Citizenship education aims to enable people to take responsibility by teaching knowledge of democratic topics and concepts, developing skills like critical thinking and debate, and fostering values of openness and defending others' views. Web 2.0 has the potential to enhance citizenship education by allowing knowledge and media to be more actively produced and shared by users, coming in frequent chunks from within communities rather than outside sources, and enabling more participatory and collaborative learning.
