Chlamydia is typically asymptomatic but can cause vaginal discharge, burning urination, and abdominal pain in women if left untreated. In men, it can cause penile discharge, burning urination, and testicular pain and swelling. It is diagnosed through lab tests of vaginal swabs, urine samples, and occasionally rectal swabs. The bacteria was first discovered in 1907 and causes a global disease treated with antibiotics.
