or enjoy the service that it provides: ?What we want
is transportation from our car, cold beer from the refrigerator, and news or
entertainment from our television? (Hawken 1993). Businesses can use this concept
as an approach to sustainability by selling a service instead of a product.
The service industry answers the call of capitalism in that people are still
purchasing and selling. But the industry deviates from the traditional consumer
driven practices because the consumer only uses the service of a product, but does
not attain ownership of the product. This shift from product consumption to the
selling of service addresses and answers the challenge that human welfare is best
served by improving the quality and flow of desired services delivered, rather than
by merely increasing the total dollar flow?(Hawkins and Lovins 1999). The
environmental benefit of an industrial service economy lies in the fact that it is
?regenerative rather than depletive, one whose products ?work within cradle to
cradle lifecycles rather than cradle to grave cycles?? (Brown).
Services Instead of Products:
The potential environmental benefit of the service economy industrial model needs
to be critically investigated. We will introduce the logic behind the concept and offer
economic arguments for and against it, go over the legal issues of leasing and lending,
and then critically look at two companies which are trying to make the selling of

Foie Gras Research Paper
For the general population, cooking comes naturally. At least that is what they
think. In reality, cooking is not simply following directions. Some recipes are
extremely precise in how they are made, such as Foie Gras. Connoisseurs have no
hesitation in preferring goose foie gras, which they say has more finesse and
delicacy (Strang para. 11). The French dish Foie Grasis one of the most difficult
dishes any chef can make.
Overview
Foie gras is a famous French delicacy. Usually, foie gras is goose liver, but chefs use
the livers of ducks as well. When making foie gras, there is a specific way to prepare
it. Gourmet foods are characterized by high quality or exotic ingredients and

First, one must rid the liver of all veins, nerves, membranes, or discolorations.
These parts are edible, but it is removed anyway because it is deemed unattractive
and it may affect what the flavor is supposed to be. While cleaning, it is also
crucial that you keep the lobes intact as much as possible. Keeping the lobes
together will ensure the foie gras turns out correctly. It is also recommended to
perform this step at room temperature, because it gives the foie gras the right
texture of soft clay. If the foie gras is in the refrigerator, the chef needs to remove
the foie gras from the refrigerator and leave it in its package for one and a half to
three hours to allow it to warm up. To increase the temperature in a shorter amount
of time, a chef can remove the foie gras from the package, rinse it, and immerse it
into a hot water bath of 95 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately one hour. After all
is said and done, you should be left with two flattened lobes of liver that are largely
intact, a few small scraps of liver that have broken off, and the membranes and
veins. Discard the membranes and veins [because they are not necessary] (Ginor
93). Once the liver is ridded of all its flaws, what is left is a beautiful French
The Myths of Vietnam Essay

war was winnable, but the press, micromanaging civilian game theorists in the

the war was unwise and unwinnable no matter what strategy was employed or how
much firepower was used. . . Both of these versions of the war and the antiwar

While the controversy over the war has often been reduced to simplistic pro war or
anti war arguments as illustrated in the opening quotation, a more nuanced reading
of post war literature shows many more areas of controversy. All of these
controversies cross over from hawks to doves and back again. Much of the post war
controversy over Vietnam can be summarized in four myths .
The first myth is that the micormanaging civilians in Washington lost an otherwise
winnable conflict. A second myth deals with the degree to which the radical,
countercultural anti war movement forced President Nixon to end the war. A third is
the Rambo myth which claims that American prisoners of war were kept in captivity
in Southeast Asia after the cessation of American military involvement and may still
have been imprisoned into the 1990s. And lastly, we will examine the myth that the
US government would never knowingly harm its soldiers.
These four myths have been examined in numerous books published since the end of

Non-commissioned Officer and Integrity
According to dictionary.com, integrity is the adherence to moral and ethical
principles; soundness of moral character; honesty. According to the Army Values, the
definition of integrity is to do what s right, legally and morally. It continues to say
that integrity is a quality you develop by adhering to moral principles and that it
requires that you do and say nothing that deceives others. Integrityis something that is
instilled in us in the beginning of basic training. As we grow in our military career,
we learn that all Army values, including integrity still apply during off duty hours
and when not in uniform. We are Soldiers always; twenty four hours a day, seven
days a week. Integrity is not solely based upon the actions of an... Show more content

Leaders will most likely micromanage Soldiers who lack integrity because of their
lack of trust in their ability to accomplish the mission.
As a Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) in the Army, I am charged with the
responsibilities of enforcing the Army Values, all standards and policies placed by
my leaders and ensuring that I am setting the right example for all Soldiers,
whether in my command or not, to emulate. Integrity becomes a major factor in
my ability to do the things I am charged with. I will not compromise my integrity
nor my moral courage. This line of the NCO Creed speaks great volumes. If my
Soldiers do not trust that I will always try to do the right thing, they won t either.
Since I have been in the military, I have always heard that all Soldiers are a direct
reflection of their leadership. Therefore, if I as their leader lack integrity, my
Soldiers will most likely lack it as well. If my Soldiers don t trust me, they will not
communicate their problems and issues with me. In this, I have already failed my
Soldiers; I can t assist with a problem/issue I am unaware of. Any problem not
addressed and corrected will only grow to become a much larger problem. When
Soldiers are faced with problems of any sort, whether it be personal, financial,
marital, etc. it hinders the Soldier from doing their tasks to the best of their ability. In
addition to my Soldiers trusting me, my Chain of Command must
Robotic Surgeries Using The Da Vinci System And...
Introduction
The purpose of this investigation is to look at robotic surgeries using the Da Vinci
System and laparoscopic surgeries to see, which one is better for a hospital to
purchase based on cost effectiveness. These two styles of surgery have their own
strengths and weaknesses, and the style that is better will be decided based upon
variables, such as types of surgeries it can be used for, cost, etc. The field of
medicine has advanced significantly in the past two decades. This is because of the
innovation that has taken place with computers, making them smaller and faster.
Computers are now placed in almost all devices to help to make them more stable
and safer to use. The idea of laparoscopic surgery cannot be traced back to a ... Show

Originally there were two robotic systems, one was the Zeus System and the other
was the Da Vinci System. The Da Vinci system quickly overtook the Zeus system,
and the company that developed the Zeus system is now under control Intuitive
Surgical Systems. (Fischer, 2012) The Da Vinci System has advanced since its
birth, and is more prominent today. This robot has gone through many redesigns to
keep up with the changing field of medicine. The Da Vinci robot is able to perform
surgeries with the help of a surgeon guiding the robot. This makes surgery easier,
efficient, and recovery time is decreased. The robot has revolutionized how
surgeries now take place, because they are less intrusive and help patients have a
faster recovery time; however, these robots are very expensive for hospitals and
the cost to have a surgery using one of these robots differs from one hospital to
another. These robots are the future of medicine, and soon the robot will be able to
perform all types of surgeries with the help of a surgeon. Currently the Da Vinci
System can be used to perform a laparoscopic cholecystectomy, prostatectomy,
colectomy, hernia repair, pulmonary lobectomy, cardiac surgeries, gastric bypass, and
hysterectomy. These are a significantly greater amount of procedures that can be
performed, in comparison to laparoscopy. The Da Vinci system was an idea that was
first developed by the Stanford Research Institute in 1980. After that almost 19 years
were spent developing
Gender Pay Gap for Women Athletes Essay
Traditionally men have dominated the world of sports however in recent year s
women s sports have become popular and with their new found popularity, women s
sports have evolved into marketable leagues of their own. Although women s sports
took a huge leap forward, women players still don t receive the same financial
compensation for playing the same sports in the same arenas as their male
counterparts. In Purse Snatching by Donna Lopiano, she points out sexism may have
a huge effect on this financial discrepancy between women and men athletes.
Analyzing sports economics may point to a different reason why women are
receiving such a compensation disparity. Women sports have come a long way, since
the days when women were only allowed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is the most successful woman in the history of American open wheel racing,
being the only woman to win in the IndyCar Series as well as holding the highest
finish by a woman at the Indianapolis 500 of 3rd place; she currently competes in
the NASCAR Nationwide Series. With all the success and financial gains women
have reached in sports, Women are still underpaid when compared to male
athletes. Lopiano complains that there s too much of a salaries gap between man
and women playing the same sports. The right to play has been established.
However, the issue that has been confronted is the barrier to being treated equally
when it comes to money (Lopiano 1). Most people will say women s tennis
matches are more exciting than men s matches; men s victory purses are still
considerably higher than women s victory purses. Top women tennis players
earned 59 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts. The average
total purse was $63,031,000.00 for top men players and $41,000,000.00 for top
women players (Daniel Frankl 2). In soccer, the Women s World Cup soccer team
was promised $12,500 if they won compared to the $300,000 male players were to
receive. The payout for women players was increased to $50,000 because fans
protested the unfair payout gap between the male and female players (Lopiano 1); it
s still 1/6 the payout
What Happened during the Suez Crisis
4. In what ways can the Suez Crisis be seen as a conflict between nationalism and
imperialism?
The Suez Crisis was an incident that first commenced on the 29th of October, 1956,
in which Israeli military forces entered the Sinai Peninsular and attacked Egyptian
positions, driving them back. By the next day, Israeli forces had reached the Suez
Canal, after taking a majority of the Sinai Peninsular. (Best, Hanhimaki, Maiolo
Schulze, 2008, p.432). Britain and France then both issued an ultimatum, for both
Israeli and Egyptian forces to withdraw from the Suez Canal, citing its safety from
the violence of war as extremely important. After Gamal Abder Nasser, Egypts
President at the time, rejected the ultimatum, on the 30th ... Show more content on

These events, which focused on Egypt attempting to free itself from colonial
influence, as well as giving rise to nationalistic pride in the country, inadvertently
resulted in hostility, distrust and suspicion towards them, mostly by France and
Britain (Kyle, 2011, p.115).
Meanwhile, the British and the French were colonial powers which prior to the
start of the Second World War, had empires which were large and expansive. They
had colonies in the Carribean, in Africa, as well as in Asia. Whilst both countries
came out of the war as victors, they had suffered embarrassing early defeats to
Japan and Germany respectively, which was a knock to colonial prestige (Nairn,
2003, p.3). The post war scenario was one in which colonies like Indochina and
India rose up to demand independence and the right for self determination from
their previous rulers. It was clear to many in this time period that the traditional
system of empire was finished, and with it the power of previous colonial rulers
(Hyam, 2006, p.239). Britain and France, not surprisingly, were unwilling to let this
happen. When Nasser nationalised the Suez Canal, they saw this as a threat to their
already diminishing empire, as not only would it lead inevitably to the loss one by
one of all our interests and assets in the Middle East (Hyam, 2006, p.227), it would
also lead to an increase in distance between their

For example, if River Island were to expand their business, this would be a threat to
Topshop and would force them to expand further or change their ideas.
Consumers
Consumers have the ability to change the companies verdicts and ideas, as the
customers are the vital aspect to sales. Topshop have to continuously research the
customers desires and progress their products to best suit their needs throughout the
future. Topshops organisation have to monitor five different key markets to adapt
their products and services for the consumers. Topshop have to study: Consumer
markets, resellers, corporate markets, administration markets and worldwide markets.
As the consumers needs and wants are changing endlessly, the demand for Topshops
research and knowledge have to be an on going process.
Suppliers
Topshops performance is evidently heavily impacted by the actions of the suppliers,
whether this is a strength or weakness for the company. The organisation has to
repeatedly monitor the actions of the suppliers, thus will enable them to be prepared
for any surprises coming their way. Topshops suppliers have an effect on their
actions as, for example, if the supplier delivers a reduced facility to the company, the
delivery to the stores would be increased and the product quality could be decreased.
Topshop have to ensure a strong relationship bond with the suppliers to enable a
successful and more trustworthy service in which the company have.
Panera Bread Case Study
Panera Bread Case Study
1. SWOT Analysis
Strengths
Panera is a company with many strengths. Many of their strengths stem from their
positive interactions with their customers. Panera s first strength is their high level of
customer loyalty and satisfaction. They ranked in the highest categories in both
compared to their competitors. This is a distinctive competency that they hold,
something that they do better than their rivals. Resulting from Panera s high
customer satisfaction is their next strength, positive word of mouth. The main focus
of Panera s marketing tactics relies on this word of mouth and it is something that
they have consistently achieved. Panera also holds a strength in their diversified
menu. The menu is very large and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opportunities
Panera has many opportunities that they can exploit to increase their profits and
market share in the quick casual restaurant industry. Panera needs to continue
expanding on their catering segment which has shown to be a profitable expansion of
the business. Panera also needs to expand into the untapped metropolitan markets
identified in Exhibit 3, and has an opportunity for continued expansion within their
current locations to reduce population per location numbers to become more
comparable with their rivals (Subway, McDonald s, Starbucks, Applebee s, etc.).
Another opportunity that Panera might be able to capitalize on is some kind of joint
venture with other companies to become the supplier of their high quality bread, such
as higher end gourmet restaurants that are not in direct competition with Panera.
Finally Panera has an opportunity to expand their location services to include Online
Pre ordering, to reduce wait times in line, and home delivery options.
Threats
Finally Panera faces some external threats to their company. First, rising gas prices
threaten to increase their costs due to the high level of daily transportation needed for
their fresh dough deliveries. Next, a bad/uncertain economy threats Panera.
Consumers may find themselves seeing more value in cheaper fast food options.
Another threat is the extremely high level of competition in the restaurant
Victim Of Identity Theft
It s not as hard as we might think to become a victim of identity theft, When we are
not aware of how many ways people can obtain our personal information it can be
quit easy to make mistakes and become a victim. We might be putting our selves at
risk with out being aware with things we do daily, such as interactions we have
online, phone conversations or simply throwing away a piece on mail.
In todays world we do many things over the internet and phone. We communicate
with people, shop and even pay our bills. This makes us easy targets for identity theft.
If we are not careful we can make minor mistakes that can cause us to become
victims. Many thieves pretend to be companies and ask you for your personal
information; It is very important
Donna Dubinsky and Apple Computer, Inc.
Donna Dubinsky and Apple Computer, Inc.
As companies today strive for success in the market place, it is the efficiency of the
top management in the company, which usually determines whether or not they are
able to achieve their goals. Many of these goals and values incorporate concepts
surrounding quality products and services, innovation, team spirit, and efficient
management, just to name a few. However, many times a disconnect in one or more
of these areas can cause communication barriers, leading to various organizational
conflicts and problems. In the case of Donna Dubinsky and Apple Computer, Inc. a
sudden unexpected change has contributed to such organizational conflict and a

Fourth, it is quite clear that Apple II and Macintosh Divisions were having a power
struggle over importance within the company. There was obvious tension between
the Apple II Division, which felt its contributions to the firm was undervalued, and
the Macintosh Division, whose general manager, Jobs, saw it as the technological
vanguard within Apple. We see this conflict between the divisions as detrimental to
the growth of the company.
Lastly, it seems that Dubinsky was unable to handle the problem in the correct
manner. She had numerous reasons to believe that her current approach for
distribution was working fine and Jobs lacked a strong reason to completely
change the approach. She believed that the company was necessarily acting as a
financer for the dealers, most of whom were not very strong financially. If this
process is changed, it could be catastrophic for the dealers. The problem with
Dubinsky was the fact that she was not able to sell her ideas to the top
management. She believed, very simplistically, that she was supposed to handle her
own job, and no one else should meddle in her realm of responsibilities. That was
not the correct approach. She needed to justify her actions to her superiors and
should not have felt let down if asked to explain her position. She also seemed to be
quite inflexible in her approach. She had dismissed Jobs approach without analyzing
the possible merits.

Night Movie And Book Comparison Essay
The Holocaust during World War two is a significant part of history. During the
Holocaust, many Jews and other groups of people were tortured and exterminated.
The book Night by Elie Wiesel and the movie Schindler s List are both placed in a
setting during the Holocaust. The book Night explains the horrors of a young boy s
(Eliezer) experience as a jew during the Holocaust. The film Schindler s List is about
a man who does his best to save Jews from being placed in concentration camps by
hiring them to work for his business. These Jews that Schindler saves become known
as Schindlerjuden. The Schindlerjuden and Eliezer s experiences that are portrayed
throughout the movie and book are similar because they all did their best to do what

A German soldier said to Schindler, This is very cruel Oskar. You re giving them
hope. The German soldier says that because Oskar is treating the Jews better than
the soldiers do, he is giving them false hope. The Schindlerjuden, because of
Schindler, had a chance of being saved from execution by the soldiers. In the film,
Oskar says, You should be preparing for the Sabbath. shouldn t you? I ve got some
wine in my office. Come. When Oskar says this to one of the Jewish people, he
gives them hope of returning their life back to normal. He gives them hope that
one day they could enjoy their life again and not be fearful of being captured by
German soldiers and then executed. This is a major difference from the book
because in the book, Eliezer eventually gives up all his hope and belief in himself
and religion. When Eliezer is explaining what he witnesses in the concentration
camps he says, Never shall I forget these moments which murdered my God and my
soul and turned my dreams to dust. This quote shows that Eliezer has given up
faith in his God to save him and no longer believes that his dreams of a better life
will ever come true. Another example of Eliezer losing faith in his God is when he
says, Blessed be God s name? Why, but why would I bless Him?Every fiber in me
rebelled. Because He caused thousands of children to burn in His

Difference Everyone has studied history throughout their educational years. They
talked about the rights men had and what the rights women didn t have. Now you
would think that everyone is paid equally, well that s not true. The U.S. Women s
Soccer team has been fighting for equal pay to their male counter parts since the
beginning of the year 2016. They have made videos and had many of interviews
about their fight. The way to fix this problem is to continue to fight to have equal

in international soccer competitions at the highest level. The team is one of the
most successful in international women s soccer teams by winning three World

The Hawaiian Monk Seal (Neomonachus schauinslandi)
It is estimated that monk seals have been living in the Hawaiian island chain for 14
15 million years. It is believed that they reached the Hawaiian archipelago through
the Central American Seaway, which closed approximately 3 million years ago.
They are considered by many to be a living fossil due to the primitive nature of the
species. Both remaining species of monk seal are in imminent danger of going
extinct. While the Hawaiian monk seal population numbers approximately 1,100
individuals, the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) is fairing even more

Due to misinformation, some believe that the monk seal s primary diet is
commercial fish, and competes with local fishers by eating its weight in fish in a
single day this is patently untrue, as no large mammal would be able to consume
that much food in a single day. Some believe that the seals were brought in by the
federal government and are not actually endemic to Hawaii. While it s true that the
main population of monk seals have existed in the Northwest Hawaiian islands
(NWHI), there is archaeological evidence from before the 19th century that the
seals coexisted with humans in the MHI (Watson et al). Since they are also a
relatively rare species, their cultural prevalence has not been as strong as some
species (i.e., sea turtles). The use of historical Hawaiian newspapers, as well as
research into Hawaiian etymology, as well as archaeological and anthropological
investigations can help add to our knowledge base (Watson et al). NOAA s Pacific

much to dispel these myths by providing informational websites to the
How Did Sears Transformed America
Sears Transformed America. It Deserves to Die With dignity
Sears which was the largest retailer in U.S more than 50 years ago, lost $748
million in the last quarter of 2016 from falling sales. The article explains that the
reason behind the severe financial loss came back to bad decision that sears made
after world war II.
Sears began in 1886 as a watch company, founded by Richard W. Sears. The article
explains that Sears was a successful retailor the same as Wal Mart during 1890 till
1930s. The Sears catalog could be found in every home in America. In early 1900s,
Sears was famous for its mail order delivery. In 1925, Sears had no physical stores in
the United States. The country was changing and many people were now moving to
city centers. Accordingly, new chain retailors began to start popularity. Sears joined
the market by opening their own retail locations. Sears experienced great success. At
the end of 1929, it had 300 stores in U.S. This strategy puts sears as one of the most

  • 1. College Essay Music Crafting an essay on the topic of "College Essay Music" can be both challenging and rewarding. The intricacies lie not only in presenting a coherent and compelling narrative but also in effectively conveying the profound impact that music has had on one's college journey. The difficulty arises from the subjective nature of music; it's a deeply personal and emotive experience, and translating those feelings into words requires a delicate balance. The challenge is to express the essence of one's musical journey, encapsulating the transformative power of melodies and rhythms, and their influence on personal growth. Moreover, there's the task of weaving together a narrative that not only reflects one's passion for music but also aligns seamlessly with the context of a college essay. It necessitates the exploration of how musical experiences have shaped perspectives, fostered creativity, and perhaps even influenced academic pursuits. Choosing the right tone and striking a balance between introspection and showcasing one's personality further complicates the writing process. It's about more than just recounting musical encounters; it's about revealing a depth of character, resilience, and adaptability that resonates with the values of the college in question. On the other hand, the essay offers a unique opportunity for self-expression and differentiation. Through this medium, an individual can stand out amidst a sea of applicants by providing insights into their unique identity and the role music has played in shaping their aspirations. In conclusion, while the task of writing a college essay on the topic of music poses its challenges, it is also an avenue to showcase one's individuality and passion. The difficulty lies in striking the right chords of introspection, personal growth, and alignment with the values of the college. Successfully navigating this challenge can result in a powerful and memorable essay that sets an applicant apart. If you find yourself in need of assistance with similar essays or any other writing tasks, resources like HelpWriting.net offer professional help and guidance to navigate the complexities of crafting compelling narratives. • 2. Canada Goose Case Analysis Essay Current situation Canada Goose has experienced steady organic growth as a niche brand, selling their product through independently owned stores. By June 2008 it was selling product in 28 different countries across North America and Europe plus two authorized online retailers. Now it has a significant opportunity to further cement itself as a market leader by placing its product with a national chain. Initially, Canada Goose considered offers from two national chain retailers. One offer came from a Canadian chain called Asmuns Place. Another offer came from Levene s Menswear. Table 1 provides a high level overview and compares these two offers. Table 1. Brief offer comparisons. |StoreFeature |Est. |locations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, the Canada Goose brand faces a threat from the increased number of fake products by counterfeiters. Secondly, there is a rising concern from independent stores that national chain stores would discount Canada Goose products causing their sales to drop. And thirdly, Lisa Freedman from Asmuns Place made a last minute offer for exclusive distribution of Canada Goose female and menswear through their store chain. This offer restricts Canada Goose s flexibility in terms of choosing a distribution partner, but simplifies the distribution process. Recommendations Pursue both initial opportunities with the women s closing product line for Asmuns Place and with the men s product line for Levene s Menswear. This will result in an increase in the market share in Canada by 10%. It will provide the ability to bring newer products to market, and not restrict the distribution of products to a single national chain store. Canada Goose should define the conditions under which Asmuns Place or any other retail chain will feature its products in store advertisements. It also needs to assure its original distribution partners that they will be able to maintain their existing brand prestige and pricing throughout all their stores in Canada. Canada Goose should expand their distribution of its product to Eastern Europe starting with Russia since it is a country with severe winter conditions. This will assure Canada Goose growth without the risk of saturating the
  • 3. Ferdinand, Isabella, One King Ferdinand And Isabella Frank Colletta Mr. Hoffman Global 1 R 12/09/17 One King, one Queen, otherwise known as Ferdinand and Isabella. Ferdinand and Isabella were cousins. Later on in 1469 they became husband and wife. Isabella became the quartermaster and financier (isabellaqueenofspain.wordpress.com), while Ferdinand was the leader of the army. Together they expanded and ruled the Spanish Empire. (spainthenandnow.com). Isabella was born on April 27, 1451. She was born in a city of Madrigal and raised Catholic. Her mother s name was also Isabella. Her mother was the Princess of Portugal. King John II, of Castile, was her father. Isabella never really knew her father as he died when she was only four years old. Isabella was well educated and from a very young age was taught she could achieve great things. When King John II died, he left the Kingdom of Castile to Isabella s step brother Henry. (Bucklin). Later when Isabella s brother died, she had to fight to become ruler of Castile against her Niece Juana who tried to take over the throne. Ferdinand would help her in the war to succeed her step brother and take over as ruler (Azcona). Isabella s cousin, also known as her husband, Ferdinand, was born in 1451. His father was King John II of Aragon and his mom was Juana EnrГquez of Castile. They were both of Castilian origin. Unlike Isabella, he had a father figure and would succeed his father as King of Aragon. From his father he learned integrity, courage and reserve. Ferdinand was raised by his parents to become a king and a devout Catholic. (ferdinandandisabella.weebly.com) He became known as Ferdinand the Catholic (Azcona). In 1469 Ferdinand and Isabella were married. The marriage was really an arrangement for purposes of taking control of Spain. Their union would bring about accomplishments that would go down in history. The first main accomplishment was that they unified Spain. Their marriage unified the regions of Castile and Aragon. Before Ferdinand and Isabella took over, Spain was separated and confused. (ferdinandandisabella.weebly.com) The couple would share equal ruling power. As time went on, their combined forces would make Spain into a strong world power. (history.com).
  • 4. No Child Left Behind Essay No Child Left Behind As students in a Structure Philosophy class, one of the main components has been to introduce and familiarize us with the No Child Left Behind Act. President Bush passed this legislation on January 8, 2002. The NCLB Act was designed to ensure each and every student the right to a fair education, to give parents more options in their child s education, and to guarantee all teachers are highly qualified. By highly qualified, the act means teachers must have at least a bachelor s degree, have full state certification or licensure, and have demonstrated competence in their subject areas (US Dept. of Education). One of these benefits includes the choices that are given to parents. In schools who fail to comply with state standards for two consecutive years, parents will then have the choice to remove their children from these schools and send them to a higher performing school in their same district (Choices for Parents). Students who decide to do so are provided with transportation to and from school using funds from the district (Choices for Parents). By providing transportation for kids to receive a higher quality education, we are helping to ensure each child the best education possible. Making the Grade discussed the financial problems that are brought upon through the NCLB act. It is true this act does require a lot of money to be spent which is not provided to schools by the state, however, many people tend to overlook all of the benefits. One example given in this article is the Jordan School District in Salt Lake, Utah. After calculating a bare bones sketch of the new equipment, programs, personnel, etc. which would be needed under the new act, the district figured it alone would need approximately $59 million to meet the standards of the act (Salt Lake Tribune). It seems somewhat ridiculous and hard to believe this much money would be needed to provide for one county alone. Although this is a large chunk of money, I believe people need to look at

Utopia is an imaginary place for some characteristics that actually cannot be achieved for. But still many people had tried to create a utopia for their earnest will to live in a best society. Now day people s situation, which can be said as abject and hopeless, had made them to dream of a wonderland that cannot exist. Brook Farm, Kibbutz, and WaldenTwo are some examples for the created utopian society. They all have some incompleteness, because there would be many irony factors to create a real utopia, but they can be said as some relatively complete utopian societies. Also there were planned system for a whole lifetime for the members, which had eventually planned an organized society. However, the other two societies did not had this organized system. Brook Farm s founder had first founded Brook Farm based on Transcendentalism, but then he suddenly changed to Fourierism. This sudden change had confused the members and the change was not able to cover the society s biggest problem of lack of income. The lack of income over the society can truly prove that the system there was not complete and it was not well planned. Also in Kibbutz, the leadership of government had suppressed the innovation. This community did not have the ability to elevate the standard of living. They were not able to adapt to the change and improve the educational system. The Kibbutz is a so called has been society. The failure of other two societies and the organized system of Walden Two has made it the best

There are different ways through which a performance of a system can be assessed (order fill rate, production condition, accurate documentation among the most important), and the measure used by ALP seems to have some deficiencies in assessing the real impact of the operations undergone by the company and the final customer satisfaction. In fact can be said that such a measure doesn t take in to consideration returned items, and considered the logistic process concluded in the moment in which the freight leaves the stocking point, in this way lacking an overall view of the process that can be seen as an old view of the logistic system. If customer service is defined as the entire process of filling customer s order [...] handling the possible return of the goods the current measurement system adopted by ALP is leaving out all the post transaction elements which are vital to establish a good relationship with the customer and have to be planned for in advance. This is also one of the reasons why the service level is so strongly affected by stock availability. Focusing on the end user side could give a more realistic picture of the

Essay on Death and Dying in the Somali Culture Culturally competent cares in the medical field can make a huge difference in the satisfaction and the healing of patients who are guests in the facilities that we will be at. In central Minnesota we have the privilege of having many different cultures in a small area. With many people immigrating here from their homeland it is important, as health care professionals, to have an understanding of the many different beliefs and traditions that we may come across in our personal and professional lives. That is mostly why death is not resisted but accepted as a part of life in the Islamic faith. This attitude toward death is a bit different than the thinking of a majority of the individuals in the area. Many fear death and do not want to accept that life will eventually end, even with the promise of meeting their savior once they pass. Depending on the field that the nurse works in, interacting with a dying individual may or may not happen. If a person is taking care of a dying individual it is important to know some basic etiquette so that the person or their family will not be offended by any actions of the staff. It is customary to address the family of the dying person instead of directly telling the person that their time is almost done, though it is ok to tell the patient the seriousness of their illness. (Children s) the family then can inform the person in their own way. It would be ideal for the person to be able to pass in their own home but that is not always possible. When a person of the Islamic faith is in a facility when death is imminent, there are some considerations that can be taken to help the make it an easier time on everyone involved. Making room for the family and friends of the dying person for prayer would be greatly appreciated, as it is greatly

We may harm our career and also the organization s future (Anonymous, 1995). As an advice, we shall never expose private and confidential information, besides preventing from contradicting or agreeing any hearsays (Anonymous, 1995). However, Selinger (2008) argues this point of view by postulating that we need to find out our reputation and the things people talk on us. The colleagues will involve in gossips or words of mouth even though we do not, thus the hearsay will probably turn to misperceptions that will harm us (Selinger, 2008). A Brief Study On Kentucky Fried Chicken A Brief Study on Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Franchise Submitted by: Divas Sagar Shakya United States University: MGT 511 August 16, 2015 Gary Letchinger History Kentucky Fried Chicken, popularly known as KFC, was founded by Harland Sanders. Starting from his roadside restaurant selling fried chicken in roadside restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky, to expanding his restaurant and naming it Sanders Court and Cafe in 1937,the first franchise of this chain opened in Utah in 1952 where he franchised his recipe to Pete Harman who was well know restaurant operator. The name KFC was quoted by a sign painter, Don Anderson, hired by Harman, creating a distinct image of restaurant showing Southern hospitality in Utah. Before reaching to present state of this company, KFC has been traded many times. In 1964, Sanders sold the company to John Y. Brown Jr. and Jack C. Massey with the agreement including life time salary for him along with his appointment as company s quality controller and trademark. Later in July 1971, KFC was sold again to a company named Heublein, a packaged food and drink corporation. Heublein was bought by R.J. FROM:Thompson Rivers Consulting LLP CC:Mr. David Olsen DATE:19 October 2012 SUBJECT: ANALYSIS OF THE WORKBOOK PROCESS As a leading pioneer in outdoor retailing and a company at the forefront of the movement for environmental sustainability, we write this letter in response to your request to evaluate your current Workbook Process and appraise the advantages as well as the drawbacks to the system. We are not in favour of the current Workbook Process for reasons that we will list for you. We feel that a company with such a reputation as Patagonia, Inc., needs to adopt a less sophisticated but progressive system. MAIN FINDINGS With the research we carried out it was very clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * Large proportion of employees refused to engage in the Process because they found it tedious. * The plan was not accepted by all levels of management. * The Workbook Process focuses mainly on planning in advance for the longer term rather than on a day by day basis. * The Workbook Process had difficulty in judging environment, quality and distribution objectives, which are crucial success factors for Patagonia, Inc. * The Workbook Process is very complex and time consuming. The level of planning and the enormous amount of meetings needed to discuss company plans leaves very little time for constructive work to be done. * The Process could be limiting in the sense that it does not promote innovations; if anything it encourages people to just stick to a set plan and nothing else. * The profit sharing plan that was introduced was not based on merit; it was just allocated in equal percentages of the base salary. On the contrary, the workbook process also has some benefits. Although, the concerns outweigh the benefits, it is for your benefit and to give you a better perspective of the Process. BENEFITS OF THE WORKBOOK PROCESS * The Workbook Process has been significantly embraced amongst the employees at Patagonia, Inc. * A significant amount of the employees feel that the Process is worthwhile and that it has given everyone an opportunity to bond; and also optimized better solutions for the company. *

Overall, the abstract provided more information than necessary and may, therefore, overwhelm readers. The incident relates to breastfeeding practices on the ward and is classed as critical because it triggered an instinctual response in me which made me feel it was not right or helpful. My response and feelings at the time were not grounded in theoretical knowledge but rather an instinctual feeling. As a result of this instinctual feeling, the incident was explored. This exploration opened up a flood gate of information regarding what could be learned from this incident and ways to improve practice. What was learnt from this incident will be discussed with the use of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ellen, Harry and her husband went home that day with enough supply line equipment to last two weeks. I was confused as to how a supply line provided Ellen and Harry with breastfeeding independence. It was not until I spoke to the Antenatal educator and a casual midwife did I realise why I had uneasy feelings about what we had done to (not for) Ellen. The antenatal educator highlighted to me that the postnatal ward is not baby friendly and not to participate in the breastfeeding practices they promote. She encouraged me to allow extended skin to skin time and use a hands off approach. A casual midwife further validated and labelled my bad feelings when she mentioned that she has never seen so many mothers with breastfeeding troubles then at our hospital and if we were a baby friendly hospital we would not be able to practice the way that we do. She also stated that in all her years as a midwife in the Northern territory she had not seen a baby that couldn t suck. These two women verbalised what I could not, and made me realise that we had done the wrong thing and that there is a better way to assist women to breastfeed then constant hurried intervention. What follows is a critical reflection and analysis on what could have been done better in regards to this incident and in the future for women who experience

These are terms used to describe the desired (and often purely conceptual) transformation of the private sector, from one of often flagrant resource use and disposal into a sustainable and ecologically concerned industry. ?The eco efficiency imperative is based on the idea that companies must come to terms with the new realities of population growth, increased evidence of global warming, ozone depletion, loss of fertile soils and forests. These new realities will change the markets (customers attitudes) and lead to tougher government regulation. This will change the bottom line of each company now and increasingly in the future. (Hawken 1993). Businesses can use this concept as an approach to sustainability by selling a service instead of a product. The service industry answers the call of capitalism in that people are still purchasing and selling. But the industry deviates from the traditional consumer driven practices because the consumer only uses the service of a product, but does not attain ownership of the product. This shift from product consumption to the selling of service addresses and answers the challenge that human welfare is best served by improving the quality and flow of desired services delivered, rather than by merely increasing the total dollar flow?(Hawkins and Lovins 1999). The environmental benefit of an industrial service economy lies in the fact that it is ?regenerative rather than depletive, one whose products ?work within cradle to cradle lifecycles rather than cradle to grave cycles?? Some recipes are extremely precise in how they are made, such as Foie Gras. Connoisseurs have no hesitation in preferring goose foie gras, which they say has more finesse and delicacy (Strang para. 11). The French dish Foie Grasis one of the most difficult dishes any chef can make. Overview Foie gras is a famous French delicacy. First, one must rid the liver of all veins, nerves, membranes, or discolorations. These parts are edible, but it is removed anyway because it is deemed unattractive and it may affect what the flavor is supposed to be. While cleaning, it is also crucial that you keep the lobes intact as much as possible. Keeping the lobes together will ensure the foie gras turns out correctly. It is also recommended to perform this step at room temperature, because it gives the foie gras the right texture of soft clay. If the foie gras is in the refrigerator, the chef needs to remove the foie gras from the refrigerator and leave it in its package for one and a half to three hours to allow it to warm up. To increase the temperature in a shorter amount of time, a chef can remove the foie gras from the package, rinse it, and immerse it into a hot water bath of 95 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately one hour. After all is said and done, you should be left with two flattened lobes of liver that are largely intact, a few small scraps of liver that have broken off, and the membranes and veins. Discard the membranes and veins [because they are not necessary] (Ginor 93). Once the liver is ridded of all its flaws, what is left is a beautiful French

The doves version, contrarily, remains that the war was unwise and unwinnable no matter what strategy was employed or how much firepower was used. . . While the controversy over the war has often been reduced to simplistic pro war or anti war arguments as illustrated in the opening quotation, a more nuanced reading of post war literature shows many more areas of controversy. All of these controversies cross over from hawks to doves and back again. Much of the post war controversy over Vietnam can be summarized in four myths . The first myth is that the micormanaging civilians in Washington lost an otherwise winnable conflict. A second myth deals with the degree to which the radical, countercultural anti war movement forced President Nixon to end the war. A third is the Rambo myth which claims that American prisoners of war were kept in captivity in Southeast Asia after the cessation of American military involvement and may still have been imprisoned into the 1990s. The Da Vinci robot is able to perform surgeries with the help of a surgeon guiding the robot. This makes surgery easier, efficient, and recovery time is decreased. The robot has revolutionized how surgeries now take place, because they are less intrusive and help patients have a faster recovery time; however, these robots are very expensive for hospitals and the cost to have a surgery using one of these robots differs from one hospital to another. These robots are the future of medicine, and soon the robot will be able to perform all types of surgeries with the help of a surgeon. Currently the Da Vinci System can be used to perform a laparoscopic cholecystectomy, prostatectomy, colectomy, hernia repair, pulmonary lobectomy, cardiac surgeries, gastric bypass, and hysterectomy. These are a significantly greater amount of procedures that can be performed, in comparison to laparoscopy. By the next day, Israeli forces had reached the Suez Canal, after taking a majority of the Sinai Peninsular. (Best, Hanhimaki, Maiolo Schulze, 2008, p.432). These events, which focused on Egypt attempting to free itself from colonial influence, as well as giving rise to nationalistic pride in the country, inadvertently resulted in hostility, distrust and suspicion towards them, mostly by France and Britain (Kyle, 2011, p.115). Meanwhile, the British and the French were colonial powers which prior to the start of the Second World War, had empires which were large and expansive. They had colonies in the Carribean, in Africa, as well as in Asia. Whilst both countries came out of the war as victors, they had suffered embarrassing early defeats to Japan and Germany respectively, which was a knock to colonial prestige (Nairn, 2003, p.3). The post war scenario was one in which colonies like Indochina and India rose up to demand independence and the right for self determination from their previous rulers. It was clear to many in this time period that the traditional system of empire was finished, and with it the power of previous colonial rulers (Hyam, 2006, p.239). Britain and France, not surprisingly, were unwilling to let this happen. When Nasser nationalised the Suez Canal, they saw this as a threat to their already diminishing empire, as not only would it lead inevitably to the loss one by one of all our interests and assets in the Middle East (Hyam, 2006, p.227), it would also lead to an increase in distance between their
