A group of students at Highlands Elementary formed a friendship club called "Club G" in 2011 to help include their classmate Ges at recess and lunch. Through Club G, the students learned empathy, caring, and compassion for one another. The story of Club G is shared in a video that shows how the club benefited both the students and teachers socially and emotionally. The founding members believe that more friendship clubs could make the world a better place by giving students opportunities to develop these qualities. The document encourages schools to start their own friendship clubs with the help of Carmen Farrell and Wendy Holtan from the Social Emotional Empathy Development Society.
