Climate change is one of the greatest threats facing the planet and its negative impacts are disproportionately affecting developing countries and the world's poor. The proportion of environmental poor is projected to increase significantly by 2020 due to climate change impacts like more frequent natural disasters. Developing countries experience over 90% of major natural disasters and deaths from them. Climate change causes greater poverty by threatening the livelihoods of those dependent on natural resources and without the capacity to cope with climate variability and extremes.
