Q1: Read the passage carefully and answer the questions given below.
The “Snake Temple” at Penang is one of the many
places which tourists make a point of visiting.
The words “Snake Temple” are an attracting force. Most
visitors make I visit to the temple not knowing exactly
what they expect to see. Some feel that it is so called
because of the architecture of the temple. Others feel
that the temple must be teeming with snakes -----
teeming with snakes is correct.
In a certain month of the year a variety of snakes from the surrounding area make their
way to the temple. Some curl themselves up on the bushes grown in pots in the temple.
Some can be seen curled up in corners, while others rest on beams. These snakes, however
strange it may seem, have never harmed anyone. During this period thousands of Chinese
go to the temple to make offerings of eggs to the
snakes and to ask for good health and prosperity.
Baskets of eggs are placed before a shrine and prayers
are said. It is believed that, if any snake makes its way
into a basket, the owner will be showered with good
fortune.
This period of prayers and offerings lasts for a month,
at the end of which a strange thing happens. All but a
few of the snakes leave the temple only to return
again during the nest period of prayers and offerings.
1. Where is the “Snake Temple”?
2. What attracts tourists to the temple?
3. What do some people imagine when they hear the name, “Snake Temple”?
4. What actually is the temple called, “Snake Temple”?
5. Where do the snakes come from?

Q: Read the passage carefully and answer the questions given below.
Theseus was cheerful all through the journey to Crete. The
others almost believed that he would kill the Minotaur.
They reached the island and were taken to see King
Minos. The King saw their white, frightened faces. For a
moment he was sorry for them and he was sorry for their
parents, too. Then he thought of his own dead boy. All
kindness left his heart. His daughter, Ariadne, stood beside
him. She was beautiful girl with a kind, gentle heart. She
saw the boys and girls and she thought of the dark
labyrinth. She thought of the brutal Minotaur and tears
filled her eyes.
King Minos saw Theseus and his eyes shone. “This is the
young prince of Athens!” he said.
Theseus stepped forward. “I am Theseus, son of Aegeus,”
he said. “Great King, please let my escorts sleep in peace in
the palace yard tonight. They are tired after the journey. Let me enter the labyrinth alone.
The other can follow me in the morning.”
“So the Prince is proud!” said Minos. “He wishes to die alone. Very well, Prince Theseus, I will
grant your wish.”
Ariadne was looking at the brave young prince.
Her cheeks were pink and her heart was beating
quickly. Her eyes shone with pure adoration. “I
won’t let him die!” she said to herself. “There must
be a way to save him.”
“Father,” she said aloud, “let me take the Prince to
the labyrinth tonight. He is a king’s son, and I am a
king’s daughter. I am the right person to do it.”
King Minos approved. When it was dark Ariadne
led Theseus to the gates of the labyrinth. When
they reached the gate of the labyrinth she said to
the prince to slay Minotaur and flee with his
companions. Theseus gave her a warm, grateful
smile and said, “My arms are brawny and I hope I shall kill the Minotaur but how I will find
my way out of the labyrinth. Everyone says it cannot be done.”
“It can be done,” murmured Ariadne. She gave him a ball of thin, strong strand that could
be helpful in finding the way out of the labyrinth and save him…………..
