Collaboration and Climate Change To work together, especially in a joint intellectual effort. To cooperate treasonably, as with an enemy occupation force in one's country. Are we working together or co-operating treasonably ?
What is Collaboration ? Collaboration is a recursive process where two or more people or organizations work together in an intersection of common goals — for example, an intellectual endeavor [1] [2] that is creative in nature [3] —by sharing knowledge, learning and building consensus. Most collaboration requires leadership , although the form of leadership can be social within a decentralized and egalitarian group. [4] In particular, teams that work collaboratively can obtain greater resources, recognition and reward when facing competition for finite resources. [5] Collaboration is also present in opposing goals exhibiting the notion of adversarial collaboration, though this is not a common case for using the term.
Virtual Collaboration Spaces Collaboration spaces influence our actions and impact the world around us – the greater the reach, the more profound the impact
Asynchronous vs Synchronous Email, Wikis, Blogs, Facebook, Youtube .... Instant messaging, audio conferencing, video conf, Web conferencing, Virtual 3D worlds
Asynchronous Technologies
Asynchronous Networking and Collaboration Time to prepare “the message” Time to prepare “the response” 24 x 7 access Global reach Limited feedback control Primarily a broadcast medium
Synchronous Technologies (2D)
Synchronous Technologies (3D)
Synchronous Networking and Collaboration Dynamic interaction Faster decision making “ Next best thing” to face to face Better meeting management tools than face to face
Using Technology to Work Together for Climate Change Savings in travel Improved understanding of issues Collective action
Daden Datascape
SHASPA Energy Management
Using Technology to Cooperate Treasonably for Climate Change Increased trade and consumption Incentives to travel Global communications bring disconnect between cause and effect (power without responsibility)
