 Very good progression rates for students that like languages
 Interested in students studying Spanish, German and French
(2017 had an even spread of the three languages)
 Extensive range of university partners in France, Germany and
Spain
 Third Year – Mandatory Semester Abroad
 Placement – about 40% so far have had some placement element
 Study – some prefer the structure of study

 New Programme offering:
 Bachelor of Arts in Culinary Arts – Chef De Partie Apprenticeship
 Students must be registered as an apprentice, in a SOLAS
approved business
 i.e. Hotel, Restaurant or other catering facility (e.g. hospital).
 Entry Requirements
 A pass in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent examinations, obtaining a minimum grade
O6/H7 in English, and O6/H7 in four other subjects;
Or
 A full QQI FET level 5 Award;

 2 Days in College per week for Year 1 & Year 2 (+ 1 week Block)
 1 Day in College per week for Year 3 & Year 4 (+ 1 week Block)

15. SLCS Dept. Programme Developments
 The recently revised Early Childhood Education and Care programme (CR 620) is
currently in Year 2 of its existence & already the feedback from the sector is hugely
positive with the new 2 X 12-Week Placement model replacing the older 6-8 Week
blocks.
 A new 4-Year Montessori Education programme is in development following recent
feedback during the Programmatic Review Process.
 The longstanding BBus Recreation & Leisure Management programme (CR032) is
currently under review with the development of a new Level 8 Sport & Exercise
Management programme designed to run concurrently to the existing programme but
with a stronger emphasis on the Placement element (i.e. full semester)

 New Programme offering in development:
 BA (Hons) in Photography and Video
 4 Years
 Strong focus on developing professional photographers who also
have video skills and some of whom will specialise in video
 There will be strong links with international partners, such as the
Louis Lumiere College in Paris, where this photograph was taken,
a couple of weeks ago
 There will be a full semester of work experience in the third year
