This document discusses characterization in literature. There are two types of characterization: direct characterization, where the author directly states traits of the character, and indirect characterization, where the reader infers traits based on a character's actions or words. Direct characterization examples explicitly describe physical attributes or thoughts, while indirect characterization relies on implications from what is shown rather than told.
