Library Web Presence: Engaging the Audience From widgets to interactive subject guides, libraries are exploring ways to improve library web services. Penn State staff show how library widgets (small, portable versions of library tools) can remove barriers and enable users to add widgets to Facebook, iGoogle, or any place they want them.

Research JumpStart: A Fully ‘Widgetized’ Interface

Designed with the novice, undergraduate library user in mind, offers help via instant
messaging and easy access to the popular research sources: the CAT (library
catalog), ProQuest databases, and library research guides. With the help of
Widgetbox and some simple code development, each component on the page is
available as a widget allowing users to take their favorite pieces of the page and
place them on other websites such as iGoogle, Facebook, NetVibes and more.
