This document reflects on using QR codes and Voki in the classroom. The author had never used a QR code or knew what they were before this class. QR codes provide a quick way to access websites or information by scanning a digital image with a phone, saving time over typing long URLs. They can also help keep students focused on lessons rather than wandering to inappropriate websites. Voki are speaking avatars that can be used to demonstrate lessons in an engaging way. For example, in health class a Voki could address important topics in a fun manner to reduce student awkwardness. Voki are also useful for language learning since they can speak in up to 25 languages. Both QR codes and Voki are novel tools that can engage students

QRs and Voki Reflection
This assignment was strange and different for me. I had never used a QR before or
knew exactly what they actually were before diving into this subject in class. I also did
not know what a Voki was either. It was different because it showed a different way to
engage students using tools that I never would have thought to use myself. A QR is a
digital image that is scanned using a QR reader (you can download one onto any smart
phone). Once this is read it will take you right to a certain website or anything you want
it to when you create one. QR’s can really help in the classroom by cutting down time by
eliminating long address’ you have to type into a URL, you can just create one for the
whole class to use and it takes all of them straight there. This can also cut down on
children running into non kid friendly websites that can happen if not careful. This also
allows more time to focus on the lesson or gain extra time to help struggling students.
QR codes are so relatively easy to make, you can make one for just about anything.
Math & Science Pillar, of 21st Century Education can really benefit from QR’s. Instead
of looking everywhere for certain formulas, you as a teacher could create QR’s so the
students could easily find the formulas just by scanning the QR codes.
Using a Voki, or a speaking avatar, was really strange but cool. I could really see kids
liking this animated character that brings fun into the classroom. You could really use
Voki’s to show, describe, or demonstrate a lesson. In a Health class, it would be great to
use in a beginning Sex Education course to slowly but in a fun way address important
issues in Sex Ed with students using Voki’s where the students wont feel as awkward.
For this Pillar of 21st Century, Language, would be the biggest benefit. You can change
your Voki’s language in up to 25 languages. This would greatly help benefit students to

2. learn another language, or even pick up certain phrases in a language that they might
not have been able to learn otherwise. Both these tools are great fun ways to engage
students in the classroom.
