In ancient Greece, philosophy was considered a "super discipline" that encompassed all other fields of study, including the arts, humanities, and sciences. Over time, many of these disciplines broke away from philosophy and formed their own alliances under the new label of science. Psychology was one of the last disciplines to separate from philosophy to become a science. Today, classical Western philosophy is mainly focused on three branches - metaphysics, methodology, and axiology - which each contain more specific areas of study.
