Rizal spent part of his childhood in Binan, Laguna where he continued his early education. He lodged with his aunt and studied under teachers like Maestro Justiano Aquino Cruz, learning subjects like Latin, Spanish and painting. Rizal excelled as a student in Binan. However, his mother Doña Teodora was falsely accused and imprisoned in Santa Cruz. This injustice motivated Rizal in his later writings. He eventually returned to Calamba in 1870, furthering his studies abroad.
