Criminal law is a system that has evolved due to societal needs. This cycle of development begins when laws are enacted at the legislative stage. The laws are then enforced by law enforcement and are later applied by the judiciary. Many a times, laws are determined at the legislative stage but are developed in the courtroom. Both the processes are equally important in the criminal justice system. You may have your own thoughts on which one is more important.

Background
You work as a paralegal in a public defender’s office. In an upcoming presentation to a local legislative committee, the public defender plans to address criminal justice issues, constitutional principles, cultural sensitivity, and diversity awareness to promote social justice goals in local communities. You have been asked to assist the public defender in preparing the presentation. To this end, you will explore processes and issues in three criminal cases, applications for criminology, and relevant critical perspectives toward the goal of building a more just society.
Your Task
The public defender hopes to gain funding to support programs that respond to criminal justice issues and that promote a more just society. Earlier in this course, you had an opportunity to criminology through the works of Messer et al. (2016), Salvatore (2017) and Zoutewelle-Terovan & Skardhamar (2016). These authors consider how criminology may help to explain factors that associate with crime. Recall for example the consideration of life course theory in Messer et al. (2016). To help the public defender with preparation, you have been asked to create a paper between six and eight pages in length. Your description of processes, explanation of issues, and analysis of critical perspectives will provide the foundation for the public defender’s address to the local legislative committee, and thereby promote support for programs and laws that address large societal problems and that promote the social justice principles of equality, solidarity, and human rights to build a more just society.
The public defender has come across three distinct cases that highlight the criminal justice issues that the legislature needs to address. Each case is preceded by a video summary that will comprise a portion of the public defender’s presentation to the legislative committee. To provide context for the public defender’s presentation to the legislative committee, the initial part of your paper should explain issues and describe processes about the following case scenarios:
Case No. 1: Juvenile Justice and Law Enforcement
Case Description (also included in the multimedia content)
Through the process of waiver, the defendant was transferred from the juvenile justice system to the criminal justice system on drug related charges. If convicted, the defendant could receive a prison sentence. The defendant resides in an impoverished community. The public defender seeks funding for community treatment centers that respond to drug issues.

The final project for this course is the creation of a scenario analysis. Federal, state, and local judicial systems each have unique processes and require administration to effectively move cases through the systems. Players from each system interact in the administration of justice; therefore, it is important to understand how the systems work and engage with each other for efficient judicial administration. Understanding how judicial systems work is key for anyone looking to pursue a career within the courts. In this assessment, you will examine and evaluate the roles and processes of the systems, regardless of your position within the systems. Through analyzing a scenario, you will determine proper venue, jurisdiction, and litigation process, as well as make administrative decisions. You will also assume multiple perspectives in order to determine efficient and effective ways to move a case through the judicial process. The project is divided into two milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Three and Five. The final product will be submitted in Module Seven. In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes: Analyze venue and jurisdiction for their implications to different levels of government Illustrate the various roles played in the judicial system for informing the development of effective administration strategies Assess the function of calendars and dockets in the legal system for creating efficiency Evaluate the civil and criminal litigation processes at different levels of government for their ability to efficiently carry out justice Prompt In this assessment, you will analyze and evaluate the following scenario from the perspectives of an attorney and a judge. You will address how this scenario would be handled by the judicial systems by creating a scenario analysis. Based on the scenario, examine how it would be tried within the judicial systems. Scenario Jed, Herman, and Jane live in Washington, D.C. Jed and Jane entered the local bank and took $65,000. Jed and Herman both used shotguns during the robbery, though no one was hurt. Jane drove the getaway vehicle. Two hours later, as they headed toward the Canadian border, they were stopped by the police for speeding and taken into custody. The police determined that Jed and Jane matched the eyewitness descriptions of the robbers. Jane confessed their bank robbery scheme. Jed and Herman denied their involvement. The police only recovered $25,000 in cash, but were unable to determine if the recovered money was taken from the bank. The police determined that Jed was a convicted felon at the time of the armed bank robbery. The local police and FBI were involved in the investigation. RE: Week 1 Discussion
Over the past few decades, the need for computer technology has greatly increased. Users now turn to many forms of "computers" for daily tasks. Therefore, digital crime has also increased. Two factors that I believe have led to the explosive growth of digital crime
1. Identity Theft- Since computers are used for almost everything we do in life, many of us enter too much personal information into these devices. This personal information is now out there for hackers to retrieve and use in the theft of our identity.
2. Credit Card Fraud- An increase of online purchases and bill payment has allowed for credit card information to become more vulnerable to theft and/or fraud.
I believe these are the most common forms of digital crimes because they are the most commonly used by individuals.
Three types of digital crime include:
1. Cyber Stalking- Enforced by the FBI
2. Viruses- Enforced by The Secret Service
3. Piracy- Enforced by the ICE, FBI, and HIS
The federal virus genies in question can improve the overall public response to such computer crimes by identifying target areas for the reported crimes. Individual citizens can also assist in the fight against digital crime as well. To do so, when a crime is committed, the citizen should immediately report all aspects of the known crime to the proper authorities. Additionally, individual citizens can do things to prevent said crimes from occurring, such as; block and report cyber stalkers, install and use trusted anti-virus software and stay away from piracy websites.

Unit Lesson
The general public has an expectation that those people that cannot conform to the
basic rules and law of society be punished for their lack of regard for the law. The
concept of punishment versus reform is one that has been constantly debated for
hundreds of years. In this unit, we discuss the goals of sentencing as they relate to
punishment.
There are seven goals of punishment that you need to understand in this unit. They
are as follows:
revenge,
retribution,
just deserts,
deterrence,
incapacitation,
rehabilitation or reformation, and
restoration.
There are also five sentencing options available to the offender:
fines and other monetary sanctions,
probation,
intermediate sanctions,
incarceration, and
death penalty.
One question we need to ask ourselves is, “do the five sentencing options fit into the
seven goals of punishment?” The death penalty does provide revenge, but does it

People are still committing crimes that justify the use of the death penalty in every

Competing Jurisdictions
In Weeks 2 through 4, you will follow a scenario as a case moves from initial crime through sentencing. This scenario is representative of many real-world cases where multiple jurisdictions are involved. As the case progresses, the relevant laws and various parties (police officers, attorneys, community members, and so on) all affect how the case moves through the criminal justice system. Each week, you will receive new information that may influence how you interpret the case or choose to proceed.
This week, you review the case from the perspective of a
police officer
.
Review
the following scenario:
Earlier today, an individual rushed into the lobby of the local post office and forced his way past several customers to make his way to the retail counter. The individual then produced a firearm and pointed at the postal clerk and demanded all of the money from the clerk. The clerk complied with the individual’s demands, and the individual fled the scene of the crime on foot with the stolen money. The following people witnessed the crime: the postal clerk and two customers (John and Jill). There was no video surveillance inside of the post office, but several stores surrounding the post office were equipped with surveillance systems.
Write
a 2- to 4-page analysis of the scenario in which you address the following:
What are the main roles and functions of the police officer at this stage of the case?
What kinds of local, state, and federal responses can you expect? How and why would each agency be involved?
How do their jurisdictions and responsibilities overlap? How do they communicate and coordinate actions among the agencies?
Who has the ultimate authority to move forward and initiate a criminal case? How is this determined? What are the implications of this choice?
Support
your analysis with a minimum of two references. The course textbook may be one resource. Additional references may include scholarly articles, websites, blogs, podcasts, or other relevant sources.

Crime rates are of great interest to policy makers as well as citizens. After all, who wants to live in an area with a high crime rate? When you calculate crime rates, you are able to compare cities, states, and countries of different sizes. For example, suppose city A has a population of 120,000 and city B has a population of 500,000. The preceding year, city A had 250 incidents of murder and city B had 400. On reading this, you may think that you want to live in city A because it was host to fewer murders. However, when you calculate the murder rates, you will see that the murder rate for city A is 208 per 100,000 citizens and that for city B is 80 per 100,000 citizens, which is much lower.

The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

and the Court System
For more classes visit
www.snaptutorial.com
Criminal law is a system that has evolved due to societal needs. This
cycle of development begins when laws are enacted at the legislative
stage. The laws are then enforced by law enforcement and are later
applied by the judiciary. Many a times, laws are determined at the
legislative stage but are developed in the courtroom. Both the processes
are equally important in the criminal justice system. You may have your
own thoughts on which one is more important.
Through this writing assignment, you will explore the evolution of
criminal laws and their effects on the court system.
Tasks:
Select one of the two options listed for this assignment. Each option
focuses on different aspects. The first one is related to the legislative

Several players interact with each other in the courtroom. Of those
players, we see two profiles often in popular media: criminal defense
lawyers and the prosecution. Both are responsible for taking a case from
its preliminary phases to trial and beyond. Both gather evidence,
interview witnesses, and develop possible arguments for their cases.
Both are responsible for presenting the best outcome, whether they
believe in the reasoning or not. In this assignment, you will have the
experience of developing an argument for a criminal case.
5. Activity Details
Step 1: Identify a criminal case that you feel passionately about. Find an
article related to a criminal case in the Argosy University online library
to use in the summary.
Complete the following tasks.
Write a one-page summary of the case. The summary should include:
The alleged crime that occurred
The elements of the crime
The evidence presented in the case
The possible defenses
Step 2: Write a one-page argument for the defendant as if you were the
defense attorney on the case. In your argument:
Address the jury by introducing yourself and the client named in the
case.
Highlight the strengths of the case by telling the jury your client’s side.
Personalize the case by telling the jury about your client.
Acknowledge the weaknesses that the other side will point out.
Discuss any defenses you may use during the case.
Request an outcome from the jury, which is normally a not-guilty
verdict for the defendant.
Step 3: Write a one-page argument as if you were the prosecutor on the
case. In your argument:
6. Address the jury by introducing yourself and the state you represent.
Highlight the strengths of the case by telling the jury why the defendant
is guilty.
Personalize the case by describing the aftermath of the crime, the
victims, and the harm caused to society because of the crime.
Acknowledge the weaknesses that the other side will point out.
Request an outcome from the jury, which is normally a guilty verdict for
the defendant.
Step 4: Save and submit the assignment.

Case Study

George, Mark, and four other friends have planned to go out drinking for
the evening at several nightclubs about 45 miles from Centervale.
George has offered to drive the group in his Pontiac Bonneville.
7. Although there are not enough seatbelts for everyone, the group piles
into the vehicle and venture out for a night of fun on the town. Several
hours later, after visiting three bars, Mark drives the group to the next
bar because George has had too much to drink. Unfortunately, Mark has
also had too much to drink, which causes him to lose control and crash
the vehicle.
When emergency services arrive on the scene, Mark is not seriously
injured and is able to give details of what he believes happened to have
caused the crash. George is seriously injured and is life-flighted to a
trauma center along with another friend, one friend is deceased, but still
seat belted in the car, and one friend who was thrown from the vehicle,
sustained moderate injuries.
Highway Patrolman Green suspects' alcohol might have played a role in
the crash and asks Mark to perform a series of field sobriety tests. Mark
fails the tests, and is arrested and charged with DWI. Mark awaits his
Initial Appearance in court, while the Highway Patrol Reconstruction
Team reconstructs the crash, calculates the approximate speed of the
vehicle, and determines other pertinent facts.
The Highway Patrol Officers review the case with the District Attorney
before Mark's initial appearance. It is agreed that Mark can be charged
with reckless driving, speeding, four counts of felony assault, and one
count of involuntary manslaughter. Mark's toxicology tests revealed a
blood alcohol level of .21 and further evidence shows he was driving at
75 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
The Judge formally reads the charges, advises Mark of his rights, and
appoints him an attorney during his initial court appearances. Mark posts
bail while he awaits his arraignment. You are working with a Criminal
8. Justice university course. The professor has asked you to create a case
study on this case that will provide her students with a real world
situation that demonstrates the basics of the class. Your case study must:
Identify, define, examine, and discuss the crimes committed in the above
scenario.
Demonstrate your knowledge of the criminal justice process that
occurred in this scenario. Evaluate the beginning and end of the
involvement of the criminal justice system in this scenario. Research
your state's view on deaths related to DUI offenses and the potential that
this crime could be classified as murder. Relate each involvement to the
Court system or Criminal Justice System as a whole.
Propose a possible "next step" for Mark and the case. Compare and
contrast his possible options. What systems of the Criminal Justice
System will be accessed with each option? Consider Mark's rights as a
defendant in this scenario from postarrest through awaiting trial.
Examine the rights of the victims as they related to the criminal justice
process.
If these crimes were committed in a state that has a Grand Jury system,
discuss where in the series of steps the Grand Jury would hear evidence
in this case.

CJA 225 Module 4 Assignment 2 The Trial
Process
9. For more classes visit

Activity Details
As you learned in your reading, there are several stages to a trial process.
Once a crime is reported, the police begin to investigate, collect
evidence, and report evidence to the prosecutor. The involvement of the
police continues from the beginning of a case to its end.
Tasks:
In this assignment, imagine you are an officer at your local police
station. Your supervising officer assigns you to a prestigious unit that
receives special projects, including education development. As your first
project, you are assigned the task of creating and presenting a Microsoft
PowerPoint presentation concerning the trial process to new recruits at
the police academy.
Perform the following tasks:
Step 1: Research and develop a plan for the trial process. Use
information from both the textbook and the Argosy University online
library resources. Refer to the attached terms as a road map and make
sure that the terms pertaining to your state criminal court system are
present in your Microsoft PowerPoint presentation.
Given below is the road map for this assignment.
10. Step 2: Create a 10- to 15-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation
describing the local criminal trial process from the beginning to the end.
Give thought to the difference between the misdemeanor and the felony
processes. In addition, differentiate between the defendant’s choice of
taking a case to a trial or as a plea. Discuss why a defendant may want to
consider a plea instead of continuing with the trial. Explain possible
penalties, sentences, and alternative programs available to the defendant.
Step 3: Include speaker notes to explain the contents of each slide
including more research and information. Direct your speaker notes to
your audience (for example, you may tell recruits that they may have to
testify at the preliminary hearing and inform them what the judge would
consider).
Step 4: After completing the assignment, save the presentation.

State vs. Mark

11. Assignment 1: LASA 2: Your State v. Mark
Mark Davis has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) for
reckless driving, speeding, four counts of felony assault, and one count
of involuntary manslaughter as the result of a crash that occurred on a
night out with his friends. Mark has been out on bail and pleaded not
guilty when he was arraigned. The Judge set a date for Mark's trial and
his defense team has been working to collect information about the
technology used by the Highway Patrol to reconstruct the crash.
District Attorney O'Malley offered Mark a plea bargain, but Mark chose
to take his chances at trial. Mark's attorney, Mr. Chen Long, advised
Mark that accepting the plea offer was completely up to Mark, although
Mr. Long advised against accepting it because the defense planned to
highlight mistakes made by law enforcement during the investigation
that could create reasonable doubt in the minds of the jurors.
The trial begins and during the voir dire of potential jurors, several
individuals are excused because they have previous knowledge of
Mark's case from the media. Two individuals stated that they could not
be impartial because they had loved ones killed in alcohol related
crashes as well. Eventually, two men and ten women were seated in
Mark's trial.
District Attorney O'Malley presented the State's case clearly and
concisely depicting a night on the town full of heavy drinking, which
ultimately resulted in Mark's actions causing the death of one individual
and injuring four others. Highway Patrolman Green explained to the jury
that he immediately suspected alcohol when he arrived on scene because
Mark appeared to be intoxicated when they spoke. Following the Judge
ruling that it was admissible and not prejudicial, Sergeant Rodney
12. Monroe, from the Highway Patrol Reconstruction Team presented their
reconstruction complete with a high-tech computer animated
reenactment of the crash. During the cross examination, Defense
Attorney Long challenged the reconstruction because the Defense Crash
Reconstruction Expert had discovered errors in the mathematical
calculations for vehicle speed. The jury appeared to have liked the
reconstruction very much regardless of the errors highlighted by the
defense.
Mark was convicted of DWI, four counts of felony assault, and one
count of involuntary manslaughter; however, he was acquitted of
reckless driving and speeding. The Jury said they could not convict
Mark of those offenses because of the mistakes made by law
enforcement officers during the investigation.
Because Mark pleads not guilty, but was convicted during trial and had
two prior DWI offenses, he was sentenced to ten years in the State
Prison. Defense Attorney Long immediately notified the court of an
