The Finnish National Gallery has adopted an open access policy to share digital images of its collections online through its own website and Europeana. It began by sharing archival materials in 2012 under Creative Commons licenses. In 2018, it launched sharing over 12,000 high-resolution images from its art collections with a CC0 license on both its website and Europeana. This was the result of collaboration between the Gallery and Europeana to improve access to the collections online. The open access policy aims to make the collections, which belong to the Finnish people, more accessible to wider audiences and to support education, research, and creative reuse. It has been positively received as responding to audience needs and expectations.

Introducing JSR 354 The Money & Currency APIWim van Haaren
Talk at Devoxx Belgium 2016 about JSR 354 The Money & Currenct API by Tritales' co-founders Wim van Haaren and Jeroen Burggraaf.
Monetary values are a key feature of many applications, yet the JDK provides little or no support. The existing java.util.Currency class is strictly a structure used for representing current ISO-4217 currencies, but not associated values or custom currencies. The JDK also provides no support for monetary arithmetic or currency conversion, nor for a standard value type to represent a monetary amount.
Enter JSR 354 – Money and Currency. Started in 2012 and finalized in 2015, the objective of this little known API is to provide a money and currency API for Java, targeted at all users of currencies and monetary amounts, both simple but also expandable. The API provides support for standard ISO-4217 and custom currencies, and a model for monetary amounts and rounding. It will have extension points for adding additional features like currency exchange, financial calculations and formulas.
This session will address the motivation behind the API, some of the use cases that it covers, describe the API, and demonstrate the usage through some examples using the reference implementation.

Archives’ Outreach in the Nordic Countries – a Question About Relevance, Participation and Dialogue
ICARUS-Meeting #17 | Transparency - Accessibility – Dialogue. How a creative archival landscape can effect society

The document discusses how cultural institutions are changing their designs and programming to better serve evolving audiences. Key points include:
- Audiences are more diverse in age, ethnicity, and interests, seeking social and participatory experiences.
- Institutions are focusing more on social engagement, partnerships, interdisciplinary programming, and allowing user-generated content.
- Designs are becoming more transparent, flexible, and comfortable while integrating education spaces, project spaces for artists, and making collections accessible.
This document proposes a PR campaign called "Museum Fever 2013: Explore, Learn, Share!" to attract younger audiences ages 18-34 to public museums in Sofia, Bulgaria. The campaign aims to raise awareness of and participation in the annual "Night of Galleries and Museums" event in May 2013 through social media engagement and special Friday night museum programs. Specific objectives include generating 25% more awareness of the event and museums by May 2013 and increasing yearly museum visits by the target group by 25% by December 2013. Tactics proposed include securing endorsements, designating monthly "Museum Fever Fridays," encouraging social media check-ins and contests using hashtags, and maintaining an active campaign blog and social media

This document discusses how archives and museums are using Instagram to engage new user groups and document contemporary times. It provides statistics on Instagram usage and examples of archives using hashtags. Memory institutions can choose to ignore social photography or use platforms like Instagram to foster relationships and involve users in contributing to the archives. The conclusion advocates that Instagram provides an experimental space and can create new networks between institutions and users.
Welcome and introduction to the 2nd innovation camp in Network of Nordic Public Libraries, 19 September 2011 in Stockholm. 55 participants from the libraries in Oslo, Helsinki, Stockholm, Reykjavik, Akureyri and Aarhus co-create ideas and concept for the future of public libraries in the Nordic Societies
The objectives of the Our Day Out project were to engage local communities through memory workshops with older people's groups, create an online archive of oral histories and memories from a photographic collection of day trippers to New Brighton in the 1960s, and produce a short documentary and series of postcards to share the local memories captured. The project utilized images from the Keith Medley photographic archive donated to Liverpool John Moores University to spark discussions and add context during workshops. The outcomes included an exhibition sharing the community memories captured and demonstrating the potential value of further preserving and digitizing the photographic archive.

This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.

11. Photography isn’t anymore about a single image or
photographic object. It is part of a chain of
registered data.
The digital photography of our time is momentary,
and therefore there is a high risk it never gets to
museum and archives collections.
Another risk is lack of metadata. Few
photographers, whether professional or amateur,
supply their imagefiles with searchable keywords.
