2. Who is a Child?
The term “child” comes from the Latin which means ” the one
who does not speak “. For the Roman, this term designates
the child from its birth, up to the age of 7 years.
What is rights?
 A right is a ‘justified clam or entitlement’.
 It is a justified claim on someone, or on some
institution, for something which one is owed.
 “Rights are those condition of social life
without which no man can seek, in general to be
himself at his best”.

3. Basic Children rights in Islam
 Life and Survival
The right to life means that each child must be able to live his or her own
life. Children have the right not to be killed. They have the right to survive and
to grow up in proper conditions.
 Good Name
The right of ‘Good Name’ means that is the responsibility of he decide
name for children with in seven days.
 Protection
The right to protection is the right to live in a secure and protective
environment which preserves the child’s well-being. Each child has the right
to be protected from all forms of mistreatment, discrimination, and exploitation.

 Right to Healthy
The right to health means that children must be protected against illness. They
must be allowed to grow and become healthy adults. This contributes to
developing an active society.
 Right to Freedom
The right to liberty is the child’s right to express him or herself, to have opinions,
to have access to information, and to participate in decisions which affect his or
her life. Children also have the right to religious freedom.
 Right to Education
The right to education allows each child to receive instruction, to enjoy a social
life, and to build his or her own future. This right is essential for economic, social
and cultural development.

 UNICEF has been supporting the rights of children in Pakistan since 1948
 UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend
their rights.
 Providing basic services, including education, health, nutrition, protection, water,
sanitation, and hygiene.
 SAHIL
 Sahil has been working since 1996 on child protection especially against
child sexual abuse.
 Sahil head office in ISLAMABAD and four provincial offices, one each in
Abbottabad(Khyber PakhtunKha), Jaffarabad(Baluchistan), Lahore(Punjab),
Sukkur(Sindh).
