Who am I?
I spent 20+ years developing engineering and
manufacturing software:
1990s: Selling and developing Autodesk apps in Israel
2000s: SmarTeam, Enovia, Dassault… working on PDM/PLM tech
2010-12: Inforbix… developing new approach in cloud search and data analytics
2012-14: Autodesk… joining team working on PLM360 and search technologies
2015: Consulting manufacturing companies at Beyond PLM.

Beyond PLM…
I started to blog in 2008 and didn’t stop…
For the last 6 years I wrote ~1800 blogs about PLM and
related topics - technology, engineering, manufacturing...
It is about 1’000’000 words …and I learned a lot:
What I learned about PLM from six years of daily blogging

Cloud is an outcome of web tech revolution
Consumer IT was on fire during 2000-2010…
It came to enterprise in 2010s.
It came from consumer tech space (not from defense and large corporations)

It is business, not only technology
New business models emerged.

Cloud and Consumerization
Web technologies allowed to some companies to deliver product
nobody seen before. Social networks, cloud file storage, email, e-
commerce. And because of new business models, some of these
products came free.
Consumerization trend influenced the way business workers were
thinking about their corporate and business software.

Enterprise software vendors discovered cloud
PLM wasn’t first to discover a power of the cloud
To name few Salesforce.com and Netsuite are good examples of
enterprise software turned cloud into their strategy.

Who was the first with cloud PLM?
BOM.COM (Arena Solutions) was prioneering “on demand” in 2000
Few vendors (eg. Agile and PTC) provided hosted solutions in 2000s
Autodesk PLM360 changed “cloud PLM ecosystem” in 2012
Most of PLM vendors today have a version of “cloud strategy”

What is the right path to the cloud?
“Cloud” definition is too broad
“How to implement cloud” is a right question
Cloud deployment options:
- Public cloud
- Private hosting
- Hybrid hosting
Application and data management:
- Multi-tenant model
- Single tenant model

What is clear in 2015?
Cloud is not fad
Cloud can remove IT headache and upfront PLM cost
Cloud will be important in the future to manufacturing eco-systems

What is (still) unclear in 2015?
What will be PLM adoption trajectory
Economics of cloud services
How cloud can change PLM implementation paradigm
How “on-premise PLM” will migrate to “cloud PLM”
How companies will go from Excel PLM to “cloud PLM”

Cloud PDM influence
Cloud CAD is a new trending topic
It brings cloud PDM integrated with CAD
How it will change “cloud PLM” adoption trajectory?

What can bend cloud PLM adoption?cloudPLMadoption
time
New implementation paradigm
Low implementation cost
Improved integration
Shift to mobile
