This document discusses God's revelation to humanity through various means. It begins by explaining that God introduced Himself to initiate a relationship with humanity. God reveals Himself through both natural means like creation which shows His power and design, and supernatural means like prophets and scripture. The fullest revelation is through Jesus Christ, who reveals God and humanity. God continues to speak through the Church. God's revelation is contained in both Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, which the Church teaches. In response, we affirm our faith in God's revelations through the Apostles' Creed.
In order to rightly divide the word of truth, we must understand the context of God's word, which to at least some extent, is impacted by history and timing. This Bible study delves into the dispensations of time, revealing God's relationship with mankind in each.

John 3:1-5. A New Life In Christ. In the new life we have been born again. In the new life we are a new creation. In the new life we crucify the flesh with its passions and desires. In the new life we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. In the new life we are renewed by the Holy Spirit. In the new life we are dead to sin but alive to God. In the new life we are washed from our sins. in the new life we put to death the old man and put on the new man. In the new life we died and our life is hidden with Christ in God. In the new life we were brought back from death in sin.
The word ‘grace’ is not always used in the same sense as in the bible. If you look up grace in the dictionary you will see that there are multiple meanings. Divine grace in particular is often misunderstood & misinterpreted by people. This presentation will clarify exactly what God’s grace is and how it is pertinent to our salvation.
Tit 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Laying the Foundations of Spiritual Formation
Chapter 1.
Introducing Spiritual Formation
Jonathan Morrow
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.
—1 John 3:2 NASB
The Bible alone, and the Bible in its entirety, is the Word of God written and is therefore inerrant in the autographs. God is a Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each an uncreated person, one in essence, equal in power and glory.
—Doctrinal Statement, Evangelical Theological Society
Spiritual formation1 has had many traditional and denominational expressions throughout church history.2 In recent years resurgence in thinking about spiritual formation has swept over the evangelical landscape. Our purpose here is to set forth a distinctively evangelical view of spiritual formation. Our journey will begin as we (1) examine the necessary preconditions for doing distinctively evangelical spiritual formation. We will then (2) examine spiritual formation in light of the gospel and (3) explore in panorama the theological implications for spiritual formation. We will conclude our journey, equipped with theological clarity and content, as we (4) show how God spiritually forms believers into the image of his Son, Jesus Christ.
Preconditions for Doing Evangelical Spiritual Formation
Certain preconditions for doing distinctively evangelical spiritual formation will frame our approach. These are the indispensable rails on which the following discussion runs. One essential distinctive of an evangelical approach to spiritual formation is a high view of Scripture.3 All else derives from this unique source of God's special revelation to humanity. Before examining God’s special revelation in the Bible, it should be noted that evangelicals also affirm God’s general revelation through what he has made. God has not left himself without witness since all of creation is stamped with the divine fingerprint.4
God has spoken. But what precisely does that mean? Evangelicals confess that God has spoken truly5 and authoritatively6 through his Word (special revelation). David Clark in his comprehensive work, To Know and Love God, offers a crisp summary of the evangelical view of Scripture.
[The Bible] alone is the unique, written revelation of God, a permanent, meaningful, and authoritative self-expression by God of his nature and will. The Holy Spirits act of superintendence— inspiration—was decisive in the writing of Scripture and is the reason the Bible possesses unique status as revelation. Through inspiration, the Holy Spirit aided those who wrote the Bible. The Spirit then guided the church in identifying inspired works and collecting them as the canon. This supervision renders Scripture uniquely authoritative for Christian believers. Of course, the Spirit also preserved the Bible and now guides in interpreting the Bible, .
In "Looking at the Big Picture" we look at what life is all about according to the Bible by looking at Jesus, the gospel, the church and the mission of the church. This teaching is the introduction to the gospel series "Growing Deep in the Gospel".
This is a study of Jesus as the light of all mankind. This was the case in His pre-incarnate state in eternity. He was already the life and light of the world.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. FRIENDSHIP BEGINS WITH ONE
“HELLO”
It is impossible to love or to have a
relationship with someone who is not
known.
Introducing one’s self to another in
basic in initiating friendship. This
introduction should be sustained by
constant communication through
which the unfolding of self takes place.
3. God, in his desire to enter into a loving
relationship with humanity, took the
initiative of introducing himself to us,
and of communicating with us both
through natural and supernatural
means.
GOD’S DISCLOSURE OF HIMSELF IS CALLED:
“Revelation is God’s personal loving communication to us of who
He is and His plan to save us all in His love. It is God’s reaching
out to us in friendship, so we get to know and love Him.”
CFC no.101
4. THE LIMITATION OF HUMAN REASON:
The fact that natural reason can prove God’s
existence is in itself revelation.
But while human reason can tell us that God
exists, it cannot tell us WHO GOD IS.
In order for us to know who God is, we
have to pay attention to the different
avenues by which God communicates
with us.

6. “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament
proclaims His handiwork” Psalm 19:1
The beauty of nature awakens our religious
sense. Realizing that we cannot be
responsible for the grandeur of creation,
we end up concluding: there must be a
God who is the cause of everything.
CREATION IS THE FIRST ACT OF
GOD’S REVELATION.
“Ever since the creation of the world, his eternal power and divine
nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen
through the things he has made.”
Romans 1:19-20
7. For history to be revelatory, we have to learn
looking at history with the eyes of faith.
We have to realize that God is not merely
watching us from a distance. Rather, he is
actively involved in the story of our lives, both as
individuals and as a people.
Even the most secular historical events, when
seen with faith, become evidences of God’s
divine plan gradually unfolding through time.
8. Historians enable us to remember significant events.
The PROPHETS of God, both ancient and modern, help
us to see historical events with God’s own eyes.
While prophets may tell future events, prediction of the
future is just incidental to prophecy. The main task of a
prophet is to convey the message of God by interpreting
the SIGNS OF THE TIMES.
The meaning of historical events as revealed by God
through the prophets are at times unpalatable. Often,
prophets speak the uncomfortable truth, hence they are
often persecuted.
9. “In times past God spoke in varied ways to our fathers
through the prophets; in this, the final age, He has spoken
to us through His Son” Hebrews 1:1-2
“No one has ever seen God, but the only Son, who is the same
as God, made Him known…” John 1: 18
JESUS CHRIST IS THE FULLNESS OF
GOD’S REVELATION
By becoming man like us, he revealed to us everything we
need to know about God, using a language that we can
understand and relate to.
10. “As goal, Jesus is ‘the key, the center and the purpose of the
whole of man’s history’ (GS 10), in whose image we all are
to be conformed (cf. Rom 8:29).”
“But Christ is not only the goal of God’s revelation, He is also its
content, the Revealed One. In himself, Jesus reveals both God and
ourselves. ‘Christ, the new Adam, in the very revelation of the mystery
of the Father and of His love, fully reveals man to himself and brings to
light his most high calling’ (GS 22).”
“Christ is revealer through his part in creation, through his
becoming man, through his hidden and public life, and especially
through his passion, death and resurrection. After his resurrection,
the Risen Christ continues his revelation by sending us his Holy
Spirit, the Spirit of truth (cf. DV 4).”
CFC nos. 77-79
11. “God speaks to us in and through the life of the
church. God speaks to us through the lives of
holy people who have evidently taken Jesus’
message to heart and serve as an example to all.
As we participate in the life of the church, we
participate in revelation. We believe that Jesus is
still speaking and acting through the church, that
is through us and our participation in the life of the
community. We believe that we as a church,
continue Jesus’ preaching and mission to the
world.”
Fr. Ian Knox
THEOLOGY FOR TEACHERS,p.88
12. GOD’S REVELATION IS CONTAINED IN:
God, the one and only source of revelation, so willed that his revelation be
transmitted to us through two modes: Sacred Scriptures and Sacred Tradition,
two phases of the same revelation forming one sacred deposit of the word of
God entrusted to the Church
13. OUR RESPONSE TO REVELATION IS

THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH TEACHES
BECAUSE YOU HAVE REVEALED THEM
WHO NEVER DECEIVE,
NOR CAN BE DECEIVED.
AMEN.
Many of the truths revealed by God to us are beyond the power of our
human comprehension. Yet because we believe that God, who is all good
"cannot deceive nor be deceived” we say “AMEN” even to things we do not
fully understand.
