June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

CHEERLEADING BEGINNING CHANTS
• Chant: A chant is usually very short, and you repeat it 3 or more times
• Cheer: A cheer is longer than a chant is done only 1 time through
Now, let us break down the types of cheers and chants:
• Offence: An “offense” chant is one that talks about scoring and is used in
a sporting event. You use this type of chant when your team has the ball.
“We’ve got the ball, we’ve got the ball, let’s score 6!”
• Defense: A “defense” chant is one that talks about taking the ball away
from the other team. You use this chant when your team does not have
the ball.
“T A K E take that ball away.”
• Spirit / General Chant: The spirit or general chant is one you can use

ELEMENTS OF DANCE
• The Elements of Dance are the foundational concepts and vocabularies
that help students develop movement skills and understand dance as an
artistic practice.
• B - Body
• A - Action
• S - Space
• T - Time
• E - Energy

ELEMENTS OF DANCE
• BODY:
• In dance, the body is the mobile figure or shape, felt
by the dancer and seen by others.
• The body is sometimes relatively still and sometimes
changing as the dancer moves in place or travels
through the dance area.
• Dancers may emphasize specific parts of their body
in a dance phrase or use their whole body all at once.

ELEMENTS OF DANCE
• ACTION:
• Is any human movement included in the act of
dancing— it can include dance steps, facial
movements, partner lifts, gestures, and even
everyday movements such as walking.
• Dance is made up of streams of movement and
pauses, so action refers not only to steps and
sequences, but also to pauses and moments of
relative stillness.

ELEMENTS OF DANCE
• SPACE:
• Dancers interact with space in myriad ways.
• They may stay in one place or they may travel from one
place to another. They may alter the direction, level, size,
and pathways of their movements.
• Dancers may focus their movement and attention outwardly
to the space or inwardly, into themselves.
• The line of travel may be quite direct towards one or more
points in space or indefinite and meandering.
• Spatial relationships between dancers or between dancers
and objects are the basis for design concepts such as beside,
in front of, over, through, around, near or far.

ELEMENTS OF DANCE
• TIME:
• The keyword for the element of time is “when”? Human movement is naturally
rhythmic in a broad sense that we alternate activity and rest.
• Time may also be organized in other ways including
• Clock time: The dance is based on units of seconds, minutes, and/or hours. For
example, a certain section of a dance may be assigned a time such as 30 seconds
into which all the choreographed movements must fit. A performance in a public
setting may be set up to repeat continuously between 12:00 noon and 1:00 P.M.
• Sensed time: Dancers pick up on each other's timing such as gradually increasing
from a walking tempo to a running tempo by cueing off each other rather than a
music score. Another example happens when dancers hold a group shape then
spontaneously move out of it based on the group's organic impulse
• Event-sequence: An internal or external event signals a change such as repeating
a traveling phrase over and over until everyone arrives at a corner of the stage.
You also see this at sports events when a touchdown triggers a dance cheer

ELEMENTS OF DANCE
• ENERGY:
• is about how the movement happens.
• Choices about energy include variations in movement flow and the use of force,
tension, and weight. An arm gesture might be free flowing or easily stopped, and
it may be powerful or gentle, tight or loose, heavy or light
15

• Contemporary is another word for “modern” or “current”. If
something is contemporary, it belongs to the here and now, the
current.
• Contemporary dance is, therefore, always changing with the times
and developing, and takes its inspiration from many different
modern forms of dance. It can be danced to almost any style of
music, and it can be mixed up with other dance forms such as
street dance, ballet, jazz dance, African and Asian dances, and
other forms of exercise such as martial arts and yoga

ORIGIN OF MOVEMENT
• According to Martha Graham's philosophy,
• movement is generated from three places: the action of
contraction and release, the pelvis, and the emotional inner self.
The contraction, or strong pulling back and curving of the torso,
and the release of this movement by returning to a straight torso
are symbolic of the dichotomies in life. It is the contrast between
desire and duty, between fear and courage, between weakness
and strength.
