GEMS is a program created by Nancy Ball and Lauren Meek that aims to educate and empower middle school girls about relational aggression through weekly after school sessions. Over the course of two years, girls discuss issues related to relational aggression, learn strategies to deal with it, and participate in activities designed to boost their self-esteem. Research shows relational aggression is harmful and schools should provide education on the topic. Feedback from GEMS participants and their parents suggests the program is successfully helping girls build confidence and improve their relationships.
