This document discusses cloud computing concepts including software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), hardware as a service (HaaS), and virtualization. It outlines the traditional computing stack versus the virtualized cloud computing stack. Some advantages of cloud computing are lower costs, improved performance, unlimited storage, and availability, but there are also security, privacy, and legal issues to consider. Major technology companies are investing billions of dollars in cloud computing research and development.
Orchestrating PaaS and IaaS+ with RightScaleRightScale
The lines between IaaS and PaaS are blurring. Cloud providers are offering dozens of individual IaaS+ services as an alternative to “all-in-one” PaaS options like OpenShift and Cloud Foundry. How do you handle cloud orchestration when you have a blend of IaaS, IaaS+, and PaaS? We’ll show how you can manage them all with a single pane of glass.
Cloud Migration and Portability (with and without Containers)RightScale
Companies are moving more workloads to cloud and many need the flexibility to move some workloads between cloud providers on a one time or ongoing basis. The use of containers is further enabling companies to embrace portability. IT organizations need to understand the considerations, architectures, and tools that are needed to successfully migrate to and between clouds and create portable workloads.

How MSPs Can Be Successful in AWS, Azure, and Google CloudsRightScale
As cloud use explodes, organizations are looking for managed services providers (MSPs) to help them migrate to the cloud and manage cloud use. RightScale will share best practices from 10 years of migrating customers to cloud and delivering managed services. You’ll also learn how one MSP, Flair Data Systems, is leveraging the RightScale Cloud Management Platform to help.
Hybrid Cloud Orchestration: How SuperChoice Does ItRightScale
Automation and orchestration are key to cloud success, especially in a hybrid or multi-cloud environment. Find out how Superchoice, a leading fintech company based in Australia, and Offis, a hybrid cloud services company, are using RightScale CMP to automate the delivery of 200+ applications across AWS, Azure, and VMware.
We used Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud service to dramatically speed-up Pret a Manger’s PeopleSoft implementation. It improved our access requirements, reduced infrastructure costs and gave us access to more powerful servers and greater resilience than we’d otherwise have been able to afford. I’ll walk you through the initial decision, explain how everything was set up and demonstrate the benefits delivered to the project. I’ll also describe other occasions where the flexibility of Amazon EC2 has been invaluable.

With popular poster children such as Netflix and Amazon, using microservices-based architectures seems to be the killer approach to twenty-first-century architecture. This session goes over the benefits, but more so the pitfalls, of using a microservices-based architecture. What impact does it have on your organization, your applications, and dealing with scale and failures, and how do you prevent your landscape from becoming an unmaintainable nightmare?
How to Use RightScale CMP to Manage Cloud: In-Depth DemoRightScale
Enterprises are quickly realizing that a cloud management platform (CMP) is a critical foundation for managing and optimizing cloud use. Whether you are already using one or more clouds or just getting started, RightScale CMP gives you visibility, governance, cost management, automation, and orchestration for resources across all your cloud and virtualized infrastructure. See an in-depth demo of RightScale that shows how.
Are you still using Docker in production? Get over it! Serverless is the NEW future of the Cloud. But since the Cloud is still someone else's computer, that needs to be managed too. And if it is sitting idle, you probably have to pay for it whether you like it or not. No server can be more easily managed than no server. Therefore: meet Serverless, a new paradigm that truly approaches the Pay-as-You-Go philosophy once promised by the Cloud.
This session explores Serverless, its impact on existing architectures, and assesses it's usability for Mobile Back-ends as a Service (MBaaS), Functions-as-a-Service (FaaS) and also for Microservices based architectures hosted in the cloud.

The presentation starts with a blank slate for those who have no idea of what cloud and virtualization world is to gradually building up till handling security issues. If any one wants the soft copy, please ask for it at anupam@blumail.org
Cloud Done Right - PaaS is the Remedy to VM HangoverMohamad Afshar
Virtualized hardware is all the rage in enterprise IT. However, is a purely virtualization-focused, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) approach really the right one for enterprises and government? What’s becoming clear is that virtualization is but one piece of a much bigger strategy for fast, self-service deployment and ultra-efficient operations, referred to as “platform as a service” (PaaS). PaaS leverages a wider set of middleware capabilities to enable application deployment in minutes rather than days and reduces operational costs by up to 90%. This general session will compare and contrast the IaaS and PaaS approaches, discussing architectural and operational considerations for PaaS using examples of best practices. It's a must-attend session for anyone considering building a private cloud.

This presentation explains what serverless is all about, explaining the context from Devs & Ops points of view, and presenting the various ways to achieve serverless (Functions a as Service, BaaS....). It also presents the various competitors on the market and demo one of them, openfaas. Finally, it enlarges the pictures, positionning serverless, combined with Edge computing & IoT, as a valuable triptic cloud vendors are leveraging on top of, to create end-to-end offers.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
