Detective Kip Jennings
Detective Kip Jennings is the local chief of police in the rural area of Worcester. Jennings is a young
mature adult is who naïve to serious police business is. Jennings is the son of the most notorious
police chief in the whole of Worcester who was murdered and Jennings suffers a great deal of grief
and pressure to hold on to his father’s honour. Jennings is signed the case and has to unpick the
crime and put pieces of information together but struggles with the case as pieces of information don’t
fit together.
Mrs Jane Mayfair
Mrs Jane Mayfair is the wife to Mr Mike Mayfair, this woman is collected and has committed sins in
the past that are unfamiliar with her neighbours and her husband which is to be released throughout
the novel which leads Jane to be a prime suspect in the investigation as she was the first to witness
the corpse of Maria Sherwood lifeless on the floor of her kitchen. Jennings is unconvinced of her alibi
and for this reason Mr Mayfair leaves her and her friends and neighbours turn against her which leads
her to commit a separate crime.
Mr Mike Mayfair
Mr Mike Mayfair is the husband to Jane Mayfair; this man is calm, peaceful and indulged in his
business which leads him to be an unexpected suspect to the crime although his curiosity of the crime
leads him to be in situations where he is no longer the calm and peaceful man that his neighbours
once knew. Mike Mayfair’s life is turned upside down from this crime and might not ever be returned
to normal since this tragic incident but is Mike Mayfair innocent in this whole situation?
Connor Sherwood
Connor Sherwood was the husband to Maria Sherwood, this man appears to be generous and
sincere to his broken heart of his deceased wife. Sherwood soon becomes a prime suspect in this
investigation as Jennings discovers that this man used to beat and abuse his wife which shocks his
friends and neighbours and becomes a prime suspect in the case. Although his alibi is almost
bulletproof, detective Jennings still can’t fit the pieces of the puzzle together as there are multiple
pieces missing.
