Anger is an emotion that arises in response to perceived wrongs or distressing situations and can motivate finding solutions or expressing negative feelings, but excessive anger can cause problems. A cognitive model of anger views it as triggered by internal or external stimuli that provoke feelings and potentially behavioral responses, with the goal of therapy being to break this anger cycle using strategies like identifying triggers, teaching relaxation, problem-solving, communication and assertiveness skills, self-talk, empathy, and positive affirmation.
