Codes and Conventions
Main Image- Central image to do with the main story in the magazine.
Masthead- Large, mostly covers the width of the magazine and stands
out with a unique font. Sometimes depending on who the central
image is of the masthead might be slightly covered
.
Bar Code-Usually on the front cover of the magazine as there is an advert
on the back.
Sub Heading-(Cover lines) Shows the reader/audience a preview of what is
in the magazine, makes them want to buy and read it.
Price-Can either be large and stand out to show/emphasis to good
deal they are getting when they buy that magazine or its quite small
and the reader doesn't see it automatically. Usually by the bar code
Buzzwords- Makes the reader want to buy that magazine as they no
they wont find it anywhere else except here.
Bold Writing- Words such as Plus are used to jump out to the
audience, make them want to read it.
Colour- A colour scheme is used to suit the genre of the magazine.
Only a few colours are used.
Puffs- Promotes or gives something away to get the audience to
choose that magazine to buy.
Date of Release- Could allow/ give the reader an idea of when the
next issue will be out.
Graphic Features- Graphics added after. For example a box, used to
draw the attention to that area on the page.
Extra images used are around the main image and are also a lot
smaller.
Anchorage Text-A cover line that goes with the central image.
Slogan- Near the title, a positioning statement. Used to draw readers
attention.
