Christian environmental ethics are based on principles found in Scripture. These principles include that God took delight in creating a variety of species and declared them good. God also rejoices in and pays attention to even insignificant parts of creation. Humans have a special role as stewards of creation, meant to serve and care for it rather than destroy it. Scripture encourages preserving species and enjoying creation's benefits while ensuring all of creation can do the same, and commands caring for creation so it can regenerate itself with God's sustaining involvement.
